  2. Oh, I forgot to mention he HAARP weather add-on.
  3. I think Locheed should use the topography for an observatory.
  4. I really haven't been commenting around on this little hot button issue, because I haven't read too much into the details it, and because it's conflictory to my libertarian philosophies that you shouldn't force people to do what they want as long as they aren't harming or stealing from anyone, so religious freedom vs forcing people to treat everyone equally, particularly (it seems) in regards to service and business.... I just don't know. However, one thing I do know, I don't support the MAC by affiliation of my school being in it to TAKE STANDS ON POLITICAL ISSUES. Focus on your job of running an athletic conference and butt the hell out of socio-political issues. I just realized the irony that I am a libertarian and turning around and feeling like the MAC should be censored from chiming in on politics, but I really just don't feel like that's what they are there for. An organization is comprised of people, yes, but just because you think you are right doesn't mean you need to take positions. Were you for the Vietnam war in 68 but against it in 72. This things may seem important in their own time, but the clarity that you think you have at that time doesn't make your voice relevant, particularly when you represent lots of people, some of whom may have a different vantage point.
  5. That's really nice to hear about this team. With how we all get so caught up with what we can see on the court, it's not so obvious what it's all about behind the scenes, and it's good to know that things are positive and supportive. We all know how much pressure can occur in this world in the realm of results and measure, but what could be more important than growth and experience?

  7. "Why would I go out in the cold and snow and sit on bleachers to watch 'our' team lose, when I can sit in my dorm, with friends, or with my iPad and play HayFarm or TriviaMeth and have a few beverages? " - Millenial
  8. Shoulda got one 5 years ago. Rob Ianello, what would you say it is that you do here?
  9. ooooooooo! A smoked stout? I wants
  10. Are we in the National Championship? Is Akron in the playoffs? A bowl game? Until we get there and have competing interests in post season play, I don't have a problem with wishing OSU luck. I'm not rooting for Oregon.
  11. Lets not forget that if your arena is full (at 4500) and people can't find tickets, you can raise prices due to demand, and increase revenue. The idea of higher ticket prices may not be popular, but as a business, it's what you want. It has an added effect of creating a mystique (which is what is quantified by demand) when there are repeated sell-outs, people hear about it, and start to wonder what they are missing out on, and desire to get in on the action.... with an accumulative snowball effect on demand. Higher ticket prices when you have chairbacks and respectable accomodations? I could see it happening. More seats on bleachers has not worked. .... then again, I was a proponent of the idea that if you built a nice football stadium, on campus, people would come, and that there would be a gathering change in perception about the brand. However, I'm not convinced that that couldn't have happened if it weren't for what I recently read described as the 'Ianello pigskin holocaust'
  12. 'Rob Ianello's pigskin holocaust' I laughed so hard I forgot how to breathe!
  13. If Bowden, after 9 seasons, and won 66% of his games and been to 8 bowl games but not many wins in the post-season, then people would start becoming complacent with the lack of wins or advancing into BCS bowls and playoffs. People are never happy with what they got after they've grown to take it for granted. My brother went to Can't. He has asked me (with exaspiration) how the hell we manage to keep our coach. Let's not be Can't, or most other mid-major fans, and let's not take what we have for granted.
  14. Agree to disagree I suppose. I don't know KD. But I don't think I'm going out on a limb in saying that he wants to succeed a great deal more than anyone could ever pressure him into succeeding. If I'm a man with his experience in his position, I would resent heavy-handed talk and threats more than I would ever be motivated by it. It's pure negativity. It's simply now how greatness occurs.
  15. I disagree with the idea that you can motivate professional adults with 'turning up the heat'. I have no doubt in my mind that Dambrot feels plenty of pressure already. To say that he needs outside pressure to make him more successful is to imply that he is coasting or doesn't care. If he doesn't care enough, then he needs to go. If he does care, then it's completely disrespectful to him as a professional to apply 'heat'. Rediculous. Sorry, I completely disagree. This isn't a recruit in boot camp. He is an experienced coach who has turned down other offers to stay here and seek success. Get off your high horse. thanks.

  17. I felt almost exactly the same way after the Can't game. I bit my tongue and didn't even bother to come here and post. There is one thing I would posit for consideration. It's a philosophical/psychological paradox. After you have given up all vested emotional interest in something, you will subsequently be liberated from the regret and negative feedback that caused you to want to give up that interest, and you will be free to take (albiet casual) interest again without pain. Take a break. Take a long one. Enjoy your new hobby.
  18. I'm almost done with sports
  19. In the vane of the regional politics, after an administrative consolidation occurs with local univerisites, what is to stop politicians in Cleveland (for example) from saying "hay, this isn't an Akron instutition, and it doesn't belong to Can't, or Youngstown, or Cleveland, but let's move the offices and the decision making to Cleveland because.... blah blah blah we're great because we think we are great and we have national sports teams and TV studios blah blah blah. OR, as a coup d'etat for Columbus politicians to eliminate regional leadership and put it under the OSU umbrella. In fact, how do we know that this isn't a part of a greater long term plan to do just that? Who was that congressman from a few years ago who wanted to strip all the local universities of their Identity because they were harming Ohio State's dominance in the state? Did these guys just go clandestine and create a secret 5 phase plan to neuter Akron and Can't. We thumped the idea when it was a huge shit sandwich, so they decided to regroup and to break it off into bite sized chunks and not inform anyone of the bites to come. If there is one football team, where do they play? Infocision one week, and Dix stadium the next? How does that cut down on operational expenses. I submit that it makes things worse. One team, multiple locations? How is that good. The obvious answer is that you play in one place. Someone loses their venue. This smells
  20. Went to all the home games last year and saw most of the others that were televised. Haven't witnessed a single game this year. Impossible to make a specific assessment. Just wanted to chime in and combo break all the drastic responses from any vane. Maybe beating Pitt swung all of our hopes out of proportion. Let's just enjoy some football when we can.
  21. LOL, I meant that your 31-0 prediction was the final word.

  23. Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women. -Conan
  24. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ebola-virus-outbreak/Can't-state-relatives-ebola-nurse-told-stay-away-n226611 This woman flew back to Dallas with a low grade fever. If I sat on that plane near this woman and found this out that she was traveling in this condition, I'd be extremely irate.
  25. Correct. The media in this region is HQed and propagated from Cleveland. Akron has a population almost twice as large as Green Bay (who fills a pro football stadium). But when it comes to televeision news coverage, it's Cleveland Cleveland Cleveland OSU Cleveland. Same with radio coverage, unless you pick out a few of the smaller local stations, and as pointed out above, they still feature other city's sports. I know we blame the media for everything these days, but I still think this is a valid point. Akron's sports teams are removed from the consciouslness of the populous by omission.
