  1. Negative talk on this board? You make it sound like it is a crime for wanting more.......no expecting more, because that is what we should be doing. Sounds like you want us to sugar coat things. We both want success but you can't get there unless you acknowledge your weaknesses and mistakes. We wanna be big time you gotta act big time, expect big time, but at the very least you should minimize mistake, no holdings, dropped passes, redundant screens, etc. These are all easy fixes!!!!!I remember when Bill Snyder Kansas State's head coach at the time, came into our locker room after we just got our heads kicked in by his team, said that they were once where we are, and to stick to doing the right things, work hard, and not just believe but know you are better than your opponent, don't EVER settle for less.If you are used to a Faust 1-11 season a L.O. 2-10 season saying 7-5 is great is settling, it's settling for good when you should strive to be great. Saying stuff like *in a mopey voice* "Well we were 3-2 at half with OSU and barely lost to Temple, Buffalo, Miami, and Central. We could be 8-4!!Could be 8-4 don't sell tickets, get better recruits, or go to bowl games!!! The teams 8-4 or better like OSU, Indiana, UConn, Central ya know the teams we lost to?!! Go to bowl games, get better recruits, and don't have to fudge ticket sale numbers to keep D1 status. Teams like Louisville, Kansas St. Boise St., Hawaii, stop settling. Like we should too.Actually at many of the major schools, if a coach has too many 8-4 or 9-3 seasons he will be fired.I don't think anyone is asking for a NC or even a top 20 team. We are merely asking for a respectable and entertaining team to watch. We are aksing for a team that consistently beats the teams they should beat. Yes, there are upsets. However, there isn't usually 4-5 the same season. Once that happens, they aren't upsets. Here at Akron most of us would be happy with 8-4 and crazy about 9-3. I don't think that being negative because we aren't even a 500 team is a bad thing unless you are used to losing and accept it.We finished 2005 at 7-6 after the bowl game. Everyone called that a great year for Akron.........Talk aboiut being happy with mediocrity. If any national powers had consecutive 7-6 seasons, the coach would be gone in a heartbeat. Here at Akron we are happy about it.7-6 should be a down year/rebuilding year at UA. Not a good year. I couldn't believe early in the year when people called this a rebuilding year. What?????????????????????????????????? Did we go 8-4 or better last year? Did we win the MAC?How can you have a rebuilding year after a year that you were not very good? That is a losers mentality. We really need to change that. I am not calling for JD's head. He is a young coach that I think is learning on the job. Many great coaches took more than 5 years before they started winning. To call out posters and say they are being negative is absurd. If you want to see negative, go to other teams boards that are whining because they only beat a team by 21 points when they think it should have been more. Or they lose one game and are calling for a coordinators head. Not all negative talk is bad. Some of it is reality.THANK YOU "Ryno aka Menace" and "Buckzip". It is not negative talk to want and expect more...especially more than finishing 3rd from last in the MAC. (Where does that put us nationally?...below 100, I'm sure.)
  2. 3rd worst team in the MAC...looks like the program is headed in the right direction...NOTSorry, but my expectations are definitely higher than this.
  3. Whose 7 players did he dismiss? Who recruited them? Part of being a good football coach is good recruiting.I'm not saying JD should be fired. But, he certainly deserves scrutiny.
  4. I'd like to hear more. What luck? What so-so play calling brough us back from 20 points down in the fourth quarter? Please expand.I would challenge you to find any other season in the history of the MAC (prior to these stupid divisional games rules) when a team went 5-3 in the conference and won the championship. Heck JD's predecessor got fired for going 5-3 in the MAC. We had a three way tie at the top of the East and because of some third tier tie breaker got in. We depended on the failures of other teams and a few back of the books rules. In a court of law, if the Zips were charged with Championship by luck in 2005, it'd be pretty hard to acquit. JD's regime has some very scary parallels to the Faust era. Some early success with the previous coaches recruits, he goes out and recruits a bunch of thugs who can't find their way to the classroom, our graduation rate plummets, and the program sinks further than it was before. JD is actually pretty good friends with Faust and consults with him often. How ironic .I agree. Maybe that is the problem...JD relies on Faust too much. I also think it's pathetic that we are so use to losing at UA that going 5-3 in the MAC (6-5 overall) and winning the MACC is looked upon as greatness. Yes, I understand that UA never won any titles in football in 100+ years prior. But, why are schools like Miami, Ohio, Toledo able to find a way to win 8+ games from time to time, and Akron never can? Why can a school like YSU find an OHIO coach who wins them several national championships and then, when he moves on, remembers them with sizable monetary contributions? I think we need to set our standards and expectations a little higher.
  5. They make me shiver! I'm sure it's just gorgeous up there a day or two each year but ... NO THANKS!Thanks for passing along the pics!Actually, I was there in July a few years ago...it was 90 degrees with swarms of mosquitoes (AK state bird).Great pics, especially the Zips ice sculpture.
  6. CK -Unfortunately, I think Hakes may have been a bust even if he were still at Akron. He was replaced as the starter at Orange Coast College several weeks ago. Numerous interceptions and a totally anemic offense. I like Sean a lot, like you like Moorehead. But not looking good as a college QB.
  7. sgm405-You are entitled to your opinion, and I respect your opinion. But no matter how many statistics you quote, you are still only expressing an opinion. Nothing is as black and white, straightforward as you profess so many things to be. As you mature, you will see there is a lot more gray in the world than you ever realized.Charlie no longer plays for any of your teams. Let it rest.
  8. sgm405-As someone who has never attacked you, I'm glad that you feel better. As for me, I feel worse. It's not enough to listen to Cleveland media bash Charlie/UA, now I have to listen to someone from UA do it as well. THANKS.
  9. I like being the underdog. Makes it more fun when we win.every day, EVERY MINUTE, every picosecond...
  10. I wholeheartedly agree. And as always...
  11. 1. The defense really misses John Mackey, his leadership is irreplaceable. 2. If a team we play has a quarterback that can run even a little bit we have problems.3. The defense can't stop the run.I am not done with this team as some are already, I am being upbeat about this season, I think we still have an outside shot we just need some help and in this conference we may very well get it. Remember college football as a whole has been turned upside down. Temple and Buffalo win and LSU and CAL lose, completly upside down. BOston College and South Florida top 3 teams in the country????? Alot can happen when u have 5 games left and they are all conference games.I blame the offense moreso than the defense. Make the first down, and the Zips could have run out the clock. (I think Temple only had 1 remaining timeout.)I agree as well the offense is the majority of our problems but obviously they aren't gonna win any games for us so the defense is gonna have to do it. If our D could of put 1 score on the board we win despite our talented nonproductive offense. It's a shame it is that way but until our QB looks at more than 1 receiver we will not win games. It's not just the QB. It's the play calling. Very first play of the game was a backward screen pass that had DISASTER written all over it. The Zips were lucky to have just lost a couple of yards on that type of bonehead play. INSANITY - doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Those screen passes do NOT work, especially when they are backward...which can easily become a fumble!

  13. This is exactly how I feel. Our offensive coaches do not call a game that is suited to our players. I can understand if the first few games of the season look this way. But, by this time, they should know the strengths of this team and play to those strengths.
  14. I'm tired of our offensive play calling stinking up the field. I'm tired of playing offense to not lose rather than to win.I'm tired of having my heart ripped out!
  15. Nice summary Captain.I totally agree with your QB assessment. IT is there for CJ7, if he wants it. If he steps up to being the leader, on and off the field, this team could easily go 8 - 4 and possibly 9 -3.
  16. WKYC (Channel 3) started their 6 am news broadcast today with a stuffed Zippy sitting on the anchor desk and telling everyone to log in to CapitalOneBowl site and vote for Zippy. They also said they have the link on WKYC.com.They talked about Zippy yesterday as well. Has anyone else seen them mention this during their evening or other broadcasts?
  17. It may be a simple matter that Charlie is not a good NFL QB. But, it could also be a combination of many things such as...Charlie and teammates lost confidence in each otherThe coaches lost confidence in CharlieThe other Browns players needed a wake up call that the QB shake up provided..The Clowns have scored a lot of points in past games only to turn around and fizzle the following week. We'll see.
  18. I don't know. THe information that I posted was in an e-mail I received from the bands/music dept.
  19. This may have already been posted on here, but the band's new cd is in...The CDs have arrived! They are $15 + $2.50 each for shipping/handling for a total of $17.50 each. You can send your check or money order to:University BandsThe University of AkronAkron, OH 44325-1002
  20. Again, I thought you didn't care Captain. :)Anyway, I still wish him well even though he left Akron. I would have preferred that he stayed with the Zips, but sometimes change is necessary.
  21. I saw that article, too, Captain. But, I thought you didn't care.
  22. Me, too
  23. I fully support our QB's...Chris, Carlton, and Matt and those to come. I want to see them excel. I just don't fault Sean for doing what he felt he needed to do for himself.
  24. Those are my sentiments as well. From the few times I talked with Sean, he came across as a very respectful person. I don't believe he had anything against Akron. He just wanted to start and needed to do what he felt was right for himself. (Sometimes you do have to put yourself first in order to be successful.) I hope he does turn up in a D-I program next year and does well.
