  1. Indiana doesn't sell out when OSU comes to town, and if they do it is b/c 1/2 are OSU fans.I expect a nice crowd for the Syracuse and Northern Illinois games. Anything else will be tough. For the GW game, they should promote perhaps a 50/50 raffle and/or a combination of that and some $$$ to charity. Something big will have to be done there to get attendance up. Of course, if they beat Syracuse, GW game might not be too bad. STUDENTS, STUDENTS, STUDENTS will be the key for those first couple games.Ergo, the GW game might not be too bad. I guaranty those Orangemen are going to be in for a world of hurt. And I will be there to join in the revelry that will usher in a new era of winning ZIPS football! Man, I can't wait. There would be nothing sweeter than starting off the season, and the RI regime, by winning the "rubber game of the match" against Syracuse. It sure beats breaking in a new staff against Salem-Tokyo (as they are known in the present) or the Hurons (as they were known in the past). 25 point bonus to whomever correctly names Dennison's 1st game opponent (road game) and his first home opponent. AT Delaware , Butler-home 50 point bonus for the same info for Larsen. At Wittenberg , Denison- HomeOn September 4. the campus atmosophere will be fantastic! Allow me to buy you one, dreal! Go Zips!!!DING-DING-DING!!! Winner winner, chicken dinner NOT SO FAST THERE 84. I believe you just awarded my chicken dinner to a dupe who fell for your trick question. Akron has never had a football coach named Larsen. There was an student-athlete by that name back in the 60s/70s who played soccer and was on the swim team. If the contest had asked about Gordon Larson I would go with at Wittenburg and Denison, but since it asked about Larsen I am going to be forced to correctly answer cannot be determined until we hire a coach by that name.
  2. Guns in the locker room won't do anything to level the playing field. If you want to make games more competitive, the rules should be altered to allow an underdog to commit a prescribed number of penalties with no punishment. I will leave it to you to determine how the exact number of waived penalties should be determined (perhaps based on point spread) and when a penalty should be enforced, but it seems obvious to me we could win a lot of games against BCS teams if we could clip a dozen or so of their players, most of them fairly early in the game. Plus this would be happening to the better teams week after week. By the end of a season parity in D1 football should be much better than anything previously suggested in this thread.
  3. As far as invitations to preseason tournaments and all that. I am unable to find any rule officially giving the NIT champion a spot in next years preseason tournament. However neither of the 2009 NIT finalists (Baylor and Penn State) went to this years preseason tournament. In fact, none of the four semi-finalists (Notre Dame and San Diego State) appeared in this seasons tournament. I find it hard to believe that all 4 of these teams would turn down the chance to play in the preseason tipoff. Look, I'm not saying the NIT hasn't been beneficial to the Zips in the past. And I am not going to completely write off this team if we don't make the NCAAs. Am I going to watch if we go to the NIT instead? Probably. But I'm not going to be into it the way I would be the NCAAs. There isn't much of anything to get excited about. The Zips have been there, they've won there. I suppose getting to the semifinals or the championship game would be a little more exciting, but I honestly don't think it would even hold a candle to another NCAA berth. Don't even get me started on the CBI.I believe with the appropriate amount of cash for the entry fee, the loser of Friday's game is a shoe in for the CBI.
  4. This is MAC basketball, if that's not interesting then you should leave the forum for lack of purpose for existence.Go to Can't you buffoon.ouch
  5. I know that folks here don't agree, but being in the top 100 means a lot.If we beat K-ent, and somehow lose the tournament by a shot at the buzzer, we do have a shot at the Dance, and at least the NIT.And I would rather win the NIT than go one and done in the NCAA. Not that it's going to happen.Pass the mushrooms dude
  6. This would be even more interesting if you also included rifle and club baseball records.
  7. Actually, I believe you should have written "I think it should be ..." rather than "I think it would be..."In either case, the sentence is incomplete as you do not specify why it is important to would (or should). For example, it would improve your sentence to state, "Actually, it would enhance the grammatical correctness of your sentence if it stated, "you make yourself look MORE AND MORE DUMB with every post."or"Actually, to enhance the grammatical correctness of your sentence it should be written as "you make yourself look MORE AND MORE DUMB with every post."
  8. I must be reading something different than you. The gozips article says nothing about Benjamin getting an invite to NCAA's. That article is about all conference in the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) and the NCAA website does not have her listed as an individual qualifier. Where are you getting this information?Answer: Thin air.I tried to tell you this was one bunch of wild shooters at the beginning of the season. The only way the team was going to make it to Nationals this year was if the NCAA started a new category: "shotguns and the broad side of a barn."
  9. That 17% was for a single season.I thought the 17% number seemed strange. I know too many guys who graduated for it to be true.Once again, Faust reigns as the tallest midget. You guys have no idea how strange it is to type those words or even to take the thought serioiusly.Speaking of Faust, did anyone see the absolutely great 30-30 on ESPN about Miami FL football? It's amazing to me Faust actually coached on the same field against J. Johnson. That 30-30 was great in so many ways. Miami really changed college football in many good and bad ways.My favorite part was when the media complained about Miami destroying other teams and they never once complained when Oklahoma, Texas, Notre Dame were beating teams 50-0.I watched this program and I agree it was excellent. I have always used the U of Miami as the great example of how it is POSSIBLE for a college football program's fortunes to change dramatically over a relatively short time period. Before Howard became the coach, UM was no better (arguably worse) than San Diego State. They came REALLY close to simply dropping football, just like their in-state brothers at the University of Tampa (John Matuszak played there, the Spartans beat K.E.N.T. in the '72 Tangerine Bowl after their only MAC championship) did. While I enjoyed the point you mentioned (the double standard applied to the "urban" school), my favorite part was where it was claimed (hard to know how accurate this is) that the Miami Dolphins' players used to want to "hang" with the Hurricanes because the latter apparently had more "cred" in the local community.Have you ever been to Coral Gables? The UM campus? If so, you and I have entirely different ideas about what constitutes an urban school.
  10. If he comes to UA, we get a Parade All-American. If he doesn't. it didn't cost us squat. If I'm in Vegas and I have a 50/00 chance to win $1million dollars. And there's absolutely no risk...I simply need to say "I accept the gamble"...ummmmm...I take that bet.If you use Brookhart's player retention as an example, you are really, really grasping for straws. Brookhart based two full recruiting classes on kids like Howard. Ianello is basing one single scholarship out of 23 on an at-risk kid.I'm betting there is a 20/80 chance you meant to say 50/50.
  11. Really......in what sport did the Raiders win back to back national championships (be sure to do some research before you respond)? That is some awesome Raiders knowledge Zipmeister. What is your favorite Vitaly Nikolaevich Potapenko (Віталій Миколайович Потапенко for those Ukrainians from the Soviet Socialist Republic) memory from his WSU career? The Ukraine Train is a living legend in Fairborn. I infer from your nonresponse that you are now willing to admit that Wright State never won back to back national championships in any sport. They did have better luck in the Division II men's basketball championship game in 1983 than the Zips did in either 1964 or 1972.In his first game at the Nutter Center I openly questioned how in the world Ralph got V to to sign with Wright State; it was REAL obvious that he was WAY TOO good to be playing with the Raiders, and I was correct. Hence, the departure after 2 seasons as a 1st round NBA selection.

  13. It's in the off topic section. We could always use more off-topic discussions.LMFAO! Somehow, I have managed to miss out on some REALLY meaningful discussion on this board. Just today I have come across the great debate on whether football (i.e., "soccer" as Americans call it) is a major sport. There aren't enough in this single universe to express my thoughts on that topic! And now we come to (drum roll, please!) the Great Battle Between Teabaggers and (right-wing) Libertarians. As a founding member of the Hawai'i Green Party, allow me to display my deep hope that Libertarian Anti-Life murderers, and Tea Party Anti-Choice hystericals will come to the mutual conclusion that it is the national Republican Party which seeks to coopt your wise and courageous patriotism, and immediately begin setting up your own party apparatus for the fall, and all succeding election seasons. That will ensure your crazy ideas don't become even more united to the already extreme agenda of the "mainstream" right-wing party in the USA. In any case, best of luck to you -- but I'm willing to bet your parties together won't gain half the votes earned by Ralph Nader in even 2008. Other than that, my sentiments range toward the following send off to your fortunes: Now, as my football (i.e., "soccer" to the haters) crazed friend, 72 Roo would say to my comrade from Wadsworth, of the same name GO ZIPS!BTW '72 -- let's go throw some stones and down some pints! Z.I.P. .... I think we are experiencing the meltdown of this board when the moderators let politics take over. Personally, I am supporting the beer party whose slogun is a beer at every game. Come to think of it it may be "A beer every hour". That being said my political views will stay with me, but my Zip views will be shared with anyone who will listen. I stand for a NCAA championship in soccer and a football team that our opponents not only fear but respect. My platform includes high hopes for lady Zip basketball, men's basketball, lady soccer, track, ladies tennis, softball and rifle. I claim ignorance at how the other sports will perform, but right now I don't care.So where are you buying? You and I are so much alike. My hope is to see all the ladies in basketball, soccer, track, tennis softball and rifle in high platform shoes.
  14. Is he related to Leonard Paul?
  15. Having observed the moon on numerous occasions I can tell you that it is also round and no bigger than a nickle (I can completely block it out of view with my thumb.
  16. I'm sorry man, but beating Austin Peay and EMU wouldn't have done crap for us this year. Not a damn thing. Did losing to them suck? Yeah, from a fans point of view it did. But from an overall perspective looking at RPI's, at-large bids, tournament seeding, etc. It didn't mean much at all. Maybe we are in the top-100 RPI at this point but that is about it. We are still in the same place we are now. The only thing we are "in the driver's seat" for is the 1 seed in the MAC tourney based on having one more conference win than Can't. This RPI stuff isn't about the MAC. This is about the NCAA's. The Selection Committee isn't going to care one bit about wins over Austin Peay and EMU when it comes to at-large bids. At worst maybe those losses move us down one seed if we can win the conference tourney.I actually agree with you on a lot of these other points. I still have no idea why we have started the season the last couple years with walkons getting so many major minutes. It does nothing for us. I also believe that going Miami style with the scheduling is probably not in the Zips best interest. I am still not quite sure what to make of McNees. I am of the impression that he is neither as bad as some on here make him out to be nor as good as others make him out to be. I am however concerned about our over all guard play.Quick and Dave are like the Welcome Wagon folks working a deaf neighborhood. You can knock on the door all day long, but the folks who can't hear ain't coming to the door.
  17. Yeah, but you should have included the whole quote:Blackburn: "Definitely - I still am. I'm a normal fan when I watch football. I wish I would have been able to go to Ohio State, but things worked out the way they did going to Akron, which I have no complaints about. It was a great school and a great fit for me. Who knows what would have happened if I went to Ohio State?"That puts it in a much different light - plus the guy grew up right outside of Columbus. This is the quote that really confused me:Q: How did you end up at Akron?Blackburn: "I got recruited by a lot of MAC schools. I got offered a couple of scholarships from MAC schools. I went to Akron for a visit and it was a good time. They showed me around the campus and they had won the MAC championship the year before ...I noticed that also. Perhaps Chase was on prescription medication at the time, or got hold of some bad mushroom soup, or somebody lied to him and he never took the time to check it out.
  18. And therein lies a problem because if Can't was so superior to us, they would certainly have a much better conference record. After all, we play the exact same teams! So it does not really take into account the success or failure against league opponents later in the season, when some teams play better (especially young teams that don't have prior years together) and some teams fall apart.Might as well quite ringing the bell Dave....nobody is home.
  19. I'm uncertain whether it will apply for the remainder of the season, but it does not appear it was applicable for the games you listed.
  20. Great win for the Zips. Two main reasons:1. MU goes 0 for 15 from behind the arc.2. As UAkronkid pointed out, the redbirds were more afraid of the refs than us.
  21. Never has more wisdom been shared on this board. I have always asserted that the team that is most afraid of the refs will lose.
  22. ESPN is showing the Can't/Ohio game as a final at 36-34 Can't!!Got to admit it made me look. may be an error since, according to them, the second half was tied at 0-0.
  23. True. He did well for having such a short time frame to work with. What I wonder is, If you take away one guy -- who is very unlikely to play next season, and may never show at all -- do we fall from 3rd to 10th?I have a related concern. If Akron's class (which one would be hard pressed to classify as outstanding) is 3rd in the MAC, what does that say about the direction of the conference.
  24. I'm anticipating a change from the normal close games in Oxfordland. I'll go with the Zips by 14.
  25. hey it took us 2 timeouts to draw up that play!!! haha if KD took a 3rd timeout brett would have made that shotthat's what bothers me. two timeouts to draw up....nothing.If I didn't know better, I'd swear instead of eating cookies and jam during the timeouts those rascally Ohio Bobkittens were scheming how to stop us from doing what we wanted!!!!It's easy to stop when there was no attempt of even running a play by the Zips. Did you even watch the game? Not through rose colored glasses like some folks apparently did.
