Let's try to keep our paranoia in check, eh?Akron has gotten at-large berths to the tournament several times in the past. The selection committee is made up of people who are football (soccer) coaches and administrators, who are well familiar with Akron's tradition in the sport. The real question to be decided is: Is Akron one of the top 16 teams in the nation -- deserving of a home game in the first round? The team can take it from there, win out and we should be playing at home at least to start the NCAAs. If Akron loses in the MAC tourney, then they will be sent on the road, most likely. I have to view our RPI -- again a crucial part of the puzzle, but I can't see a scenario where we are not in the NCAAs.I agree with everything Z.I.P. says, Akron played in the NCAA Tournament even before they were in the MAC. However I also remember last season in basketball and the NCAA and NIT tournaments. All too ofter the Zips have been

At this point it pains me to say that Can't may have a better football team than Akron. Damn did I actually say that? Well at least there is soccer.

Just took the time to read the article in the Buchtelite and it was interesting was JD said, "I think it's an interesting deal," Brookhart said. "Obviously, it helps us from an exposure standpoint............."With this type of exposure I don't think it helps.

Bowling Green definitely seems to want a win more than Akron. The defense is not tackling they are just trying to block tackle. The offense is only CJ7, and lets see if the coaching staff from BG put a stop to that after the half. This is the first time all year that I saw JD become angry though when CJ7 called that second timeout. Hopefully the second half gets better for Akron, but if this past years is any indication ............. :(

Better yet, I think they need to be voted out as soon as possible. We have two more years of Stickland. I'm not even sure if Fingerhut currently holds an elected office or is just a washed up hack who has been appointed to a post... but I am going to look into it. These guys need to be removed before they can do some serious damageThe people on this board should be proactive and contact (respectfully of course) the people involved in this boondoggle. They are:Ted Strickland - Governorted.strickland@governor.ohio.govGovernor's OfficeRiffe Center, 30th Floor77 South High StreetColumbus, OH 43215-6108General Info: (614) 466-3555 Fax: (614) 466-9354Eric Fingerhut - Chancellor, Board of Regentsefingerhut@regents.state.oh.us.Ohio Board of Regents 30 East Broad Street, 36th floor Columbus, OH 43215-3414614-466-0887FAX: 614-466-5866Give'em hell ........ :mad_flame:

Why did the Alumni Association keep this a secret. Was any other alumni or group invited or just the AK Rowdy's? And why the AK Rowdy's and not the AK Oldies, after all it is the Alumni Association? Just a question.
-
Don't know about Wednesday, but Thursday they have the "G.A.S. Appreciation Reception" on campus. That's the Greek Alumni Society. If you are really interested call the Alumni Association at (330)972-7270.

Why I will not renew our season tickets
ZipAlumn replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I for one happen to agree with Hip Zip. If the Athletic Department is too damn lazy to process their own donations and instead farm it out to some other agency well they deserve what they get or don't get. -
You have to understand the political scene in Ohio to make sense of this train wreck. Strickland comes into office and appoints "give him the" Finger-Hut to re-invent the wheel. Then all the legislators in Columbus jump on the bandwagon because they haven't been able come up with a way to change the funding of public education that the Ohio Supreme Court has ruled unconstitutional more times than a rerun of Friends.

Zips beat Bulls 1-0, take MAC lead
ZipAlumn replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Kudos to the Zip's Soccer team. Way to go ......................... :champs: :champs: :champs: -
If somebody is skipping class, it sure isn't me. All my professors love to schedule tests and quizzes on fridays. When I got back from running through that gauntlet, I looked and Zippy is up by nearly 1000. Way to go! I do think that we are starting to see help from other schools. If they want to do the work for us, I'm certainly not going to complain. It's 9:02 PM and Zippy is up by 1,217 votes .... now if only we could get (Give him the) Finger-Hut to keep Zippy and the University of Akron alive we would be OK

Ohio College Restructuring
ZipAlumn replied to UAZipster0305's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Both Stickland and Fingerhut are politicians with roots in the Cleveland area. The political and economic powers in Cleveland completely out weigh the political clout of the Akron area. Should a merger between CSU and Akron come about it will be spearheaded by political and economic interests and Cleveland beats Akron any day of the week. The reasons that the University of Akron is stronger than Cleveland State may be valid, but will be ignored. Should this merger come about Akron will be a branch of Cleveland ..... believe it!What bothers me is that our Ohio politicians seem to be trying to reinvent the wheel. In my opinion there is no logical reason to merger CSU and the U of A, or Can't or any other public university in Ohio. -
ONCE AGAIN,WHAT IS BROOKHART AND HIS STAFF DOING!?
ZipAlumn replied to Lee Adams's topic in Akron Zips Football
I've been a Zip fan for more years than I want to remember. Gordon Larson and Red Cochran were the heroes in my day ... and to my way of thinking Red Cochran is one of the best A.D.'s Akron has ever had. The Zips football team doesn't stink, the coaching staff doesn't stink, but the Athletic department does have the beginnings of an odor. We are being trained to accept mediocrity, and training started when we hired Faust. The MAC may be a weak conference now, but transferring to another (i.e. the Big East) is a pipe dream that would be a horror show for our football program. The Rubber Bowl is old and falling down but if we think that a new stadium will automatically change us into a winner is just whistling past the graveyard. The coaching staff lacks imagination and while I believe they want to win, they just don't know how, thus the conservation play calling. And finally the players that are recruited may be very good athletes, but in general they are not quality people and thus never make it to the field for any length of time. All in all this isn't a pretty picture, but at least we are not Can't. :wall: :screwks: :wall: -
42-0 LOL....we want 100 we want 100!!The final score OSU - 48 Can't - 3 The Golden Flushes kicked a field goal with a couple of minutes left. If I were Tressel and saw what Martin did after three series of downs I would have kept my 1st string in the entire game, and run up the score, rather than send in the scrubs just after halftime. The Can't State coaching staff has no shame. :puke:
-
Not only did Can't not give OSU a scare, but Martin was as good as his word and put the 2nd string in on the 4th series of downs in the 2nd quarter. The 1st team came back later but the 2nd and even 3rd team played the majority of the game. The only positive thing you can say about Martin is that he gave everyone a chance to play in the horseshoe. As for wanting to win the game or having confidence in his team's abilities, well Can't took home a lot of undeserved money today.
-
This has to be a joke or a statement take out of context or maybe it's April 1st. Martin would be a complete idiot if he actually said that and meant to do it. And even if he associated with Can't there has to be a limit to the amount of idiocy on that campus. If you aren't going to try to win why schedule the game? Not only is this a reflection upon Can't but also the entire MAC. If Martin said this and meant this he should be fired, then drawn and quartered. :screwks: :screwks: :screwks: :screwks:

I agree with the football - soccer scheduling conflict, however the "Meet the Team" event is not really a screwup. This isn't a bad idea in the context of Homecoming Weekend. If Homecoming Weekend would bring a lot of alumni back to campus then the "Meet The Team" night would fit right in with the athletic activities. In past years the soccer team and football team both played on homecoming weekend, but one played in the afternoon and the other in the evening.

The University of Akron merging with CSU! The University of Akron merging with Can't State! What is all the buzz about merging two universities 40-50 miles apart or two universities that currently have over 20,000 students each. There should be a very real reason to merge any two entities and I fail to see any good reason to merge any of these educational institutes. I've been through several mergers both nationally and locally and it has never been fun. Even when you come out on top (and I have been fortunate in this regards) there is alway pain, inefficiencies, stupidity, and confusion for some time before, during, and after the process. The thing about these talks of a merger is that I think the University of Akron will lose it's name and identity. And I don't see any reason for the change except for the sake of change. :nono: :nono:
-
My personal opinion is that this is a bad idea for both CSU and the University of Akron. Even with all the bullshit that Fingerhut is spouting I fail to see any advantage to either university. The idea of combining both basketball teams silly. Anyone who has been through a merger (and I've been through a couple) know the pain, frustration, ineffectiveness, and "political gamesmanship" that is involved. There should be a very good reason to merge to entities, and I can't find one is this case.

I'll admit that I've had my doubts about Brookhart ... and I probably will still have them. However give credit where credit is due ... this guy comes up with some real interesting and very effective plays at times. This has to be better than anything I've seen (and I didn't even get to see it) in a long time. Better than the last second reception in the Motor City Bowl. Congratulations Coach. :thumb:

Personally I don't see our Athletic Department spending much energy on getting people to home games .... away games .... or any games. I'm beginning to believe that they don't have much energy to expend on anything.

And the congregation said ..... "AMEN"

A reader of Rasor's Blog had an interesting comment about Zippy and the U of A Band. They wondered why the University (or Athletic Dept) didn't send Zippy to Connecticut. He said if the University won't support Zippy why should we? Just a thought ... don't kill the thinker.

I hope you are right about being in position to win the MAC East at the end of the season. Unfortunately I think that by the end of the season the best that we can hope for is the ability to compete with other MAC East teams, and the chance to win the MAC East will have long passed us by. If anyone feels this is negative, it's not, I feel that it is just being realistic.
