There has to be a major mistake here by someone. I'd imagine, even with a buyout, there is a date deadline for doing so. We're less than 7 months from kickoff for that game. I'm wondering what the heck we do here...two 1AA teams? That'll virtually guarantee no bowl (not that I thought we'd be making one this year...)

STO, complete with terrible K-ent announcers.

How about the line from Abreu? 20 min, 3/4 fg (2/2 3pt), 3 reb, 3 ast, ZERO Turnovers, 8 points. What a find with this kid, the next 3 years are bright at PG. It's a shame those two terrible losses against the West took some shine off of this team because they may be playing better than any Zips team during any stretch for the last several years. Lets run the table, 21-10 (11-5) looks good going into the Cleveland.

Another brilliant rebuttal. Full of in-depth analysis, facts, and no generalizations whatsoever.

It's a shame that so many people can stereotype a public employee as being overpaid to do menial jobs. As a public employee (a non-union one), I can assure you that the majority of the time that is incorrect. Do these unions protect some people who are worthless as workers at the expense of the new blood? In some cases yes, but this isn't limited to the public sector. Would we be better off without public sector unions? In some instances, maybe. In others, absolutely not. The rush to judgment that's being forced down the throats in some now GOP-controlled states is astounding. As far as the pension contributions and health care premiums, that was formerly an incentive to pursue a stable career in the public sector rather than a higher pay/higher premium private sector job. Still today, on average, public employees on the state and local levels are paid around 25% less in salary than their private party counterparts. I'm not sure the right way to get intelligent and hard-working public employees is to decrease benefits. There's no easy answer, but certainly the correct one isn't to jam it down the throats of thousands of taxpayers just because your political party happens to control the legislative and executive branches of the government.

MAC COTY to Be Decided Wednesday Night
RowdyZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Nah, Coach Dambrot's seat is getting warm. -
I noticed the band director out there with the cowbell. I loved it. I'm convinced that majority of people sit on their hands because everybody else does. It's that crowd mentality, "Well, I don't want to look silly being the only one to stand up and cheer..." This is another reason I believe a layout change at the JAR would benefit the overall gameday experience. If we had even one sideline section for students, and it was packed and loud and standing the entire game, I think it'd have at least a small effect on the rest of the crowd in the lower bowl. Again though, we're stuck with the Chicken and egg effect...students have to show support before the university would ever consider reconfiguring.

If they run the table and make a strong showing in the tournament, they might just might have a shot at an at large or play in OK, I am dreaming. Had we not lost to NIU and EMU, I think we'd be right there on the cusp of an at-large NCAA bid. Unfortunately, just like most seasons, it's MACC or bust. I have a good feeling about the MACC though. We are peaking at the right time. The second half of your post is spot-on. After the Zips lost every one of their "major" opponent upset chances (Temple, Dayton, Minnesota, Miami), the chance for an at-large went out the window. If we had won those two, however, we'd be in the drivers seat to bring home the regular season championship and be inside the top 100 RPI. For a team in the MAC to even receive a breath in the at-large conversation, they'd either need to win 3 of 4 of those quality games or have a total of 3 to 4 losses. If we were up in the neighborhood of 19-8 or 20-7 with a 2nd 50 rpi, we might be in the conversation for an at-large NIT bid.

K S U at Miami tonight.. A big one in the MAC East !
RowdyZip replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If I read THIS right, if the Zips run the table and both K-ent and Miami lose one additional game, Akron would win the MAC Championship by virtue of a 2-0 record vs K-ent. Head to head (if somehow we run the table): vs K-ent 2-0, vs. Miami 1-1 Record vs ranked teams: If BSU wins west, Akron is 1-0 vs #2, Miami is 1-0 vs #2 If WMU wins west, Akron is 1-0 vs #2, Miami is 0-1 vs #2 In a different scenario, if K-ent loses two more games, and Miami loses 1 in addition to us, we could still win the Championship via tiebreakers if WMU pulls out the West by virtue of their victory over Miami. So...root for WMU to win the west, and Miami and Can't to each lose at least one more game in addition to our matchups with them. Wow, gotta love how convoluted it is with just 4 conference games remaining. -

I think you have to root for Miami to give K-ent their 3rd loss. That puts the Zips two games back with 4 games left in the season, and the finale being @ K-ent. We'd just need one more loss by K-ent in their last 4 (don't forget they have that extra one shoved in there from the cancellation in Kalamazoo). If the Zips are at 5 losses (big assumption, I know) and K-ent is at 4, the finale would likely decide the regular season champion. I believe the first tie breaker is head-to-head, is it not? What's the second tiebreaker? Record vs West? Yeah, we're not winning much there. I hope that was vaguely coherent. Go Redhawks. -
Well done, Zips. Let's hope Nik is Ok and we can pick up a win against a decent MVC team on Saturday and keep the streak going.

14 of 21 on 3s. WOW.
-
Brett McClanahan is out of his gourd. Wow.
-
At the half: 41-23 Zips. We need to win this by 40, send notice to the rest of the East.
-
37-17 now after another 7-0 run...2 minutes to go in the half. Layin' the wood to BG...keep it up.
-
30-17 Zips with about 4 minutes left in the first half...Defense is looking fantastic and shooting >50% from the floor. Are our Zips back?
-
Just got a good chuckle out of the outdated Papa Johns commercial on 1350 stating sale prices on pizzas, "now through Superbowl Sunday!"
-
Bingo. I think we sometimes forget the successes we've had under Mr. McNees for the last 4 years. Oh yeah...and THIS was just added on MAC-Sports. In case you don't feel like clicking, ESPN2 has picked up the finale @Can't.
-
That's what I'm talking about!!! Go Zips!!!! I like the enthusiasm. I'd love to see the guys put together a nice little run over the next 4, with only BG on the road. Zips open as 5.5 point favorites.

As determined by who? What would JD have done with one more year? Played some slightly better offense (maybe) with some slightly worse (probably) defense? I'm sure that would've won much more than one game. I'm very satisfied with this class, as mentioned a few times above, needs of the team were addressed. There are a few guys out there that seem to be very impressive on the HS field and lets hope the talent evaluation is spot-on. I'd like to see 3-5 wins this season to prove adequate progress. Next year- 2 wins or less-angry 3-5 wins - expected 6+ wins - ecstatic It's amazing how an offseason returns some optimism for an angry Zip...
-
11-0 run to start the 2nd half by the Zips, only to then give up a 21-4 run....
-
NOT a free video. Have to sign up and pay a minimum of $5.95 to access the game. This is a good thing, don't think I could take it. OU /CMU on STO tonight Man...and i thought it was hard to choke on a cupcake...

Same here. How punctual. Okay. Hopefully they're just running a bit late. I was afraid I was having a glitch & missing it altogether. Same thing here. "Please Stand By" Terrible. Just terrible quality.
