Akron plays Can't State in the MAC Championship Final and I am ready to go. I want this game. I want it so badly. I will not sit down, I will not be quiet, and I will not allow the other side to deter me in any way. And I will do so knowing that thousands of Zips fans will have my back. When Can't State dunks, I will not quiet, but instead I will begin a LETS GO ZIPS cheer to get our players into an offensive rhythm. When we miss a shot I will not look dejected but instead I will be screaming DEFENSE at the top of my lungs to help my team. I will not be like the Can't State fans were tonight against Ball State, waiting for something good to happen before cheering. It's my duty as someone who cares about the Zips to help my team in any way I can and the best way I can is to stay noisy and keep their heads in the right place. We will not be deflated. After an M8.9 earthquake hit Japan last night, a Tsunami warning was issued for Hawaii and the entire West coach of the US. Hopefully all our newly-relocated soccer Zips and Alumni out there are getting to a safe spot since it is supposed to be hitting right around now. An 8.9 is unreal. It's like getting hit with a freaking asteroid. At least twice as powerful as the strongest nuke ever developed.

All I know for certain is that our FB team had better be smelling the blood in the water. If they needed any extra motivation to work twice as hard for what is almost the entire offseason, it's getting handed to them on a silver and red platter. Here is their chance to make improvements that they might not care enough to make if all they had to look forward to after their hard spring and summer work was a sound beating and a paycheck. That kind of work would pay off over the entire season, not just the first game.

Reno and Tressel are not the same. Reno is a guy who committed a minor offense and resigned in lieu of harming his organization. Tressel is a liar, cheat and a phony because he lied to his boss about a major NCAA violation, cheated by having players on the field who shouldn't have been there and a phony because he falsely portrays the image he is a clean cut guy. The differences between these two people are vastly different. One is a good man, the other is a liar, cheat and a phony. Reno admitted his guilt of contacting a recruit outside the allowed period by resigning, before anyone -media or otherwise- needed to investigate. Tressel admitted guilt of knowing about his players committing an act that he would get them suspended only after getting exposed by the media and keeping it under wraps long enough to collect himself a Sugar Bowl trophy, and then let his superiors hand out a weak punishment instead of resigning.

Guys like Tressel don't get fired. They "choose" to resign. So it would make perfect sense for him to be at the press conference if he was leaving.

What's all this about our schedule? Our non-conference schedule was in the top 3rd of the MAC when conference play began It was even above average nationally. Will people not be satisfied until we play Miami's schedule, tops in the country, every year? Ten road games against ranked teams with no break inbetween? What do you want? People keep saying that our schedule wasn't tough. It was tougher than most of the MAC's and more than half the country's. And it was supposed to be even tougher but MSU bailed on us. That's the complaining I'm hearing. And this year, at least, it's unfounded.

New offer - ATH Deaysean Rippy I wonder about Ianello's recruiting tactics. What's his angle? Recruit all the top prospects in the country who all have 20 BCS offers? Does he really think he can land these players? We saw last year that he started out offering a bunch of 4-star players offered by top BCS teams, and when he couldn't land any he moved on to offering players who had low-level BCS offers, and when he couldn't land any he moved on to offering players with MAC offers, and finally broke down and signed a class made up of players who had no offer but Akron. He's starting off the same way this year.

We have no patience. Can't we at least wait a year to see whether Dambrot's big plan with the new-look players works out? There's supposed to be high-major talent coming in at multiple positions. The kind needed to compete "beyond the MAC". Can't we wait and see how that looks? It's dumb to complain at this point. Right now we should be focused on cheering the team and current players to a MAC championship. We can worry about the other crap when the season's over.

Hopefully he gets fired so we can hire him as our next coach.

Who is it that's not satisfied? Us or the team? I can assure you that as frustrated as we are the team is 10x more at not winning the MAC. But its ultimately up to the players to win the big games, or at least not lose games they should win. But there are some things we can control. Things that do affect the team's performance. Things like crowd intensity. Remember how the Soccer stadium got renovated? It started with some fans going to the athletic department and coming up with a fund we could donate to, and when momentum picked up sponsors stepped in and helped things move forward faster than anticipated. This all happened before we saw blueprints or anything like that. We can do the same with the JAR. Show that we want change and are willing to do something about it, however little we might be able to do, with any luck a sponsor or two will step up and help. They might even just be waiting to see something specific without being the one to start it and risk not gaining support.

Want to help attendance? Join the club. I wonder if this is more effective than anything marketing is doing. It's certainly more effective that all that marketing isn't doing.
