Looking for $0.02. Panthers or Bobcat Game?
Dr Z replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football
Pitt will have a chance to have a better atmosphere and weather. I know it's always a hard sell getting friends to games, since we beat the Panthers last year, it may be a little easier for you. Good for you for trying again. Take some photos of your group and come back to this thread and post them, I think a lot of members would enjoy. -
Spots still available, deadline for registration is August 7th.

Zach Paul@ZachPaul38Happy to say I broke a UAkron all-time record today. The single most important lift for us specialists.. The bench press.

I think you may be on to something. Who else effectively runs the flex-bone in college football?

Do any of the offensive depth chart "surprises" suggest the type of offense that may, or may not be installed?

MAC Football Media Day will be shown on ESPN3. The broadcast will highlight the league's annual kickoff event from 1-3 pm this Wednesday, July 29th at Ford Field. Reghi and Dustin Fox will anchor ESPN3's coverage that will include interviews with commissioner Jon Steinbrecher and each of the conference's 13 head football coaches. Select students from around the league will also be interviewed. More info here. Coach Bowden, Jatavis Brown and Cody Grice will attend. Will Cody speak more about scoring or defending?

Nice writeup. "The Zips hope Tommy Brown (Firestone) will be able to realize some of his potential under the tutelage of new offensive line coach Darrell Funk." I root for another team in another league that changed offensive line coaches. The line went from one of the worst, to one of the best in less than a year. I hope this is the case for the Zips this year. A successful line will go a long way in helping many of our offensive struggles.

Karen Farkas of Northeast Ohio Media Group gives a mention to ZipsNation. Switching From "A" to "Z" Adopting a new logo has been discussed for months with athletes, coaches and other university constituents, said George Van Horne, associate athletics director."Moving to the 'Z' logo separates us from those other schools and makes us more recognizable," he said. Reaction to the new identity is mixed on zipsnation.org, a blog for UA fans.

Barrett's Job to Lose: Barrett will win the job, sooner or later. And probably sooner. Barrett, will be a full go when preseason camp begins in August. That means Barrett will be in a full sprint to catch Jones, who has opened a big lead considering he’s been the only healthy Buckeyes QB since Barrett went down. Several coaches indicated they believe that Barrett, a redshirt sophomore from Texas, will retake the starting job during August camp or early in the season, at the latest. “He’s the guy. He’s a dog,” one coach familiar with the Buckeyes' situation said. “The [team] recognizes what kind of player and leader [barrett] is and they’ll rally behind him and play for him. It’s nothing against those other guys, who are very, very talented, but [barrett] is the total package. He’s got to be the guy.”

2015 NFL QB Tier Rankings A voting panel of 35 league insiders. The process was straightforward: The coaches and evaluators I polled placed each of the 32 projected starters into one of five tiers, with Tier 1 reserved for the very best and Tier 5 reserved for the very worst. Carr (20) This relatively high ranking for an unestablished player reflects a fair amount of projection from voters excited about the potential they've seen to this point. Bridgwater (23) Bridgewater made it into the third tier after a 13-game rookie season featuring 14 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. That's not bad, but it's tough not to notice how much Bridgewater lagged behind Carr, his fellow 2014 rookie, in this survey. Bortles (27) Bortles played sooner than anticipated and got very little support, making it tougher to evaluate him fairly. Voters were not particularly critical of Bortles, but that doesn't mean they were optimistic, either. For reference, Manziel did not make the list, but the guy that will more than likely be the starting QB on his team (at the beginning of the season) is listed at (29).

Months later, Don agrees, but will it continue to haunt? EA Sports gets it.

So many choices as to where to put this, but I'll try here. Former Akron sports writer Terry Pluto, uses a lot of words in this article about baseball, football, the confernce and money. • For years, Akron had problems with its baseball program. Nearby Can't State dwarfed the Zips in terms of recruiting and success on the field. The Golden Flashes went to the 2012 College World Series. They have been to the NCAA tournament in six of the last nine seasons. • It makes little sense (and saves relatively few dollars) for Akron to leave the MAC in football to play FCS (the old Division 1-AA). • And the truth is that simply going down a level wouldn't help the bottom line very much, and it would dearly hurt the other athletic programs."Akron has been very successful in basketball, soccer and track," said Steinbrecher. "That's important to remember."

If you're a Pitt fan, are you excited to travel to a team that upset you at home last year, or are you scared of getting embarrassed again?

I appreciate anybody who comes on ZN and provides possible answers to questions. Forget tv? You might be right. Two years ago, I would have said your nutz, but I watch just as many sports on other devices as I do on tv now a days. I like that idea. I do not want to see Ken+s team twice. If our rival was Pitt or Marshall, I could watch two of those games, but watching a crummy Ken+ team twice a year is not my idea of entertainment. Your probably correct in suggesting it would get more people to the game, but I don't want to see it.

Getting beat by the Zips must not taste so bad. “That left a bad taste in my mouth, and I’m probably not ever going to lose that taste until we win the next bowl game,” Render said. That game isn’t the only one, either. Render said he also sometimes thinks about close fourth-quarter losses against Duke and North Carolina, as well. In fact, as Render walked through the lobby at Pinehurst Resort for the first day of the ACC Kickoff on Monday, he saw highlights from Duke’s double-overtime win at Heinz Field playing on the TV screens. “I had a hard time watching that still,” he said. So it’s no surprise that the biggest theme for Pitt this offseason has been to “finish.”

92.3 The Fan to discuss "Rumors" Football to move down
Dr Z replied to K-Roo's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I'm guessing it has less to do with the actual football program, but Dr S's cuts. They are fearful of their jobs, and are in defense mode trying diversionary tactics. Who knows, it may actually backfire on them. -
Dog, Bull...I would expect Bear.

This would take a "W" out of the win column at the risk of making the team better.

92.3 The Fan to discuss "Rumors" Football to move down
Dr Z replied to K-Roo's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
No thanks. "I'm not focused on dropping anywhere. I'm focused on staying where we are, and being competitive, and having a good team on the field," Mortimer says. Mortimer says getting more people in InfoCision Stadium - for both athletic and other events - is a focus. The University needs to take advantage of the public's new found interest in the program, and market the positives. Information about the program is actually reaching Joe Akron that we always speak of. Now give them the hard sell on the program instead of the BS.
