  1. You should write up a testament to the NCAA. How's the luckiest women in the world holding up?
  2. In 1974 men's soccer was in D1, all other sports were in D2.
  3. I thought he was the change the name of the University guy.
  4. “The Battle of Copenhagen” Ten thousand Swedes ran through the weeds, chased by one Norwegian. Ten thousand more ran to the shore in the battle of Copenhagen. Way, way back in history, back when the world was new, norwegian searched all over, to find some snoose to chew. They fished for Lutefisk and Torsk, it helped to make them strong, and you and me, we know a Norsk, cannot do nothing wrong. But swedes and danes were envious of Viking trips and raids. The Viking shields and helmet horns, made all those folks afraid. Throughout the world the Vikings sailed, to Ireland and to France. The even found America, one afternoon by chance. My grandpa says, and he should know, the swedes made up the minds. To beat the Norsky Vikings, and kick a few behinds. But history, so grandpa says, show that the Norskies won. They clobbered all the swedes and danes, and made it lots of fun. Ten thousand swedes ran through the weeds, chased by one norwegian. The dust from the weeds, made snoose for the swedes, and they called it Copenhagen, E. C. Stangland
  5. All the big schools have to do is cite COVID 19 as the reason for the cancellation and they are off scot-free, nada, zero payout. And they will be too busy funding an extra set of free weights for their weight room, another throwback uniform for their team, or air-conditioned tackling dummies to be sending money to some school to which they have no contractual obligation.
  6. If the big schools cut out what would normally be 'money' games for programs like Akron it will decrease the payouts to those smaller schools to zero.
  7. Latest rumor I heard is the BIG may drop all non-conference football games and play an abbreviated schedule in the spring. No clue if this is a possibility, but could be interesting if the other P5 schools follow suit.
  8. I think we should offer this kid. If he can make palm trees grow in Missouri, think what he could do for Akron in November. Plus if this is a recent event and he was in the 2014 high school class he has to be around 23 years old and much more experienced than your typical freshman .
  9. There weren't too many sophomores on the 68 JV team.

Did you play goalie and is your first name John?

I did play some goalie when Jack Mercer found we would be short at that position, but mostly I played in the field at MF or outside back. My name is not John. Did you play?

  10. I think he is either looking for an area with wonderful water or mountain views (FIU, HAW, PORT, MONT) or a Sagarin rating less than 150 (AKRON).
  11. Gordon would have been mildly perturbed that you have turned him into a Norwegian.
  12. I could have sworn Solomon was the QB; oh well another brain cell shot to hell. They may have hit Vargo hard, but they (and everyone else) NEVER tackled him for a loss. I witnessed the game sitting just above the first "s" in "classics" in the opening photo of the attachment.
  13. What years were you on the soccer team?

Sorry, didn't see this post. yes I remember at Jim Larsen. I believe he played as an outside back and had a good set of wheels.

The next to last line of defense; Paul Rockwood at left full and the tall skinny guy, Larsen, at right full.

Would really like to communicate more directly with you.

Jim, my name is Steve Reymann. I remember playing with Rocky and have spoken with him several years ago. Last I heard he was coaching for Cincinnati United Premier (CUP). His son recently enrolled at Hope College in Michigan.

It's a pleasure to hear from you. I have fond memories of that '68 JV team. We has a lot of fun. You were a strong member of a good defense. I hope life has continued to be good for you.

      Go Zips!

  14. My nomination for snappy comeback of the year on ZipsNation.
  15. Burn by the hall monitor.
  16. I have never heard of the Power 6 before. What conferences comprise it?
  17. I'm also positive that you are proof that some blowhards are overly sensitive jerks that think they know what other people want.
  18. Burn from the hall monitor!
  19. one of many: University of Tampa comes to Akron as a huge favorite with future NFL players Freddie Solomon at QB and Leon McQuay at RB. It was a fire marshal special - around 40,000 in attendance. Akron kicks off, Tampa bobbles the kick and gets tackled at their own 4 yard line. First play from scrimmage, they fumble and Akron recovers at the 4 yard line. Akron runs it into the end zone on their first play. Final score: Zips 40 - Tampa 0. Later that year Tampa announces they are dropping football. Ah those were good times.
  20. An interesting story I missed in 2018 about a lefty. https://www.beaconjournal.com/akron/sports/leonard-pauls-decision-to-spurn-pistons-for-hometown-cavaliers-likely-cost-him-spot-in-nba-in-1973
  21. I'm recommending he grow at least 3 inches..
  22. Three thoughts as I sit here at home sheltered in place . Marshall looks like a good get. The music department should try and sign whoever composed the musical score to his highlight tape. After watching his tape, I recommend watching the guy in the yellow suit - very entertaining..
  23. Very negative? Did you read the first 9 words and last sentence of my post? The rest is just (unpleasant) facts.
  24. The improvement in the ladies swim program is impressive, but most P5 (and all non-P5) schools have been, and will continue to be, unable to compete with the powerhouses in women's college swimming which has been dominated for the last 20 years by a half dozen schools. Stanford, Cal, Georgia, Auburn, Arizona and Florida are the haves; everyone else is the have-nots. There is a tremendous gap between the two groups. Akron's recent improvement has made them one of the better have-nots.
  25. So that's 3 different simulations that all have at least one thing in common; Tosu losing to the first team they play. Love it.
