  1. But wasn't our Sagarin and RPI better than that of some teams who got into the NIT? If the NCAA is going to act this way in March, maybe they should FORCE some of these "power" programs to play "mid-majors" on the road once in a while. Like that's going to happen......So if we go play these powerhouses at their places and lose, the powerhouses fatten up their records and we hurt our own. Then, knowing how they like smoky rooms, the selection committees will probably value W-L records and tell us that we didn't win enough games. Personally I think what really did us in was not our RPI or our SOS, but our SC (seating capacity) at the JAR. I think it was all about money and how much the participating schools could contribute.
  2. I'm not sure but since there are several teams in the NIT with a lower RPI and SOS than the Zips. And there are definitely a whole bunch of teams with worse records. I'm just wondering of all those teams that did not get in by winning their conference during the season, just how many had gyms SMALLER than the JAR? Could it be that Akron's Seating Capacity was not up to the committee's standards?
  3. Scheduling top tier teams and losing doesn't do you any good ... look at Can't and Ohio. Scheduling bottom feeders and winning doesn't seem like the answer either. It is mind boggling that we didn't make the NIT. I know that life is unfair but does it have to continually kick you in the nuts. When are we going to get our kiss .......
  4. Just how many relatives of Nick Goddard are out there???
  5. One loss - yes it is one that is tough to take - and everyone starts talking about the "Legacy" of the coach, the players, this team and teams past. Sports often reflects situations in life, and life is never fair - deal with it. This team won 26 games, they won them with the same palyers, the same coaches, the same strengths and the same weaknesses that they lost to Miami with. One loss, or seven, does not call for sack cloths and ashes when compared with 26 wins. Let congratulate Miami and Charlie Coles and move on to the NIT. Also lets be proud of all those Zips that gave us those 26 win. But please, please next year pratice free throws.
  6. Akron seems to get the short end of the stick from the MAC when it comes to scheduling. Every team get the shaft from the MAC when it come to poor officiating. Why the MAC gets all those invites to bowl games in football but on one to the NCAA Basketball Tournament is beyond me. What makes the Horizon League or the Missouri Valley Conference worthy of multiple bids when Toledo and Akron can only hope for an NIT bid, and Can't (even those they suck) sits home.
  7. Didn't someone say that at some point missed free throws would cost a game? Anyway congratulations to the Zips who were a better if not luckier team.
  8. In the 60's the Zips were a force in Division II, and I remember those guys very well. However this team is not only talented, and plays together, but has heart. Let's not talk about comparisons, but just enjoy the moment. Less we forget ... And the Zips rule ...
  9. Zipsrifle ...... I LOVE IT .........
  10. Yes you read it right ..... buy two five packs of Mac & Cheese, take they to the Q and get in for free.
  11. And the congregation said "AMEN". I'd much rather play a tired Western Michigan, a team we match up much better with, than Can't State for the third time. Can't is a team that plays with a lot of emotion and after last Sunday their emotional level will be sky high.
  12. From '67 to '69 Schroeder's paid my tuition. All those cases of cold beer you enjoyed were probably covered with my sweat from lugging them up the stairs. Now ain't that a pretty picture.
  13. And the congregation said "AMEN"! Too many people on this board complain that the University does nothing, then when something does happen they bitch that "it's cost too much" ... "it's not enough" ... "it's not done right" ...... Put yourself in the other person's shoes sometime people.
  14. Romeo Travis .... MAC Player Of The YearCedric Middleton .... MAC Sixth Man Of The YearWell deserved and now all we need is
  15. The Two Turtles used to be Demarinie's, people got shot or stabbed there evry other weekend.. Do you remember Schroeder's (the only bar on campus)? I'm so old I remember high buttoned shoes.
  16. Rowdies Rock ...........Does miss the MAC Tournament or the NCAA if we get there. In my undergrad days I followed the Basketball team to Evansville for the NCAA (Division II) Tournament and the Football Team to Murfreesboro for the Grantland Rice Bowl. Those were some of the best memories from my undergraduate days, they were definately better than Western Cult class. GO ZIPS .............. Because
  17. I for one hope that we don't meet Can't for the third time. My blood pressure is sure to go sky high, cause me to have a heart attack, and make my wife a rich widow, and probably run off with a low life Can't graduate.
  18. Bleacher Bum .... have more confidence in your team .... Akron 422 and Can't 14. Romeo may be held to under 200 points but he hauls in 67 rebounds and has 43 blocked shots. Rybak comes in and hs 92 points.
  19. I didn't know until I read in the Beacon that when the Lady Zips lost to Ohio on Wednesday they had four players suspend for team violations. McCoy, Miller, Veal and Harris did not play and McCoy and Veal will sit again the first gam eof the MAC Tournament. Does anyone know what the story is?
  20. I don't see the big problem here. As long as Akron is not refered to as Can't ........
  21. Congratualations to the Rifle Team for another tournament win:http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/16792495.htm

Dials has a fantastic night, where are all those people that wanted him benched a couple weeks ago? Rybak had a solid game for only seven minutes, are those Rybak critics having abeer witht he Dials haters? Milum play twenty eight minutes and about ten of them were outstanding, four reobunds in a row (two offensive and two defensive at a critical time). Conyers played twelve minutes, but I was definately not impressed, and I don't think he is a defensive wiz either. All in all a vry good game from the Zips and even though it was OOC it was a necessary win.
  23. While Linhart is not the same caliber as some of the other starters, I don't think he is as bad a many this board seem to feel. I watched him Saturday and I thought he was sick, didn't realize it was pain. Am impressed that he played and played as well as he did with that fracture.
  24. Big CONGRATS to the Lady Zips ... doesn't take all the sting out of the men's loss but it helps a little.
  25. Sorry to disagree ............ Games like this makes a team hesitant to play tough down the stretch when the game is close or the team is down. This does not build confidence ... this put doubt in your head.
