What I think is that the entire idea stinks. After being in business and seeing how little was really saved when two geographically close locations were merged, and how much was really lost ... the entire idea stinks. And to think that in any political contest where Akron and Cleveland were pitted against each other and Akron would come out on top ... the entire idea stinks. And looking at the two universities I don't see any synergy in combining them ... the entire idea stinks. I think by now you get my opinion of the idea.

We need more than C.J. This game is becoming too painful to watch. Can anyone tackle or block out there?

Zips Gear at Wally World, Finish Line
ZipAlumn replied to sgm405's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
The Wal-Mart on South Arlington had lots of Zips sweat suits, shirts, hoodies, etc. ... the only problem was that they were mostly one size Large. Still I broke my vow of boycotting Wal-Mart and bought my daughter a sweat suit and shirt. I told her that "big was in". -
What game was Can't coach Doug Martin at?
ZipAlumn replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Football
When all is said and done (and believe me someone should stick a fork in this turkey of a subject) I have to agree with g-mann17. -
Maybe Zip Nation members should be more respectful of others and their opinions. I don't post nearly as much as I did last year due to the fact that a couple of times I voiced an opinion and the smart ass remarks and personal insults that were engendered caused me to rethink my desire to post. Some people on this board seem to feel that if you don't agree with their statements you are fair game for ridicule.

When I made that type of comment to a post several months ago I was vilified for a week. Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen to you as it is very disheartening.

Can We See Some Of this Saturday?
ZipAlumn replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I completely agree ... and you can add to those two groups the students at the University of Akron. Even when I went there (before the advent of the wheel) most of the students were apathetic and rarely attended anything on campus, let alone athletic events. -
I am not going to attend the game in Columbus, as I have a commitment for Saturday evening. However why should I drive two and a half hours to Columbus, fight the traffic and crowd, walk sixteen and a half miles from where I park to sit three thousand yards from the field, again fight the traffic and crowd, then drive two and a half hours back home. I can just sit down in front of my DISH Network, order wings and a pizza, drink some beer, and enjoy the game. But then maybe I'm just not a fan.

Soccer America Top-10 Announced
ZipAlumn replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The Zips have already beaten Michigan State 2-0 and Cleveland State 3-0. It's early in the year but it looks like we have solved our problem from last year of a weak offense. -
In 1987 (the 1st year of the Faust reign) we went 7-4, with Jim Dennison's returning players. we opened with that football powerhouse Salem College that now and then causes Mount Union some concern. 1990 was the year we went 7-3-1. I agree Faust was a better than average PR guy, and probably a fine gentleman, but as a football coach (the reason he was hired) he was obviously no Joe Paterno, Bear Bryant, Jim Tressell, and so on and so on .......As for great memories, well we all remember things differently. I remember 1987 as the year I quit buying season tickets.

For two games now Travis did not play and it was a "coach's decision" whatever that means.

Having graduated with a minor in English, one of my "pet peeves" concerning the internet is the fact that all too many people completely ignore spelling, grammer, punctuation, etc. I don't beleive that I am being anal retentive or anything, I do beleive that I am making use of the education that I received from the University of Akron. Also this post is not to call ayone names, embarrass anyone, of belittle others, but to make the point it is easier to read well written, properly spelled, gramatically correct posts.

This article was in Friday's Beacon Journal. http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/17071546.htmDoes anyone know the details? Why was this very talented young lady suspended the last couple of games and why did she want to leave?

I forget why everyone said it couldn't be done ... but it sure would be nice. During my student days (shortly after radio was invented) WZIP broadcast all the Zip's games.

I don't think it "sucks to be me" and I am definately not a "a union loving corporation killer from the UAW". I spent a whole lot of years in management sitting across the table from the Teamsters and I got along much better with them than with the management at Wal-Mart. With Wal-Mart it their way and no other. They could care less what you have to do to supply them with a product. They don't care if they force you to price your product to a point that you have a tough time making a profit. Because of the number of retail outlet nationwide they cause corporate offices tend to look at the gross income from Wal-Mart and not the net profit (if any) from that chain.

Good news ... but would be even better news if they upgraded their signal.

Looks like Hipsher may be unemployed again...
ZipAlumn replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Unfortunately in coaching as in business and life. it's "what have you done for me lately" and "why can't you be more like ....". Is it fair - NO .... do I like it - NO. Everyone has bad day, bad weeks, bad years, but they should always be measured against the good. The job you do should be judged on more than the results of your last game or your last assignment. When I was in a position of authority I tried to judge people that way, and any success I had in my career (which was pretty successful) was due entirely to the people that worked for me. -
I totally agree. Reasonable, intelligent discussions should be the aim of this board. Name calling, invective, and off the wall statements shouldn't have a place in Zips Nation. I an a "blue and gold" Zips fan and have been for over thirty years, but even I can see the reasoning why OSU would not come to the JAR to play the Zips. Oh, and as much I like this team and this coach, I wouldn't give them much chance of beating the Bucks with the team they have this year. In soccer we will kick their butts.

SIXTY SIX PAGES ........ A Vice President of a national company once told me that if I couldn't get my idea across in a one page letter, he didn't have time for my bullshit. And the letter I wrote him was only two pages long.

And the congregation said "AMEN"! I really like that phrase, it is unfortunate that it is so true.

I am still so stunned over the rejection the NCAA and NIT showed the ZIPS I don't plan on watching either tournament, and could care less about who wins. I had already commited to an NCAA Toutnament pool, and should I win (didn't even check who I had drawn) I plan to gove it to charity. Charity Simpson - who can usually be found in Canton standing on the corner of 6th and Cherry.

Sorry I just don't consider a game in Cleveland Stadium a home game. To me four games at home and eight on the road leave a little bit to be desired. And of the four home games only two (Can't & Ohio) get me excited.

Hey mcperp ... I think I'm a member of that 1904 Buchtel College Alumni Tea, and we are a powerhouse. Our record is 8-17 and we got an NCAA bid (number 6 seed) as well as an NIT bid (number 3 seed) for our second team.
