I think I saw Seny Ndiaye at tonight's game. He's a 6-11 center from WVU who's in the transfer portal. He's originally from Sengal but played his HS ball at Huntington Prep in WV.

Which is infuriating. They did the same thing for 3 years with Zeke Marshall. Good job, MAC. Way to keep some of your best players on the bench. That's worth the price of admission. 🙄

We're learning to play w/o relying on Bryan Trimble scorching the nets. I like it. If Bryan's on fire then great! Icing on the cake. But we don't go into games with that as our game plan & then commence to offensively pee down our legs if Trimble, as is more often the case than not, happens to be cold as ice. Kent ran us off the 3-point line last time & we didn't respond well. Playing inside out should, one would think, give us better looks from 3-land tonight. I think I'd start Dawson over Trimble tonight. He's a junk yard dog, won't get punked, is a better defender, better rebounder, and he'll keep you honest from the 3-point line. What's worse for Trimble's psyche? Being relegated to Instant Offense Microwave 6th Man, or getting yanked as soon as Groce sees he's cold? I think Microwave 6th Man is a cool role to play on a team. Wonder if Trimble's "teamism" is strong enough to allow him to do that?

This is way before my time. Though I went to a couple games during the Coleman Crawford era, I'd have to begin with the Dan Hipsher era. Enrique is still building his Zips resume. Having said that, I'd have to go: 1. Jeremiah Wood 2. Romeo Travis 3. Demetrius Treadwell 4. Big Dog 5. Zeke Marshall (focussing on his excellent senior season. His freshman-through-junior years were awfully underwhelming) 6. Enrique Freeman As sophomores: 1. Enrique 2. Wood 3. Treadwell 4. Big Dog 5. Travis 6. Marshall

NLI National Letter of Intent (Late) Day 2022

Welcome @Beach83 Glad you're here & hope you keep posting! Go Zips! -
I should have started an Enrique thread. Could one of the moderators start an Enrique thread an move these Enrique posts? I kind of started a rabbit trail in the KSUcks thread.

I agree. I was going to start a thread titled Is Enrique Freeman the Best Akron Big Ever? But I held off thinking it’s not yet fair to compare a sophomore Enrique with a senior-year Romeo Travis, a senior-year Jeremiah Wood, a senior-year Zeke Marshall, or a senior-year Demetrius Treadwell.

Basketball practice facility (and more) coming

I just read that Saturday night the Canton Civic Center is hosting a boys basketball double-header. Game #1 is Akron Buchtel -v- Lake, while the main even in game #2 is Akron STVM -v- Oak Hill Academy (VA). My dad used to take my brother & I to professional wrestling events at the Civic. You could stand on the floor as the wrestlers made their way to the ring. I patted Macho Man Randy Savage and the Road Warriors' Hawk and Animal on the shoulders cheering them on. One night we hung around for a while after the last match & Jake the Snake Roberts & the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiasi (sp?) came out & talked to us for about 10 minutes. Those are some of my favorite memories as a kid. Akron needs an arena. -

Got another walk-on kicker. This one is a 5-star Kohl's kicker from Georgia! -
Great post, @bigjim. Like you, I think I'd give JoMoe & Co.'s recruiting class an A-, considering the late start and only having about a month to pull it together. I'm very excited about our defensive backfield with the additions of KJ Martin and Cam Threatt. If they don't start -v- St. Francis I'll be surprised. They immediately give us a competitive defensive backfield. If Bubba plays next year we're going to be pretty good at linebacker as well with the addition of Tim Terry as well as Boateng and Andrew Behm, whom I was very impressed with as a true freshman. What else I'd like to see: Another transfer OL, obviously. A guy who can come in, along with Max Banes (hope he pans out 🤞) and contribute immediately in Week One -v- St. Francis. I'm psyched about the three HS studs we signed, but more than likely they'll be redshirted next year. I would also like to see another transfer interior DL. I think Syracuse transfer Curtis Harper will be a starter from day one. But Miss. State transfer Devon Robinson is a little bit lighter than I was expecting (260) so I think he'll have some trouble competing on the interior of the DL. His height is outstanding, but given his weight he sounds like he may be a bit of a tweeter - either a very heavy DE or a relatively light DT. I'm expecting HS signee Kiawan Murphy to redshirt as I don't believe I've ever seen a high schooler come right in and contribute meaningfully on the interior of the DL. I'll bet conditioning may be an issue with him as well & wouldn't be surprised to actually see him lose weight during his redshirt season. Kato graduated and Gibson transferred, so I'd also like to see an experienced transfer QB added to the roster before Spring Ball begins. I like DJ Irons, but if he were to go down, none of our backups have had any game PT whatsoever. I think the RB's we signed are good-not-great. I know Kellom really looks like a stud on film and he was D-1 1st Team All-Ohio, but the fact that we were his only D-1 FBS offer has to temper my expectations a bit. And Cam Wiley, while being 6-2 is outstanding, the fact he only weight 185 has me a bit concerned about how durable he'd be. If he were 5-8 & 185 I wouldn't be as concerned but 6-2 at that weight & I'm hoping he doesn't get broken in half (he'd better not be a straight up runner - get down & behind those pads, Wiley!). So, thought our stable of RB's is presently pretty solid and very deep with Jonzell Norrils, Ant Williams, Blake Hester, Cam Wiley, and Charles Kellom, I still wouldn't mind seeing us add one more transfer RB. We lost M&M but we're going to be stacked at WR w/ the tremendous additions of Alex Adams and Jacques-Louis. If they aren't two of the best WR's in the MAC next season I'll be surprised.

I guess I’ve got to accept the fact this team is simply not pretty to watch. Each and every night is a grind, but at the end of the day we’re 16-6. The proof is in the pudding.

Double high five from Groce to Wynn.
