Never Mind I see they've fenced off part of Vine St. That answered my question.

Here's the current power ranking104. Can't State: flushes have high expectations, but aren’t used to them.109. Akron: Zips have enough QB and defensive issues for two bad teams. How's that for a preseason downer?
-
I also see bunch of workers on Vine in Cam 3 since the utility poles came down. Anyone know if they're closing off Vine?
-
Yeah, I noticed this morning they sprayed down the earth in the bowl stands, and later it appeared they were covering it with a layer of something (I dunno what... but they had a conveyor machine and stuff)From the color it Looks like some kind mixture like sand and gravel. I'd say their in the final stages before pouring the lower stands.Looks like they are putting in the wire mesh for that today... maybe they'll pour next week? Also noticed in cam 3 that the utilities along the street are gone. Wonder if they are going to start on the end zone building? That is wire mesh they're installing on the home side.I also tuned in today as the utility poles came down. I believe the endzone building construction can't be to far behind.I read in the article about the team feeding the construction workers. That the press tower will be 45 more feet higher then it is right now. I knew they had three more floors. But, I never thought they were going to be that large.I believe the word HUGE is understatment.

I would love to be the one. That pushes the plunger that does this to the Rubber Bowl next year

That great news as UofA is going to be 2nd none in the MAC in the near future facilities wise.I agree a new baseball stadium would be in order and renovated or replaced JAR Arena and UofA will be set.

NoI'm telling you the responses to Rubber Bowl stories has been great. If, you'd drop Kim a line at the email and ask, you'd see that. I've already asked that question of UofA general interest writer and have been told that. But, a massive response is not going to get the ABJ to get off their poor sports coverage of UofA.They had massive responses for tell your old Spicer town stories. The blogs have been burning down all year on ABJ stories on UofA.But, to date only Rasor Blog has bothered to do any summer camp football coverage. We can flood the ABJ with all the human interests UofA stuff we like. The excitement is already building for the on campus stadium and advance tickets sales and money coming in more then drives that fact home. But, until we flood them about their lack of sports coverage for UofA.The human interests stuff is not buying us anything that UofA doesn't already have short of the poor sports coverage that needs to improve. One more RB story from myself or Captain Kangaroo is not going to make or break UofA from human side. But, decent sports coverage improvement like covering the summer camp and not just picking up a wire report from the Wisconsin game will do all the good in the world for UofA.I'm not saying that this story will bring around the sports people. I'm saying that this story will help other things. if you have an E-Mail address for me to write some of the sports people then by all means throw it out there but this entire conversation is just grinding gears at the moment. if you don't wanna write Kim with your story then don't but don't sit here and discourage others from doing itYou really kill me.I've spoken only for myself and mentioned what Captain Kangaroo already said that we're not sharing anything. I'm sure no one here is going base their decision to post a RB story because I've said I'm not. I'm not trying to encourage or discourage anyone. You responded to my posting here busting my chops about not posting a RB story in article that's going to have plenty of RB stories good, bad and ugly. Would be waste of my time anyway as I've been battling with the ABJ over their poor UofA and City of Akron High schools sports coverage. I'm sure they'd post my RB memories which include going into a freezing locker room where the sinks and urinals had ice floating in them during halftime of the City Series playoffs in 1977. Or a leaking locker room with rain water coming in it during another halftime during regular season game in 1976.Or maybe I can mention the mud my older brothers played in when it still had grass back in 1972. I have others in the 15 years of going to the RB (1968 First game-1983 last game) before I moved out of Akron. But, bandwidth doesn't allow and I'm just talking the ones that indicate the poor shape the RB has been in for decades. Like I said earlier. The UofA beat writer I email with off line as already indicated too me the responses have been great and if you bother to check the blog under the article. You'd see it one of the hottest articles going in the ABJ right now.Busting my chops about posting another RB story is not going to make or break UofA from human interest side.

So when they post my RB story and still use some blogger for coverage of the UofA Vs Wisconsin game. How did sharing my RB story help?it helps in general interest. people in the city read the article and read your story and get interested in the history of our old stadium and the future of our new stadium. maybe people see what the RB used to be and visit it just to see. even if they have no other storys about us ever atleast this one will help usWhat help do we need? The general interests is already there. UofA a couple of so called well know firms that do studies on the area and business potential and the like and they told UofA at best they'd sell 5 to 8 skyboxes. Not only did UofA sellout all 13 skyboxes. They're now slowly building lists for future interests. The sales are great for season tickets for ICS.The only thing lacking is sports coverage. The general interests is there and usually the hottest blogs at the ABJ outside of politics. We don't need more general interests help from the ABJ. We need some decent sports coverage to go with the general interests we already have.

You're confusingWhere have any of us said we're done?I clearly stated I have current dialogue ongoing with the UofA beat writer and I'll continue to complain to the ABJ about their sorry sports coverage on UofAI have no ideal what you're looking for. But, kissing the ABJ butt is not going to improve their current sorry coverage. I've had to complain and complain loudly to get the HS football coverage improved over the years. I'm still not done complaining on that front and won't stop complaining about the poor UofA coverage. It's crying shame the AJC does a farbetter job covering small colleges here in Georgia that are not in the Atlanta Metro area then the ABJ does for UofA in their own backyard. If, they have the resources to send a beat writers to Garfield-Hoban football game and print dozens of color pictures on-line. They surely have the people to do a far better job with UofA. You watch this friday on-line they'll have at least two stories and dozens of pictures from the Garfield-Hoban game. But, outside Rasor coverage what have they done for UofA Summer practice? Kissing their butt will not get them to change their ways as I know first hand what morons work at the ABJ these days.

Your right 87, already done (right here)As a matter of fact, the probably already knows about this link and will use it. Asking was just a formality.Big Zip, you hit the nail on the head. That would be a story worth reading.zipseuph. spend multiple years writing and pleading with the to cover your favorite local team to no avail like many on this board have done. Then come back here and tell us how "pathetic" we are.PS This is not directed toward anyone in particular, just a note for those who don't know about this tool. In the upper right hand corner of the page there is a "search" button. You can find just about anything with it. It is better than most I have used in other forums.BravoI've spent years complaining the ABJ about their poor coverage UofA and HS sports coverage. I know how bad the coverage is when I'm out of town and I have to go other newspapers in Ohio to get UofA write-ups and UofA site for stats. I could share the many emails I have in my collection going back and fourth complaining. I have current dialogue going with Carol Biliczky who agrees with me that the sports coverage of UofA is sorely lacking for UofA being a hometown team. She does a good job covering UofA from human interests and current events. But, the sports department sucks in their coverage.I'm also very insulted anyone would post here about how we're pathetic for trashing the ABJ who hasn't been listening to us for years about our complaints about their sorry coverage of UofA.If, not for Rasor right now. You have no coverage of the Summer camp going on in the shadow of the ABJ building. That's a sad indictment of the ABJ right there.

Through the magic of the Internets .. here you go.You just brought back some memories from my ongoing battles with the ABJ.David Lee Morgan what a waste of space. Not does he suck with his so called coverage of UofA He and I went at it via emails over the ABJ HS coverage. I had to remind him Garfield was not the only HS in Akron. Pretty sad he keep being up his human interest stories he had done and had no excuse for why Garfield that year as 5-5 team rated more weekly coverage and write-ups then 9-1 headed to the State Playoffs Buchtel. I've stayed on the ABJ about their pathetic local sports coverage and I agree. They treat UofA like the unwanted step child. They don't want to hear my memories of the Rubber Bowl. I'm sure they'd the print the one about being in the HS playoffs during one of NE Ohio many cold outbreaks we use to see in November on a regular basis. I love how we went into the locker room at halftime and it's about as cold in there as out on the field. Didn't help seeing ice was forming in the sinks and urinals due to the heaters being out.

Ethics panel reports on Morrison House
bigham78 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I hope it over it as well. I refused to read the trolls and moles posting on the ABJ blog with all the negative attacks on UofA over this. Morrison Son owns properties in area and has been buying and renting them for years. I seriously doubt there anything sinister about this sale and I hope I'm right in that thought. -
This not binding arbitration. This is mediation and the Nemers attorneys have already stated they have been having some very fruitful discussions on settling this. A 3rd pary is impartial and will look at the facts.I seriously doubt they'll rule on this close to the 3.1 mil with the common knowledge the jury ruled based on real estate broker and not a licensed appraisor.IMO, that why the Nemers and their attorneys don't want to go to circuit of appeals and want UofA to pay 3.1 mil before they rule.
-
As I read between the lines. UofA we don't want you to walk away from us. No doubt in my mind no matter what Manny claims. They want to sell their blighted properties. They just still want as much as they can get for them and they now know UofA will not pay the 3.1 mil for Joe's I also don't think a real estate broker is going to be able to help Manny come December the new trial date for his IMO, this will be settled through mediation.

UA may end effort to acquire properties for dorm
bigham78 replied to bigham78's topic in Akron Zips Football
UOfA would have to pay damages which would be the legal fees. But, Joe Nemer would be stuck with property that's blighted and he has no tennats other then the tatoo palor. The building has lead and absetos issues that need to dealt with and that's costly. He has a choice right now. Comeback to the table and negoiate in good faith for FMV and not that outlandish jury award of 3.1 mil. Or get your legal fees back and expect Summit county to reasses your property taxes for that flawed amout the real estate broker claimed in court. There no way he'll get the needed businesses revenues even with a new stadium and dorms nearby to survive for very long without major renovations to his blighted business. I fully expect some kind settlement in the range of 1.5 to 1.7 million in the very near future. Unless Joe as gone brain dead for greed. -
UA may end effort to acquire properties for dorm
bigham78 replied to bigham78's topic in Akron Zips Football
If you look at the renderings there is a huge dorm complex shown adjacent to the stadium, and we own all that land. Why not build the dorm right there and wall off our property facing the bars?Added to the article today. I believe UofA is sending the message they can still do the dorms without taking the Nemers property. Joe and Manny need to settle or they're going to stuck with their blighted properties and no buyers and very limited revenue very soon. From the university's viewpoint, the good news is that the Nemers' property apparently is not absolutely essential to the project.Ted Curtis, UA vice president of capital planning and facilities management, said he already has redesigned the residence hall in case the university does not buy the Nemers' property. He said the new plan would take the residence hall from five to six floors and cover less ground than the previous design. He did not know yet if it would cost more money. -

I disagree this is Win win for the Nemers. Without major renovations on their part. I don't see any great benefit to them staying there. This already been a PR nightmare for them and I don't see them getting any new UofA business out of this. The businesses are badly blighted and I've seen new Stadiums and Arenas go up next to blighted business is no guarantee of a business boom. The United Center was built in Chicago and several nearby dump businesses that never improved there buildings while the Old Chicago Stadium was still standing were out of business by the time I left Chicago. Keep in mind Manny's Pub has no doors on the restrooms telling what a crap hole it is and only APD and handful of others go to Aroma currently. Chopstix doesn't and never has had any Asian working there should tell about the quality of the Chinese food they serve.I'm hearing UofA is already in the process of reworking the dorm project to build around them. One of my sources I know working on the construction site. -
http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/26350634.htmlI don't blame UofA if the Circuit Court doesn't overturn this verdict. Let the Nemers sit there and watch there businesses go further down the drain and let them come to them begging to take the properties in a couple of years. I also hope Summit county charges them properties taxes at $85 per square foot
-
I really hoping they reduce this outlandish verdict. Judge Spicer only ruled the jury verdict was reasonable. IMO, he's left open the possiblilty of the verdict being overturned by not ruling something other then the jury verdict was reasonable. I felt his ruling was soft and implied he wasn't totally comfortable ruling that way. There no way that property is worth $85 a square foot just because UofA wants it.

Don't forget it is also about money, those bowls are within traveling distance for SBC fans, so they would have a better turn out most likely, than say a 6-6 Ohio U traveling that far south.SBC just barely meet NCAA attendance requirement on home games and 15,000 guidelines to be a Div 1A conference. Things like Arkansas letting La-Monroe be the home team in Little Rock getting credit for 53,000 fans 99% of them Arkansas fans is how the SBC inflates their attendance numbers over the years. The New Orleans Bowl was headed to the extiction list until Memphis brought in a boatload of fans in 2003 and Southern Miss again in 2004 took the bowl off the NCAA watch list. UNT who at the time was 4 time SBC champion never sold their full allotments of tickets for those years and always gave tickets back. The SBC had the nerve to complain about Cincy in 2002 when bowl attendance slipped to just over 15,000. They failed to mention Cincy sold their full allotments of tickets while UNT sent over 2500 of theirs back. I'm a BIG critic of this conference, because IMO, its Division 1A worst conference and even the MAC beats these teams head to head. (That's no knock on the MAC)It has delusions of gradeur and the upsets they've pulled over the past severals years over BCS teams are far fewer then the MAC and not near as impressive as the MAC.
-
The Cuse are not that good. They lost to Miami of OH last year 17-14 and just barely knocked off Buffalo 20-12. There only other win was the upset win over Lville. They were bad last year. They were shut out 35-0 by a medicore Iowa and blown out in back to back weeks Vs WVU 55-14 and Rutgers 38-14.At 2-10 The Cuse is very beatable by UofA. I have doubts the Cuse will improve all that much this season
-
The SBC who just got a bowl deal for more teams. The same SBC has four teams on the bottom 10 FIU (One of college football worst Div 1A teams) glorified tune-ups La-Monroe and La-Fayette. UNT is in waiting. That's half the teams in the SBC. I'm sorry if I'm still scratching my head over how this glorified tune-ups for real BCS teams with delusions of grandeur conference rates extra bowl bids. A 6-6 team blows out the conference champion of this weak conference.Example A: 6-6 Oklahoma St 42 SBC Champion Florida Atlantic 6 Now they're starting the season with 4 bottom ten teams or over half their conference. But, they have the potential for 3 Bowl bids.
