  1. Problem addressed.
  2. I often wonder when reading posts here, how many members are unaware of this fact.
  3. It's interesting when athletes thrive in certain environments/systems, and diminish in others. Here is an awesome example (near the end of the article). I only discovered the The Players Tribune when Kevin Love announced his return to the Cavs, but I am a HUGE fan of the concept.
  4. ZipsNation brought you the info in early June. http://zipsnation.org/forums/topic/33555-new-transfer-michaelee-harris-louisville/
  5. Agreed, I don't see the benefit either. I would hope our president can make decisions without making non beneficial comments about the past, and focus on solutions for the future. Otherwise, inquiring fans will continue to read into his comments. Nothing he will say is going to change the past, but a lot of what he does can change the future of UA.
  6. A-zip, let's pretend everything you type is true. What is the University of Akron's benefit from the comment?
  7. Any of the Green area ZN members hear of Marquelo coaching receivers at Green High School?
  8. Agreed. I never thought his skill set fit into the current Zips offense. Summer League Schedule. @NickHarney
  9. ZipsNation™ broke the info in early June. Dedicated thread on Michaelee found here.
  10. I assumed as much, but wish a line of questions followed. I wanted to read more from Dr S. If you go back and look at the stadium thread, there was not much talk of making the stadium smaller. I do remember comments on the stadium being able to be expanded. Some were writing about the size of the stadium having to do with moving up to a "better" conference? How much would a smaller stadium have saved them? Would the major donors still give if they were to build a smaller venue? IMO it seems like a pretty ambiguous comment by Dr S. Does criticizing a past decision really help focus on the current issues at hand? Did he not know about this before he agreed to take the job? Should CK have shown him his 'Football Holocaust' documentary featuring a (cough cough) "coach" I can't even bring myself to type anymore? It could start to sound like an early excuse to some. I would hope he has a solution in mind. Thanks for posting. Sparse Zoo for the Roo. John Harper of the Northeast Ohio group writes 100 words on the subject.
  11. Ignoring the issue will not make it go away. Here is the full article. I thought it was well written. I'm not sure you conveyed the quote properly. I wish it was explained more though. “I would not have built that stadium,” he said, putting extra emphasis on the word “that” during a recent interview with the Beacon Journal editorial board." I like this tidbit, since I have been suggesting it for two decades. "The school wants to create a family friendly atmosphere and is spending more time at community festivals promoting the games and team.“We have to be out in the community and be a part of the community every day,” Van Horne said. UA plans to start marketing its fall sports in July with a billboard campaign, radio campaign and direct mailing. “We know that people take their eye off Zips athletics in the summer,” Van Horne said. “You’ll start to see us come July 1 market the football program, the soccer program and our other fall sports more.” Many, me included, thought this was a great idea. Glad to see it's being considered again. "The university gave away free tuition for the spring 2015 semester to three students who came to the game against Bowling Green. A fourth winner was selected through a social media contest. That cost the school $16,097.The scholarship promotion was so well-received that the university is considering doing it again this coming season, possibly at more than one game. The school is looking for sponsors to underwrite the cost of the giveaway, Van Horne said." The student support part of the article could, and should, be an entire piece.
  12. From the photo with his dad, I'm going to guess that "size" or strength won't be an issue for him.
  13. Well written piece, thanks for posting. Good luck to coach Stroud.
  14. He never seemed like an NBA talent to me...but it's the 76'ers, so I guess it kinda counts. He is no BG NBA alum Antonio Daniels (4th overall 1997)!?!? Maybe Akron's mindset on JuCos needs reevaluated. #thenewmac
  15. Stunning news. Just imagine if they go back and dig up that old tweet of him in an Akron hoodie. OMG!
  16. Lakers select Larry Nance Jr. Nance Jr.'s draft stock rose rapidly in the final days leading up to the draft, so much so that he snuck into the first round. He's a 6'8 power forward who stayed all four years at Wyoming and averaged 16.1 points as a senior. He averaged seven rebounds, shot 51 percent from the floor and even hit a few three-pointers at a 31 percent rate, although he doesn't immediately project to be a shooter from behind the arc in the NBA unless he can extend his range.
  17. “The rules have changed to where you could only have two players from one college team on each of the summer league teams,” Dixon said. “That sort of made it difficult with only so many Division I players available to have the kind of competitive league you are looking for." Source: Pitt cancels summer league.
  18. More coverage may be added when the event gets closer. We are 72 days away.
  19. I would offer these two Under Armor wearing kids before Ken+ or Toledo does. They rep Under Armor every day.
  20. LINDSAY SCHNELL writes about the technology of recruiting in college football. (FULL ARTICLE) Technology has brought college athletics a dizzying number of new, swanky devices and practices, gadgets and formulas that increase performance and efficiency. And in recruiting, it’s made coaches’ lives a lot lighter—literally. “It used to be, you talk to a kid on the phone, then you send him something in the mail,” Whitcomb says. “Now, he can look at the app, at all the updated stuff we have, on his iPad while we’re on the phone.” JumpForward developed and launched a native mobile app that automatically logs coaches' calls to prospects, eliminating the need to track them with paper and pen. Compliance apps often send push notifications to coaches and administrators warning of potential NCAA violations, like if a coach is about to exceed his limit of phone calls. “Websites are dying,” says Max Allen, the director of football new media at Iowa. “Social media has taken the place of websites—and millennials don’t know of information being delivered any other way.” I know Akron has an app to give potential students a tour of the campus and current students schedules, calendars, news, etc. I would image recruiting has something.
  21. A league that tries to avoid shootouts. (similar to ZR post above) While I enjoyed world cup last year, 2009 was my last college soccer game I will pay attention to until the kickball competition to decide a game is altered. I realize some enjoy it. I do not.
  22. A couple of quick takes from the interview: • No specific date for an AD to be hired, should be between 3 weeks and 3 months. HAS to be the right guy. • New arena should happen in 3 to 5, maybe 7 years. • Has to be improvements to the JAR. • As a fan, he would be shocked if coach Bowden didn't reach a bowl game this year. • Being an AD is not his long term goal. Thanks for posting SZ!
  23. Game time is 7 pm ET.
  24. Zips lose three star area (Bedford) recruit to Pitt. Chawntez Moss verbally committed to Pitt on Sunday afternoon. Rated the 83rd-best running back in the nation and 47th-best player in Ohio in the Class of 2016, Moss also held scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Akron, Can't State, Miami (OH) Ohio, Toledo, Bowling Green and others.
