  1. Akron. The new Can't
  2. So, the daughter of a university employee who already has her classes paid for is mad because she wont be given free cash anymore (presumably for other expenses). I can understand that. No one likes to go backwards. Having things and losing them sux, even if you never earned them in the first place. Gifts that don't keep on giving present an unfortunate emotional hazard. Personally, I think this is right. Use scholarship money toward tuition and academic expenses. If you don't need it for that, let it go to others who do need it for that. I'm sorry about your off-campus rent. Go get a grant or loan (or god forbid, a job like I did)
  3. He is right, about the greed bringing them down, but not for the reasons I read in the article. There are more advertising breaks during football games now, then when I was growing up, and they are longer. I don't watch NFL much anymore. To me, it;s like watching a marathon session of commercials with football sprinkled in between. I exxagerate, but that;s how it feels to me, and it;s not going to change. I have changed. I'm not interested in that.
  4. I still believe it will happen some day. I wont look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm satisfied with the consistently winning seasons, and would rather be rooting for this team than anyone else in the MAC. The post season success, when it happens, will be bonus. I saw Kieth in October and got to shake his hand and wish him luck for the season. If I saw him today I'd shake his hand and thank him for this season. I wouldn't want anyone else where he is.
  5. guys, we rode a dragon and we always will the fire cannot be extinguished sometimes we just have to wait while the dragon rests
  6. I'm surprised there isn't more hack-a-zip, at least by bench players.
  7. It was too close to change. I wouldn't have reversed it and you know who I'm rooting for
  8. Happens here lots too. Losing is not easy, when it happens, and it's harder when it's in the tourney. I thought for sure Ndour's foot was over the 3-point line and jumped out of my seat when all three points were awarded. Then after the time out the ref's huddled to look at it and when it showed on the screen I almost covered my brow in shame for being so sure it was some sort of injustice. It wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought. In actuality, his toes did roll over the line before the ball left his fingers, but there's no way the point should have been taken away.
  9. I'll make an admission that might get me flamed; I have grown less concerned with how far the team will get in conference playoffs and more anxious about whether they will keep the streak of 20+ win seasons alive. Is this vanity over substance? The good news is, success in the former will result in the latter.
  10. It wouldn't change mine because I tend to fall (personally) on the side who thinks he's probably not a really bad kid. He got his morals twisted and thought he could take a shortcut in life, and if the program really believed he was turned fully around and had the right life perspectives, so would I. But that doesn't change the problem I brought up. The constant shadow and negative coverage it would cause. Any commentary or reporting on his felony conviction would, at best, be a passing side note; IE: "while he was admitted back to the team, it is not on scholarship..." Do you think this reduces the damage?
  11. The fact that it's an embarassment to let him back doesn't change just because you personally don't think it should be. The media will ride this train every chance it can. The only national coverage the Zips BB team would get barring a run in the tourney would be negative coverage for re-admitting a felon (if that's what he is. I don't really know. I assume that's what's on his record by the posts I've seen). What difference that makes in decision making is left up to the decision makers. But it's not going to be easy just because some people don't think it should cast a big shadow on the program. Wishing it wasn't that way doesn't change it.
  12. Drug trafficking is a felony, right? It's really hard to imagine him coming back. There would be an extremely controversial and negative shadow over the program if he did, despite any positive feel-good reporting on him changing his life for the better. But you have to admit, he hasn't just slinked away in shame, and allowed his life to spiral downward. Doing events like this for kids and the community must be evidence of character. Really unfortunately situation.
  13. zipped stay the zippers?
  14. I volunteer to work on a new theme. I've done them before, though not in IPS
  15. I did too. In fact, Imight have even stop coming because that was just how I used zipsnation. I always came and clicked that to see what was new. But I have found in the upper right (under teh search bar): the "View New Content" link.
  16. Do you think they regret leaving the horizon? TEAM CONF OVERALL Creighton 8-1 18-3 Villanova 7-1 18-2 Providence 5-2 15-5 Xavier 5-2 15-5 Marquette 3-4 11-9 Seton Hall 3-5 12-9 Georgetown 3-6 11-9 St. John's 2-6 12-9 DePaul 2-6 10-11 Butler 2-7 12-9
  17. Don't buy vBulletin. I hated that overpriced, overexploited bloatware. If however you are going to, I have a full license for vBulletin that I would donate. I'll never use that again.
  18. Agree. The only people who may not have the right to organize are minors, criminals, and those whose organized efforts threaten people's rights or public safety (I say safety not public welfare, because that verbiage is an open door of interpretation), and even in those cases, all constitutional rights are not completely waived.
  19. Well, let me attempt to escalate this quickly by asking a question. Why shouldn't students, athletes, or any group of people be able to organize at a public school too? Perhaps this ground has been covered legally in the past, and it would be answered by judicial precedent (something I have no familiarity with) but I contend that if the right to assemble is directly addressed by the first amendment, and the right to organize and negotiate is inferred by the same, then why should government or public institutions be able to benefit from legislation that curtails these freedoms?
  20. This discussion needs a banner
  21. This is a threat to gain more political power inside the NCAA. Of course, all good threats, in order to work, must have credibility. But I'd say it does have some credibility, at least with the NCAA, because they don't want to lose the revenue. It probably scares the crap out of them. So the big BCS schools will probably get their way more and more often. What the NCAA has to look at is two things; How can it prosper and make money if the big BCS teams did leave? ...and more importantly, how much of a revenue/cost downgrade would the big BCS schools take by leaving. Perhaps it's time for mid majors to begin to look at strategies for locking a breakaway republic from attacking it's revenue sources and blocking it from exploiting it's high public sway. In other words, being ready to lock the big BCS\ out from scheduling inside the the NCAA and forcing them to only be able to play each other. This may sound like what they want, but I think it would severely tie their hands. Here you have hundreds of schools playing each other in all the old familiar conferences, and on the other hand, a handfull of prima-donnas playing each other endlessly, clamoring for attention, as if the AFC east were begging their east coast media outlets to promote them while the rest of the NFL played along without them, then you would find that the Big BCS breakaway would get stale and lose it's vitality.
  22. I plan on seeing if I can wander off into land early, and set an alarm for 3am. I will, however, set my DVR, because I know what my mindset tends to be like at these hours... my abode could fully involved in fire and I would be half consciously calculating how many more seconds of sleep I could get away with.
