  1. What about Lolla ???????????
  2. It has been many years since my so called athletic achievements, but one thing I do remember is that you NEVER, NEVER, EVER take any opponent lightly. If you have a bad game and they play over their heads, guess what, there is a very good chance that you will get your butt kicked. If you must belittle an opponent do so after the game, the game you won.
  3. I agree that it is a bummer that the Zips didn't get a bid. I don't understand why, but in all the years I've followed Zips soccer they have never been shown any respect. I agree that they should be one of the top 48 teams in the nation despite our RPI, but last year we had a much higher RPI and look at the tournament seeding we received. As for Coach Porter I will wait to see what happens next year and I will do the same before getting my hopes up for the 2007 team. Remember we will "only lose' three significant contributors, but this year we only lost two and look what happened.
  4. Personally to me it sounds like just another boondoggle. I have never seen a study group with nine political appointees that came up with a way to cut costs and save money.
  5. Huh ...... That gets a little complex for me. The NCAA should just drop the attendance policy instead of coming up with these convoluted scenarios. And if these is a exemption for staduims that seat 25,000 and under, the Athletic Department should just get smart and cover up another 5,000 or so seats at the Rubber Bowl for the time being.
  6. Read the article then do the math........With five home games the Zips need a total of 75,000 atendance. That means with three home games left we need an average of 13,756 per game not 10,317. And I am still wondering about the 33,732 total for the first two games. Also do those BOGO general admission tickets sold for the Bowling Green game count, or are they disqualified as "deeply discounted"?
  7. In case you missed it the Rifle Team took 1st AND 2nd place over the weekend and the Coast Guard Academy finished third. Way to go .......
  8. I really like that. Great job Dr. Z
  9. There is something to be said for the "cozy" confines of Memorial Hall. I rememer that students had to get in line early before the allotment of student tickets were gone. But that place really rocked when Turner hit a jumper from the key or Big "DAWN" Williams dunked. Not to let Muse off the hook (he did hire Faust), but my undertanding was that even after naming the building after Jim Rhodes, money was so tight in Ohio that they had to make it a dual use building and include classrooms.I like the Rubber Bowl, but it's time has come and a stadium on campus should be a higher priority than and new basketball arena.
  10. Bowling Green is up this coming Saturday ....... but I wouldn't want to call them a "bottom dweller". They are 4-5 overall, but 3-2 in the MAC. Their losses, with the exception of Temple were not as embarrassing as some of Akron's; Wisconsin, Ohio State, Can't State, and Central Michigan, all teams with winning records. The Zips have to play a better game than they have since North Carolina State in order to win. And frankly with what I have seen lately about this team that doesn't seem likely.
  11. Ohio's defense looked pretty good and their running game was very effective. Now Ohio at Athens is scaring me. First we have to get by Toledo.GO ZIPS .................
  12. Thanks zff. I'll try it later ... right now all that's on is commercials.
  13. GoZips.com says that Saturday's game with Toledo will be shown on ESPN 360. Does anyone have a possible link? I've checked but I can't seem to find one.
  14. Why did you have to open that can of worms sgm405? Now everyone is gonna get their hopes up and start posting that the Zips have a chance to win the MAC East. And we both know that despite what is in our hearts ... our heads know better.
  15. If the 1st game was 16,00+ then Homecoming was 17,600+. I just don't think that there was that many for either game. I agree with Z-P the "actual" attendance was closer to 12K than 17K, but what the "H" ..... we need that 17K figure.
  16. Last night I broke down and shelled out $3.00 for a program for my grandson. Later on I borrowed it back to check the starting time for the Bowling Green game. Guess what! THERE WAS NO SCHEDULE IN THE PROGRAM. Lots of statistics, advertisements, "puff pieces" and fillers, but NO FRIGGIN SCHEDULE. Will someone tell me how you can have a football program without a football schedule inside!
  17. No announcement concening a new stadium yet. The Beacon Journal had this article in it on Sunday. http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/news/15821487.htmFor my money they should at least be able to put light bulbs in the scoreboard.
  18. "Richard Jackoboice came to UA in 1967, the day after it became a state school. He promised then-UA President Norm Auburn a 100-piece band, which he delivered, then nearly doubled it the second year."Richard Jackoboice took over from Paul Winters and developed the Uiverstiy of Akron Band into the outstanding unit that it is today. He will be remembered fondly.
  19. Who is "putting away the grill" or "pulling down the flag". I am the cheapest graduate in the history of the University of Akron and I still have 80% of my season's tickets that I haven't used. However I think that I learned something about logic at the university. A record of 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the MAC with a bowl invitation is a stretch. But I'll be there ... dragging myself up all those crumbling steps without a handrail, sitting on those broken bleachers, wishing I could buy a beer in the stadium, but still cheering the Zips on to victory.
  20. A sad commentary on today's society. I wonder why he doesn't file an assult charge himself.
  21. There is a nice article in today's Akron Beacon Journal about Zips soccer and a family tradition. http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/15738756.htm
  22. I stopped by the JAR and stood in line at the ticket window. They offered to give me a "ticket application" and if I gave them my credit card they would mail me the tickets. Several others were in line also, one was given an application for season tickets (kinda late), but I don't know what the others were there for.I understand that the Athletic Dept. does not have a direct influence over the year's success for the various teams. What really bothers me is the fact that there was the $500+ parking lot doonboggle: the new and improved web site (isn't the Athletic Dept responsible for this?); the fact that they offer a season parking pass for $25, but you can park at the five single games for $15. I understand that the majority of a team's schedule is set years in advance, but I am not sure exactly what the MAC has to do with the scheudling. I also heard a rumor that some people who supposedly qualified for the 1,500 "Fear The Roo" blankets for purchasing season tickets never got them. I'm not sure this really happened, because I got mine, but did hear a couple complaints. It just seems that the Athletic Dept. could be better organized, and some of these problems eliminated.
  23. With all due respect ... I know that hope springs eternal, but what are the chances. Despite being 0-5 Miami played Northern Illinois tough, and had a chance to win or tie at the end of the game. They played with an enthusiasm that I don't see on the Zips. Maybe part of our problem is that, early on, the expectation was that we would win the MAC, go to a bowl game, and finish somewhere around 9-3 or even 10-2. So far we have "talked a good game" ... we just haven't been able to play one ... with the exception of Penn State.
  24. Miami didn't win tonight but they looked very good for a team that hasn't won a game yet this year. We better not take them too lightly for homecoming in a couple of weeks.
  25. That's kinda scary ..... but I'm not worried about the current team. In general players like Turner ( he did play several years in the NBA) & Thompson looked so great because of their competition. The game and the level of competition has definately changed over the years and this year's team (as well as last) will be remembered fondly as "one of the good ones". The trick is to keep building on our good years. In the past there were a lot of lean years between the good ones.
