  1. He went to a D-II school so he could play without sitting out a year. He went to Ashland, specifically, because it was the closest one to home that had a spot for him.
  2. Just have a little patience. It still hasn't sunk in for anybody that doesn't follow the Zips closely that we're better than a 1-11 team now. Everybody saw the Michigan game, but we only had one win at the time, and still had just one win for a few weeks following that and by the time we started winning late in the season the attention had shifted away. Put up a great performance against Penn State or Pitt this year, and follow it up with a win while there's still some residual spotlight on us, and you'll see recruits begin to commit earlier. Right now, it takes a lot of convincing from our coaches, and a lot of evidence has to be brought up to these kids before they come around to the notion that the program is on the upswing.
  3. Under Bowden, we've very rarely gotten players to commit early. The 2016 QB is an exception. In fact, Akron's recruiting classes are usually only half finished by national signing day.
  4. The Penn State game will kick off at noon and it will be on ESPN or ESPN2 and on ABC affiliates in Pennsylvania.
  5. Almondo Sewell does a somersault.
  6. Both Riley Grant and Brett Gravatt have transferred to Penn State.
  7. Has Tree officially earned back his extra year of eligibility? Like, approved by the NCAA?
  8. http://247sports.com/Recruitment/Richard-Dorvilus-30060/RecruitInterests According to this, he had offers from Baylor, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and more.
  9. https://twitter.com/JEdwar247/status/487683514301952001 Will play in 2014. Quite an impressive list of offers.
  10. The Cavs could really use a center, now.
  11. So long as he doesn't fall into the common trap of letting himself be pressured into switching to a different team by his friends, coaches, or extended family who just want bigger bragging rights at his expense, I believe he will.
  12. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/176671/jacob-harrison ESPN just updated their 2016 prospect rankings. Harrison has been upgraded to a 4-star QB, the 5th best dual-threat QB in the nation and a top-300 overall prospect. If everything holds, he will be the highest rated recruit in program history.
  13. Puerto Rico is a part of America. He could always go there, unless his probation forbade him from crossing state lines.
  14. I don't see how that would be an issue in this case.
  15. Interview with Tyler Shipman
  16. If you like the uniforms so much, you might as well follow them on Twitter. https://twitter.com/ZipsEquipment
  17. http://www.riddickandreynolds.com/2014/07/episode-149-mark-ennis-chuck-amato-lauren-austin/ He comes on at about the 38-minute mark. Well worth a listen.
  18. Student attendence won't be improving so long as we continue the current scheduling philosophy of a million cupcake home games. Not only are the opponents unexciting, the games are boring, and there are too many of them to the whole experience gets cheapened. And the excuse of trying to protect a young team is crap. This team is not young. We're returning all but two players and many of them have multiple years of post-season experience.
  19. http://www.ohio.com/blogs/ua-zips/university-of-akron-zips-blog-1.277207/zips-football-buckeyes-de-to-transfer-to-university-of-akron-1.500779 He'll have to sit this season.
  20. The question for me is what kinds of requests was he making of Lee Owens that Ashland couldn't fulfill as a D-II program, but that Akron could? I'm not familiar enough with the lower-division rules. Also, I agree with the idea that coach Nemec being brought in is the reason Chapman wants to transfer.
  21. http://www.times-gazette.com/latest%20headlines/2014/06/29/ashland-university-quarterback-tra-von-chapman-will-no-longer-play-for-eagles He would have to sit out a year, but after that he would have either two or three years left to play.
  22. $11/month is not cheap for the amount of content provided on the site. Netflix HD streaming is $9. A $5/month plan is more than reasonable.
  23. It could be made to work (for a little while, at least) if they offered a cheap online-only model, but tying it to delivery service is completely moronic.
  24. http://www.ohio.com/news/break-news/ohio-com-membership-model-begins-july-1-1.500160 This is what happens when you're either too lazy or too bogged down in corporate policy to get decent advertising revenue out of your news website. When you can't adapt, you do stupid things like put up a paywall in a desperate attempt to bilk readers out of some money, and then tie it into your print subscription to hopefully increase circulation. In five years, they will be out of business.
