The head referee was smiling and nodding his head to the band's music and student section during the last timeout. No lie. Take it for what it's worth, I'm sure it was a "staring off into the distance" thing, but it sure didn't look that way.

It continues to amaze me how good teams get calls and bad teams get "screwed." Did you WATCH the game?
-
Just got back from the game to the hotel. I'm pretty sure my blood pressure is still at about 180/120, so I'll bite my tongue on some of these posts. Let me just say, watching this game was a joke start to finish. Complain all you want about finishing strong, but the fact of the matter is that if this game is even remotely evenly called, the Zips don't need to score in the last 4 minutes. I doubt we see officiating that bad, even in the remainder of the MAC schedule. I'm sorry, but if you honestly think the Zips were bad enough in this game to be called for THIRTY ONE fouls, you paid no attention. Fight through, blah blah blah. I know. We still had a chance to win. Great. If Valpo gets called for 10 less fouls than Akron instead of 17 less, the Zips win by a half dozen. Pick up the pieces and play a tough squad that dropped 97 in their game tonight. GO ZIPS!

To my knowledge, the game is only webcast on the Horizon League Network. Leaving for the game now. GO ZIPS!

The wife and I are leaving Akron for the short 5 hour jaunty to the Valparaiso Courtyard Inn, and I thought I'd start a thread and see what pops up. The line opened at PK, but has since moved to Akron -2. Thoughts? We can probably use this for Duquesne as well, thanks to the short turnaround. GO ZIPS!

I wanted to bump this back up. Just another thought for voices to be heard. I'll compose a letter to the editor of the ABJ this weekend after our blowout loss to a terrible Buffalo squad. Everyone else, consider doing the same. If they see enough, perhaps one (or more) will make print. Somebody stated (I know, on an internet comment section) that they believe the contract for Ianello is 3 years guaranteed. If that's true, there's no reason that enough pressure will make them can the guy. Turn up the heat. :mad_flame: :mad_flame: :mad_flame:

Isn't it a 6PM Tip? According to the tourney website, we'll be up 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 5pm CST Duquesne/UDC matchup. According to the Valpo site, 7:30 CST/8:30 EST Gozips.com says 8:30EST Saturday's game is 6pm CST.

Just said hell with it and booked a hotel for the wife and I in Valpo for Friday and Saturday. We'll be leaving Akron around noon for the 5ish hour drive, arriving (hopefully) in time for the 7:30 tip. Does anyone have any clue about tickets? Does the U have any?

Who has the money to PAY for advertising to get rid of this guy? I sure don't. I'd throw in $5-$10 to go towards a billboard if we could get one cheap near campus. I feel that strongly. We haven't lost consecutive wagon wheel games in 20+ years. Not only did we lose, we got pantsed at home. How much does a billboard cost for a month or two?

I just read this and came here to post it. The last sentence calls out the entire UA management. Well done, about time someone had the cojones.
-
I left just after the half. We're now losing 35-3 at home to our rival, arguably one of the worst teams in FBS. HOW MUCH LONGER CAN THIS CONTINUE?
-
Misplaced blame MY ASS. FIRE ROB IANELLO NOW.
-
Future opponent Duquesne Dukes up 30-28 at the half @ #16 Arizona. It's a good thing this "tournament" guaranteed the top teams getting to play in the "finals" in MSG.

I detest the Buckeyes. I've posted it about it several times. However, I do respect Zips fans that choose to support both teams. I know some people here don't, and that's fine too. If you're an Akron student/alumni and you support the Buckeyes first and the Zips second that's where I run into an issue. That's just me. But I digress...If you think hiring Jim Tressell, if at all possible, wouldn't be at the very least a great shot in the arm to this program, you're being blinded by the Buckeye hatred. Sure, it wouldn't be worth it if the penalties were too severe, but otherwise it'd be the best move any AD at the school has ever made. Hiring Tressell would ad legitimacy to the program in the eyes of "Joe Akron." Hiring Tressell, though glomming on to the Buckeye bandwagon, would likely put 20k real butts in seats. Hiring Jim Tressell would guarantee Akron gets all the mid level/marginal BCS recruits, especially locally and all over the state of Ohio. Kids would be beating down the door to play for the guy. If you had the chance to play for K-ent/BG/Miami/Ohio/Toledo or Akron with the best facilities and stadium in the conference and a name coach, who would you choose?I have no doubt in my mind that the guy would easily turn the program around. And when it comes to 3 more years of Ianello or Jim Tressell, I'd hope we'd all be in agreement on the choice. If there were any chance, any chance at all...Youtube Tom should find a way to get it done.

I called the ticket office to find out if my season tickets had been mailed. The staff told me that the tickets arrived late last week. They are not mailing the tickets before the exhibition game. If you want the tickets before the John Carrolll game, you can go to the tickets office at Infocision Stadium during regular hours this week. The staff said they will have all of the season tickets packages at the John Carroll game. The ticket office will mail any remaining ticket pachages not picked up at the JC game. John Carroll tickets are included in the season ticket price.Thanks. Very helpful. I'm an hour away so I'll pick up on game day.I wonder why the Ticket Office wouldn't send out an e-mail to season ticket holders so we understand the status. It's been a while, but I would think they'd have our e-mails or, if not, should ask for it for these reasons. The University often struggles to appreciate what it's like to be a fan/customer.I bought my wife's season ticket last Friday in person at the ticket office and was told (even though it's GA) that I'd have to wait for them to come in the mail. I asked about the exhibition and the answer I got was not as definite. "They won't be mailed in time, but they might have them ready for you at that game."

I sure am glad we got that field goal in. Gets us within 11.

anybody else just have the video crap out?

I think Caleb Porter should be involved in the selection committeeIs this a bait post? Love Porter and the soccer program, but he should have very little (if any) input on personnel decisions in other sports.

It's hard to say this when any college team has 100% turnover every 4 to 5 years. If his "plan" had any merit whatsoever, halfway through his 2nd year wouldn't we have to be at least competitive? I hate to echo people here, but I skipped the game Saturday to go to an overcrowded, overpriced Cedar Point. I'm not sure what would've been worse, dropping $150 and riding 5 rides in 10 hours or watching the Zips give up nearly 600 yards of total offense and get squashed despite being +2 in turnovers. What's sad to me is that I'm embarrassed of the program. Maybe that's selfish, but when my co-workers are aware that I'm a big Zips fan and all I get come Monday is, "How much did 'you guys' get crushed by Saturday?" It's embarrassing. The only saving grace is that the majority of them are suckeye honks and their season, scale wise, is in the dumps as much as ours.
-
Very sad if true, although I'm not sure "victim" applies here.Victim is always the appropriate term for an untimely death. In this case, a suicide victim died at their own hands due to a mental defect of some sort, whether it be mental illness or depression. Still a victim...

....Or, they are the most unimpressive 4-3 team in the country. The have two wins against I-AA teams. They have been destroyed in two "rent-a-win" games. The were destroyed by Toledo. They beat Akron and CMU who have a combined win total against D-1A teams of....let's see....one.I'd still take their 4 and whatever over our inevitable 1-11.

+1At the end of that video, the guy from Arizona who was ejected is laughing and smiling. If I'm his coach, he gets a couple extra games on the pine above and beyond what the NCAA hands down.

The wife and I had Pizza Hut. Gave into a craving...man, it was good.

+1.But I'd take anything over simply renovating the JAR.Minus the upper level benches, EMU's joint is a fantastic place for basketball as well. Look it up.

Speaking of which, UA should purchase the former Inventure Place building.Inventure Place still houses the Hall of Fame in the basement and a newly added magnet public school.
