In my college days we also had those that smoked to many of those "funny little cigarettes".

While Can't is playing Ohio State and Duke; Buffalo is playing Pittsburgh and Miami (Fl.); Toledo is playing MArist and Louisville; Akron gets to "tune up" on such powerhouse teams as Tiffin and Niagara. Don't go by records when the MAC Conference games begin.

What make anyone think that they will sell those seats and rake in another $1,500? Years ago my son's and I use to sit there and the only reason we did is that we were low down, near the action and the seats were cheap. For watching the game they suck. The Athletic Dept. is not only incompetent but kinda dumb, they deserve an award

FearThisAmerica,First of all, thank you for your work. It does not go unappreciated. I cannot believe they didn't even tell you about this...just horrible.I disagree with you about the boycott. Put yourself in the position of the AD right now. Tomorrow, you see all of your student section sitting up top...there are maybe 10-15 people in the lower sections. You know that Friday you have #25 Nevada coming in...a game that will be on TV on ESPN Full Court and in Nevada...it also has a great chance of showing up on SportsCenter's highlights. You think about all of that...and you think about how bad it will look to basically have no student section down low. Don't you think you might reconsider your plans??? I sent e-mails to Rhoades, Ward, and Yurachek suggesting that they "rethink" this brilliant idea, as I will not be near a phone on Tuesday. I think a boycott of the lower sections is definately in order and make enough noise that people listen. Trust me they will never sell enough of those tickets to make a difference even with Nevada coming in. Many years ago (before the JAR) Memorial Hall used to be open at night and on weekends for students, mainly dorm students. All of a sudden the Athletic Department shut it down because of the "cost of a janitor and electricty". I was there when several students (and a couple of football players) cornered Gordon Larson (the football coach) and let him know our thoughts. Within a couple of days Red Cochran (the AD) opened Memorial Hall again, and guess what .... THE UNIVERSITY NEVER WENT BROKE! What this Atheltic Department is doing to the students is nothing more than a and a pure

I didn't get a "Season's Greeting" from the Alumni Association, but I did get a card from the Athletic Department. I'm gonna look again at my diploma, maybe I never graduated, just bought season tickets.

If you should happen to be a season ticket holder and pay big bucks for all your tickets, just what do you think when you see this type of promotion well into the season. I know that after buying seaon tickets in football, then leaning that they were selling general admission tickets for the Bowling Green game for half price didn't make me too happy. And where does someone find out about these promotions ... not at GoZips.com. There is NOTHING there under Promotions or Tickets about his $1.00 special, also nothing is there about the 2 for 1 basketball game admission, you have to read between the lines.

For the past several years I've thought that overall the officiating in the MAC is really terrible. It is inconsistant, and seems to spend half the time on "make-up calls". I won't go as far as to say that the officiating favors one team or another, I think it stinks for both teams, but it does influence the way the game is being played. Sometimes it seem like a football field out there and other times there are more rinky dink fouls called than at Barbi's birthday party.I just can't see why the MAC can't see this problem and do something about it. Those were MAC officials at the game tonight.

Question about Akron denying YSU into the MAC?
ZipAlumn replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Finally...we have a winner for "Least Compelling Worldwide Internet Thread of 2007!" It narrowly edged out a thread discussing an odd-shaped mole on Brett Musberger's back. Brent Musberger has an "odd shaped mole" on his back???? -
A high RPI rating is nice, but a team becomes better by playing tough opponents, even those that are much better. Look at some of the "big name teams" our conference brothers are playing this year. Granted the wins have been few and far between, but I will bet that those losses made them a better team come conference time.Buffalo ... PittsburghMiami ... Kentucky - Illinois - MichiganCan't ... Ohio State - Butler - DukeWestern Michigan ... Pittsburgh - West Virginia - Northwestern - IndianaBall State ... Kansas - Georgetown - Butler - Indiana - Oklahoma StateToledo ... Missouri State - Iowa - KansasOhio ... Louisville - NebraskaCentral Michigan ... ArkansasKD said that as the season progresses he " ... is very happy with (the) schedule". I think not. All that being said .....

There are a lot of excellent comments on this subject. i too am extremely disappointed in the U of A's marketing of their athletic teams. In case anyone noticed the box score for the Winston-Salem game were all screwed up. And Akron has other teams besides football and basketball that could use a little "love" from the Marketing Department. One additional comment I would like to make concerning skip-zip's post. Personally I don't care if these people are new to Akron, I don't care if they are "inexperienced". They are drawing a paycheck and thus they should be professionals. Tickets not printed on time, news flushes and publicity releases full of errors, ticket promotions not getting promoted, and in general shooting yourself in the foot over and over is NOT PROFESSIONAL. Somethings about the job are standard and expected no matter where you are. Hey, was he reason this board was "down" Sunday is that they were adding a spell checker? Good work

How 'bout we make it Akron -38!!! This time the Zips didn't beat the spot ... they only won by 35.

Robert Morris has a 5-1 record having lost only to Pittsburgh and having defeated Duquesne, Maine, New Hampshire, Marshall, and Florida International. This is another team like Oral Roberts that for years has been a fairly good mid major with a shot at the NCAA tournament.

Go Lady Zips .... GREAT JOB

K.e.n.t has Dicks Stadium. I think that cost John Holmes about $50.00 back in 1973? That's GREAT ........

oh crap, everyone is going to be high. at least two people a game will be robbed and once a season a murder will take place.they ought to name it after that place where you donate plasma. it seems to be the most popular place in town. My how times change ...... in my undergraduate days I would never have thought about donating plasma. I SOLD mine, I needed the money for beer. :rofl:An afterthought ... don't you think we should build a staduim before we start naming it ???
-
That was my understanding also ......... However I can see donations drying up should Wolstein's plan start to pick up steam. I really don't see how taxpayers in this area will have anything to say about a stadium on campus. If there is any taxpayer money involved it will have to come from Columbus, and that is a real stretch anyways. The main thing that concerns me about Wolstein's is that it might very well draw donations money from business that want to invest in a soccer stadium, mainly because it is a commercial venture and there might be some type of payback.

Donaldson was #73 and Crouch was #72. Personally I think that Crouch was blamed on this board for a few of those holding and off sides penalties that were actually called on Donaldson. Don't get me wrong they both had far too many penalties, it's just that nobody seem to have given Donaldson his "due" in that department.

WINNING NUCLEUS FORMING FOR LADY ZIPS
ZipAlumn replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Getting back to the original premise of this thread, The Lady Zips seem to have the beginnings of a winning progream and it continues into next year. Next year's recruits all seem to be pretty good players. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...0&ATCLID=694256Way to go Coach Krest -
"Also, noticed our female rifleteam roster is twice as big as our male roster. Very interesting." And the way they shoot, if I were guy looking for a date, I sure be on my best behavior after asking them out.
-
I really do have to disagree that "we were some bad officiating and a bad long snapper away from defending our title." This team had simply too many problems to even be considered for a bowl game. In fact I think that if the Zips had somehow managed to luck out and get to a bowl this year, they would have only embarrassed the University. I know that the last game embarrassed me.

I am inclined to agree somewhat with InTheZone. I don't really understand why everyone is infatuated with Brookhart but wants to spit on Owens. For me the jury is still out on Brookhart. I am not saying fire him, but I don't understand why he kept playing Getsy when he couldn't move the team. I don't understand why he kept Crouch and Donaldson in the game when they kept holding and jumping offside. I don't understand why the coaches couldn't seem to make changes during the game to get the offense moving. And I think that there is a distinct lack of disciplne on this team. I counted at least three times the officials could have called personal fouls against the Zips tonight against Western Michigan. The play was at least 40 yards away when a Zip player would take a "cheap shot", and all the ref did was talk to the guy. This game, for me, was almost as bad as last year when I sat in the pouring rain and wached Akron get embarrrassed by Army.

Your right Zip81, I forgot about the time we spent "searching' for a conference affiliation, and the fact we paid to get out of the Northeast Conference. Muse did get the JAR built when the legislature wasn't giving any university money for athletic buildings. It was a compromise and classrooms and the Governor's name had to be added, so with that in mind the building isn't all that bad. I would be happy if they just put a few new bulbs in the Rubber Bowl's scoreboard. But most of all I think it is time to move on ... what is past is past ... learn from history and move on.

In business you don't let the little thing get away from you or you'll never be able to overcome a big problem. The marketing portion of the Athletic Department should know about a sign listing the game time on campus, and should have got that changed. In my opinion there is no excuse for that screw up ... none. Just like there is no excuse for GoZips.com listing game quotes and box scores, but not listing them as happens all too often. There is no excuse for the inaccurate information that supposedly came out in preseason to the season ticket holders. I would never have accepted this shoddy work from an unpaid intern let only someone that was getting a paycheck.
