Columbus Crew's Wil Trapp admits to getting "goosebumps" when hearing praise from Thierry Henry ...“It’s a great honor to hear that from one of the greatest players to ever play the game,” he said. “To single me out for a game I played, it’s pretty awesome. Obviously, it makes you feel good. But so many guys played well; everyone played well. It’s not even fair to single out one player.” ...“He’s obviously a great student of the game, and when he speaks you should listen because he has a great understanding of the game,” Trapp said. ...“You get goosebumps,” he said. “To hear one of your role models and idols growing up say that about you is fantastic.”

High praise for Wil from Thierry Henry after the Crew defeated the NY Red Bulls yesterday. “Wil Trapp was outstanding today,” Henry said. “I know (Federico) Higuain usually gets all the (credit), their striker will get (some too) I’m sure because he scored two goals, and (Ethan) Finlay wasn’t bad either, but Wil Trapp is the key of that team. “Today, he was giving the tempo of the team, bringing the ball out from the back, Higuain doesn’t have to drop and get the ball, he will get it in a good position because Wil Trapp does his job. Difficult to stop. He has, hopefully for him, a good future. As Americans, you should be happy. “Today I thought he was the difference.”

Clint did an awesome job stabilizing the defense. Kudos to the team for maintaining composure and coming back in the face of adversity. Also, a huge THANK YOU to Jesse Garcia-Aguilar for preserving the 3-2 lead/win with that clearance in goal with about 1:15 to go in the match.

If no profanity or threatening type argument occurred, there should have been no ejection. From your description, I really don't know enough about what occurred to take sides. As far as the chants, the match last night was streamed nationally. The university has a right to tell the Rowdies which chants cannot be sung to maintain a good image. It's no different than the announcement they make that any fan can be removed for using profanity or threatening language. The Rowdies are awesome...great support of our team last night and throughout this season. I'm not a university official, but I am an alumnus and fan. Please understand the Rowdies represent us all, and they do it well. Have fun, but realize that there has to be some restraint to ensure our image is properly projected.

I believe Andrew will return for the Western Michigan game. It's nice the Zips have 8 days until their next match, and the next 2 are still at home.

Thanks (but no guarantee for short term). Perhaps I can put away my pitchfork; perhaps not. EDIT: BTW, note they are discussing sharing a training facility, not Crew Stadium. My only argument is and has always been not to use FES-CCF.

The Cleveland Browns could ruin our soccer pitch
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Nice. However, I'll still be monitoring this. While the Crew and Browns may have long term plans, I don't see this precluding the Browns from coming to UA for a short term stint if UA were interested. (Until I definitively hear there is no chance, I won't give up the mantra that I have no problem with the Browns coming to UA, even for a short while, but DON"T practice in FES-CCF.) Along with the unveiling of the #NewCrew, Anthony Precourt confirmed Columbus Crew SC and the Cleveland Browns have had talks regarding sharing a training facility. Crew SC are in need of a new training facility to continue the push towards becoming a world class club, and the Browns are in search of some new digs for training camp. That’s enough common ground to finding a solution that would benefit both sides. Back in September, Tom Reed wrote of the possibility that the Browns may head down I-71 as a possible site for training camp, and Precourt’s comments at the #NewCrew launch event confirmed that discussions between Crew SC and the Browns are ongoing. Reed wrote back in September of the battleground for NFL franchises that Central Ohio has become with the Browns, Bengals, Colts, Lions, and Steelers all within a reasonable drive of Columbus. Moving training camp to Columbus would give the Browns an inroad to an emerging metropolitan area that is diversifying in its NFL fanhood. “The Browns are talking to a lot of people and we’re certainly having conversations,” he said. “We want to have conversations with everyone. I don’t know where it’s going yet, but yeah, we’re having conversations.” As someone with family and friends in Columbus, who feels a connection to both the state’s capital and the C-L-E, the idea of meshing together sports franchises is mouth wateringly appetizing. Imagine sending the Cavaliers to play five home games a year at Nationwide Arena and the Blue Jackets coming up north to play five home games at Quicken Loans Arena. All of those games are for sure sellouts. Who doesn’t win in that situation? -
Soccer is one sport in which The University of Akron competes well with all D1 foes. That is the reason why I feel so strongly that the university should not take a chance on letting any other sport utilize FES-CCF. Find other options but don't unduly risk damaging a very successful program. BTW, attendance was good, especially given the weather forecast. It's fun to watch our Zips beat the B1G.

I know the score differential wasn't as large, but the 2-1 win over Michigan in the 2010 College Cup semifinal on the way to the National Championship was huge! EDIT: If I remember correctly, this was in the same season as the 7-1 win. Not bad, 9-2 total vs UM that season.

Marketing SUCKS worse than Can't State. At least Can't State exists (for whatever reason the world will never know), but UA athletics marketing became extinct 2 or 3 AD's ago.

USA vs Ecuador player grades from ESPNFC M DeAndre Yedlin, 8.5 -- The best U.S. player all night. Provided the assist on Mix Diskerud's goal, and was active and clever going forward, which he did often from his right midfield spot. Defensively sound, too. DeAndre will also be with the USMNT vs Honduras Tuesday night October 14th.

Oct. 14 - next home game against Michigan
Zip_ME87 replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Perhaps. While it is not a scenario that I would promote, it is possible to win the MAC Tournament without hosting it. EDIT: BGSU is about 140 miles from Akron. Is anyone going? Unfortunately, I cannot this year as I have a family commitment that evening. I sure was happy to be there in 2010 rather than watching iCoach kick off at the beginning of both halves and go on to lose to FCS powerhouse Gardner Webb. -
Zips made a costly mistake and couldn't find the equalizer. Richie was 1 on 1 with the Sparty GK in the penalty area and couldn't get the ball over the keeper's foot. Best opportunity. Should have scored on that one, but there were others. One of those games where the Zips just couldn't finish. Time to forget and move on. Conference play, which is crucial, starts Saturday.

If I read the article correctly, his complaint is that they left early. Not that they didn't show up. Perhaps they were cold, tired, tipsy, etc. and figured the game was in hand...so they left. I'd be happy if our student section was filled for 3 quarters. I don't blame anyone for being too cold and tired after sitting out there for a time, especially if the game started at 8 pm.

Interesting perspective. Yet, in another thread, you got all p.o.'d about my going off on the Cleveland Browns. NFL (Nab the Fans Loot) billionaire owners and millionaire players who take great care of their fans, shaking them down weekly. It will be interesting to see if attendance figures change with the FCC ending the blackout rules.

Gotta go down to Cincinnati and bring back one of these.

At least they had a crowd of students early in the game. Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio and a few Spartans players said they noticed the evaporating crowd during the fourth quarter. The noise decreased, they said, during Nebraska's late comeback bid.

Courtesy flush removed iCoach at the end of the 2011 season. However, a single flush wasn't powerful enough to pull down the top of the dung pile with it. He's switched to the fabreeze that someone else handed him to cover himself ever since.

Sorry. I misunderstood what you meant by that.

CK, (edit) most of this may be true, yet you come to games. I come to games. Balsy attends games. Dr Z is there. ...etc. After a couple of games with iCoach, I quit coming because I couldn't stand it for myself or the players. (edit: Just looking at iCoach or TW made me almost pop a blood vessel. I quickly recognized it wasn't good for my health.) I still bought season tickets to support my team. It sucked to spend money and not be there, but I knew one day someone would iCoach. I had the pride to support the program. Students get in free. Come to a game if you're not working. If it sucks, leave. But show some damn pride in your school. Winning takes effort of those on the field, but it also takes effort of those who attend and have graduated from Akron to support their team. EDIT: Attending football games is also a way to make new friends and contacts. I would think that college students who are looking to graduate one day and start their careers would be interested in networking.
-
In that case, I understand the lack of student attendance. I think there were about 6 peolpe "sitting" in the grass and perhaps 20 standing across the end zone. I really don't see that making much of a difference in the student section, which btw, is multiple sections (10, I think counting, upper & lower)

See you there Nate. BeatSparty!

Soccer | Crew: Players double as volunteers Lampson, Trapp lend hand as coaches at alma maters EDIT: Hopefully, with Wil volunteering at his alma mater, Gahanna Lincoln HS will feed the Zips some more Wil Trapps and Saad Abdul-Salaams.
