  1. You're right Dave. And it did eventually start a discussion, despite my angsty off-topic ranting. I'll just try to bow out of here with as much grace as I can salvage after just suggesting, perhaps, throwing up a little blurb/excerpt/teaser from the actual article instead of just a link. I dunno
  2. This isn't my site, but on my forums, noobs who post links to pull people offsite are perma-banned. Regs who do it are warned for the first couple of offenses, particularly if they just post a link and don't actually create a topic in their post. A masked link is even more egregious. Apparently this site has different rules. I'm not on staff here and have no intention of falsifying a sense of authority. I'm just voicing this as a pet-peeve. Why did you go through the trouble to mask the URL?
  3. can we actually post something here in this forum instead of offlinking to other sites with masked URLs?
  4. I like the "Z" but it actually looks like it needs a little tweaking to my eyes. I actually like how the "Z" in the zips logo at the top of this board looks slightly more stylized and sleek when compared to the standalone Z logo. What is a zip anyway? Ignoring the story of it's origins, "zip" implies something quick. I think the "Z" should be lower and sleeker and leaning into it's long points more, like a bent bolt of power. I think with the right tweaks to be dashing and potent, and made prevalent, the Z symbol could indeed be turned into a recognizable brand like The X alluded to above, for the reasons mentioned above, because there really wouldn't be much competition for recognizably.
  5. Wow! instant classic
  6. This sounds like the meaty part of Kënt's résumé.
  7. when's the last time Can't lost 3 in a row in mac play. It's almost like they sold their bb soul for fb
  8. This reminded me of a poll question I thought up recently. Would you rather the Zips get to the Sweet 16, or win the whole NIT? I thought about it for a bit and realized that almost everyone would vote sweet 16. So I think a better poll would be, "What would be better, one win in the NCAA, or winning the NIT?"
  9. Well, if the zips rack up some losses but still win the Mac Tourney, it's doubtful they would still be seeded 12 and match up with OSU
  10. I'll just root against both, and whichever one loses, I'll take it. LOOL
  11. BITE YOUR TONGUE! That could give us with 25 or 26 wins and no automatic bid. This sound vaguely familiar to anyone else?
  12. I have one of these sitting in my frige at this very moment! It has a corked top, which I shall be removing tonight during the game.
  13. This tells me to look for aggressive play. They'll want to bait the zips into trading shots at the stripe at the end of the game if it's remotely close. Need to get out early and demoralize them.
  14. I nominate for debbie-downer post
  15. I think that not stating at full attention during the anthem is a whole different animal (and somewhat common these days) compared singing or chanting over the anthem.
  16. Hay Kep, I'm pretty sure Zeke is more interested in his future than you are. Maybe he doesn't want it, but I think that if he wants to play in the NBA, he's got a brain and smart people to talk to about what might work for him toward that purpose. Just sayin'.
  17. Kids are too cynical these days to fall for marketing ploys pushing the "coolness" of a product. What is cool is generally socially accepted and socially propagated, and these days, that means digital media as well as interpersonal communication. Of course, for some, that will instantly conjures the bright idea of social media marketing. That's not so bright. It avoids dealing with the premise first layed down here (which some might disagree with) that is that advertising, no matter how clever, does not override social phenomena. You need to change the perception, and that is very difficult to do in the sports world. What we have going for us is a history of consistent winning. What we have working against us (and the cynicism manifests itself) is that we don't win against big names, or in big games. There are few who care about Coppin State. The Rowdies are a great example of an exception. They promote the idea that you can participate, support, and have fun doing it, even though you aren't playing (and winning) against Columbus or Syracuse. Something more needs to be done like this, or something needs to be done to expand what has already been done so that it is broader and more inclusive, and more socially pervasive. I'm not saying that I have any genius ideas along those lines, but I do contend that these are the sorts of angles we need, rather than conveying the subtle browbeating that says "You may think that going to Zips ball games isn't fun or cool, but you're wrong", which I contend never works.
  18. Wow, I spent a few years in those ugly houses south and east of campus, and have some good memories, but plans like these are exactly what is needed.
  19. Yes, this is internet is serious business! I know your type. My actual point was not that specific. I cited one factor. If you read the quotation you put in your post, I said that "there are other factors far more comparatively relevant here" than what else can be done at the same time as the basketball game. Because you have a differing opinion, you happened to know one statistic that could refute an example of another "factor" and you went straight at it. This is when I know the discussion is not worth it and we are both just going to be defensive. In fact, rather than just let me go when I said "you win", you even had to chide back with the above quote. Thank you for your gentlemenly discussion. I'd rather go talk about something that isn't very serious internet business to Dave in Green so that someone might actually read my posts for the actual concepts I am communicating instead of disecting them into refutable bullet points. I always find it interesting how serious people get about discussions like this. It's so important to them that they don their armor and go to war, as if all of mortal existence hangs in the balance. The funny things about discussions and even debates is, almost everyone has already picked a side and wont be budged. I came here to talk and contribute my opinion because I didn't realize it was going to be a debate and a battle. You can have it. I'm not interested.
  20. someone just pounced on one point. Fine. OU has student support because they only have cow tipping. You win. Enjoy your reality.
  21. Wait! We talkin about students??? When I was at UA, I found the zipstrip more interesting (and more convenient) than "downtown". Oh, uhm, The Vault had 3 floors. LOL I don't really understand how "...a minor league nba team in very short driving distance, Cleveland, along with the Browns, Cavs, Indians, Monsters, and Gladiators, as well as a lot of commuters...." is keeping students from supporting the basketball team more in Akron than in Athens. Even my stupid allusions to Tangiers and Swensons really have no affect on this. Don't get me wrong. I'm starting to take this point/thread far enough to sound like an OU apologist/sympathist. I'm nothing of the sort. I just believe that there are other factors far more comparatively relevant here. Getting a few rounds into the NCAA tourney last year is one of them.
  22. So does the ten commandments
  23. What does Akron have that Athens doesn't? Swensons & Tangiers? Yep! Boys, you can find me at swensons, you can forget that ballgame. [edit]Oh, and I'll be at Luigis later.
  24. Which supports the concept of not overbuilding size but investing instead in quality. I am also a huge fan of seat-backs, and do not get inspired by the idea sitting on a flat bench for hours.
  25. sounds like throwing darts at the wall and making excuses now. rural school = higher event attendance? I thought OU was a huge party school. There is obviously there is more to do there than cow tipping. Akron is not a huge cultural mecca.
