As long as the rest of the world continues going to PKs as they are currently done, I'm totally against the NCAA doing otherwise. In fact, I would like to see the NCAA change its soccer rules to be more inline with FIFA rules. Perhaps not limiting subs to 3 per game, but at least limiting it to once a player comes out, the player cannot go back in for the remainder of the game. College baseball follows the same sub rule as pro baseball; I don't understand why college soccer cannot at least get closer to the FIFA rule. The only way that the USA is ever going to compete for a Mens World Cup is to do everything possible so that every level develops players for pro soccer, and that includes the NCAA.

#4 seed Maryland falls at home 0-1 vs UMBC. Nice seeding there by the NCAA. (#14 RPI = #4 seed, NOT).

I can't find that information either. But, I did find this from February 2014, following last year's tournament: http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/2014_MSOC_Annual_Meeting_Report_Final_0214_MS_kh.pdf 3. Review of 2013 Championship a. (1) Coaches’ and Site Representatives’ Evaluations. In review of the surveys From coaches and site representatives, the committee noted the need to emphasize with potential hosts the minimum facility requirements, particularly a secure barrier separating spectators from field. Hosts must be reminded that failure to adhere to such policies may disqualify them from hosting NCAA men’s soccer championship matches for a period of time. b. Misconducts. The committee issued a public reprimand to the University of Akron for a student-athlete assaulting an official. The imposed penalties consisted of a suspension for the next two championship games and the loss of per diem and transportation. These penalties were in addition to the playing-rules penalty of a loss of the first three regular-season matches. The committee also issued a public reprimand to Akron for an assistant coach verbally assaulting the same official, and a lack of sportsmanship and control of staff stemming from the same incident. Additionally, the committee fined another institution for failure to follow policies and procedures. I wonder if either of these were used against us. If item a. (1) is an issue, they need to inform our AD. As far as item b, I, unfortunately, read that as Victor will be out of the first NCAA Tournament game next season.

I don't think so. i think most of it is backroom deals by those on the committee. I think the B1G and other power conferences trade for positions. Also, I think BGSU may have had the MAC rep on the Soccer committee. If that was the case, I'm not sure how helpful that person would have been for the Zips.

Adam would not be a draftee. He would be a NYRB Home Grown. So, if that list is only projections for the draft (not those potentially going pro), he would not be included. The first game in which I saw Adam play was against Chad and Will (NY Red Bulls Reserves vs Crew Reserve in Columbus). He was committed to Akron, but it was the summer before the fall in which he joined the Zips. I want Adam to be successful and go professional, but not yet. Given where they are this season, I hope the NYRB decide to wait at least another season on Adam. With MLS salaries where they are, I'd also like to see Adam get his degree or at least get closer to it. -

Jared has a 3-year contract. I don't see winning the MACx2 and getting to the NCAA Tournament without Seremba, without Victor for the first 3 games and with all the freshmen on this team, and not returning. Thinking otherwise is expectations too high. With that said, the coaching staff not only needs to recruit, but to look at the deficiencies of this team's play. The Zips don't widen the field like they should. They don't have a good crossing game into the box. They seem to be afraid to shoot at times unless they're two feet or less from the goal. Numerous times, including tonight, we've been 1-on-1 with the GK but can't get the ball up over him. And the one that drives me insane is that they cause a lot of their own problems in front of their own goal. They go back to Jake at times when they shouldn't putting pressure on him and then he makes a bad kick upfield, sends it right to an opposing player, or sends it out of bounds. You would think after seeing that enough times on film and going through it that it would not happen so often late in the season. The Zips also could use some speed. Please, someone take a recruiting trip to Jamaica and find us another Darren Mattocks.

Disagree for a number of reasons (some listed below from GoZips.com), but I guess you're welcome to your own opinion. Zips have a lot of Freshman who have developed over this season & found a way to get into the NCAA Tournament. They deserved a home game, but the NCAA only talks about fairness and integrity; they don't actually follow their creed. When postseason play begins, the Zips will join an elite group of just six Division I programs that have qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of the past eight seasons. Only Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, UCLA, and Virginia can share that claim. Akron freshmen Richie Laryea and Bryce Cregan (Dallastown, Pa.) were recently recognized by TopDrawerSoccer.com as part of its national rankings of the top 100 freshmen in the country at the midpoint of the 2014 campaign. Laryea was tabbed at No. 26, while Cregan checked in at No. 72 in the rankings. Defending MAC champion Akron opened 2014 conference play at Bowling Green. Since 1998, the Zips have won 10 conference crowns [1998, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013], as well as 17 regular-season MAC titles. UA has made 28 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the College Cup three times [1986, 2009, 2010], and the national championship game twice [2009, 2010]. Akron won the 2010 national championship. Four Akron Zips were nominated for the 2014 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.30 or better and be a starter or significant reserve. Representing the Zips are goalkeeper Jake Fenlason, midfielder Adam Najem, defender Brad Ruhaak (Akron, Ohio), and defender Andrew Sounders. ...

Final RPI - Akron #23 Ohio State #29

I was there (1 of the 984); so, not embarrassed. -
One game at a time; Zips have to beat tOSU first, but on the subject of Zips midfield, I think we have an additional concern. Richie Laryea is sitting on a total of 7 yellow cards. 1 more and he reaches the 8 for the post season and will be out another game. I would hate to face ND without Souto and Laryea. https://www.ncaapublications.com/p-4320-2014-and-2015-soccer-rules.aspx 12.11.2 Postseason Games. Caution accumulation will carry over into postseason play, which includes conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament. Players or coaches participating in postseason play will receive a one-game suspension when a total of eight cautions have been accumulated. Further, each three additional cautions shall result in additional one-game Suspension. Moreover, if the total is reached in the final postseason game of the season, the player(s), coach(es) or bench personnel shall not participate in the first scheduled game(s) of the next season.

The NCAA Selection Committees are owned by the B1G. #14 RPI Maryland gets the #4 seed while #4 RPI Providence gets the #11 seed. If they wanted a team in the east in the top 4 seeds, it certainly should have been Providence. If this was basketball, the media would be raising all kinds of hell over this bracket.

Very nice article on Adam Najem

Yes, Adam, please stay at least another year. -
Klinsmann reveals the main reason why Yedlin will succeed at Tottenham ...“He’s a very rare and a very special kid,” he told Sky Sports News HQ. “He’s obviously very energetic, technically-gifted and fast, but most importantly he’s a quick learner. “He’s a sponge. He will come here with Pochettino and say, ‘Tell me and I’ll try it.’ “Of course, it will take time. It will take time for him to break through here, to adjust and pick up the pace of the Premier League, but he can do it.”...

@TennZip thanks for posting. I first saw Adam play in an MLS Reserves game, NYRB Reserves vs Crew Reserves at Crew Stadium. Adam played against Chad and Wil. Fun seeing the then soon-to-be Zip vs Zips Alumni. Crew Reserves won 2-0 if I remember correctly. At any rate, Adam deserves more accolades than he receives, but I'm confident he'll be a pro someday. Perhaps Caleb Porter can trade for another NYRB HG's rights. He couldn't get Wil Trapp from the Crew, but maybe he can get Adam. Or, perhaps the NYRB will do it right with Adam. -
Hopefully you'll still feel that way when you return. Given the exhibition play/result Monday night, I'm not so sure Charleston is a better place to be.
