When Guthrie scheduled Ohio State ensuring that we'd start the season at best 1-3 I had zero excitement about this year's football season, an emotional void regarding Zips football I hadn't experienced since before Lee Owens was hired as coach. Not good.

I actually had this thought too. I wasn't a future D-1 athlete & so never dominated like I'm sure all these guys did their respective high school teams & competition. So when the punt went over my head at the 10 it was easy to let it go because I would just breathe a sigh of relief (catching wobbly high school punts is the worst 😂), whereas these guys probably have the confidence to really think they're gonna break the big play every time.

I was taught in 8th grade to not field the punt if it was inside the 10. Stand on the 10 and if the punt is over your head you simply let it go. My coach was the assistant middle school principle who was also the wrestling coach and assistant track coach. Here we are playing D-1 college ball and how many times have we fielded the punt inside the 10 the last few years? I'm so confused. It's so simple. I'm aggravated and dumbfounded. I can't wrap my head around the issue.

Still holding out hope for Moorhead. Year 3 and he still doesn't have a true dual-threat QB to run his read option. That's concerning. He's got a true dual threat high school senior committed this year, but when will he be ready to contribute? By '27? I thought it was a very light-yellow flag when Moorhead couldn't get an Oregon QB (not even a walk-on) to transfer to Akron to compete for the starting job. I believe Oregon had 5 QBs on their roster when we hired him. Did none of them choose Oregon because they wanted to play for Moorhead? We couldn't even get one of their walk-ons? But, anyway, I'm still holding out hope for Moorhead.

I'm impressed with our DL. Nunnally and Adler are All-MAC-caliber DE's & wow does the future look bright with Dall & Cheatom Lama LaVea & Nathan Kapongo are All-MAC-caliber DT's & we don't lose a beat with R-Fr. Marcus Moore in the game (in fact I see he graded higher than any DT last week). And then a new name I noticed last week @ DT was Zy Brockington. He had a good game & I don't think I saw him in any of our first 4 games(?). I still want to see more from Kiwan Murphy. I don't think he's playing up to his God-given potential yet.

Anyone? Was it our OL play? Was BUGS' D simply tired? What'd you guys think of JoeMo slowing down the tempo of the offense? I think I liked it. IMO our offense looked more composed & besides, it's ancient football wisdom to use all the play clock to give the defense more rest, even if you go 3-and-out. I love running more up tempo to completely gas the opponent's D... if your offense is a buzzsaw... which ours definitively currently (🤞) is not.

This is the momentum we need. Our cruel and unusual schedule guaranteed us failure to start this year... but the next few years have sane scheduling where we can compete for W's. So if we can finish this season strong and gain that precious, exciting momentum heading into next season... 💪💪💪💪
