  2. I agree. The effectiveness of our punting game also compliments your argument...and, dare I say, knock on wood, our new found field goal team??? I continue to hear coach in the back of my head saying "we need to find what works at Akron." I like the above formula....this year.
  3. Thank you, I missed that play. I was trying to "beat the line" at the beer stand before the end of the half. BTW, that was a terrible move by me. No more waiting in line. Akron now has the bottoms up fill stations. I hope they add the Zips logo to the magnet next year like UNLV. Good advertising opportunity. I was curious, so I looked it up, cups cost 45 cents instead of 10 cents according to this article from 2011. Might be less expensive now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wiu_IX14wLI
  4. Two Choffe's??? Wow, this is officially a BIG game. PS Extra points for composition.
  5. BS. If we win by less than 8, I walk out of the stadium disappointed. If we are a good team, we need to pound cupcakes at home. Pound them!
  6. Nice article GT. One thing missing, a nice photo of Cody's head. Here are two other photographs I took at the Pitt game that help support the article. Big play on offense, and a big play on defense. Isn't it funny, before the game the talk of the "two-way terror" was Conner. Sorry buddy, Cody is the man!
  7. Nice read EA. Over the last three weeks the RedHawks have scored 24, 27 and 42 points as Hendrix has passed for 262, 238 and 437 yards with nine TD passes. Looking forward to see our front seven go after Hedrix. Make him uncomfortable!!! Hope our offense comes to play Saturday. I worry more about them. Pound and play action will beat these clowns by 30. I hope that's the game plan. Stop trying to pound the square peg AJ. This better not be close.
  8. 50 ½ is the o/u
  9. Agreed. That's what I hate about stats. If your in the red zone once and score a field goal and get beat 56-3, your 100%. Great. None of this matters against EMU, Miami, Umass, Ken+, etc... I'm concerned when/if we play in bigger games this year. Trust me, from watching games live, we have an issue.
  10. When the Steelers drafted Dri Archer in the third round this year, they had visions of him being a matchup nightmare. Through five games of the season, Archer has yet to make an impact. An injury sidelined him for a couple of games, and the Steelers haven't found a way to use him properly. That was evident against the Jaguars. Archer was on the field for five snaps, touched the ball three times and gained 10 yards. Here are what the five plays looked like: • In an empty set, Archer was lined up as a receiver to the far right. Roethlisberger threw a quick pass to him for 7 yards. • On a third-and-goal from the 4-yard line, Archer was part of a two-back look with Le'Veon Bell. Archer ran a swing out of the backfield, and Roethlisberger was sacked. • On a second-and-16 from the Jags 46, Roethlisberger threw a quick screen out of the backfield for 1 yard. • On a first-and-10 with the ball on the Steelers 12, Archer took a pitch out of a two-back set. He gained 1 yard. • On a third-and-1 in the fourth quarter, Archer lined up in the I-formation with Will Johnson in front of him. The run went to Johnson up the middle. The Steelers tried a variety of different ways to get Archer the ball, but none were successful against statistically the worst defense in the league. source
  11. Russell can lead my team any day of the week. BTW, another NFL success story with 2 stars from Rivals and Scout coming out of high school. There may be around seven to ten QB's I like better, but he is definitely in my upper half of starting QB's in the NFL right now. He seems to be working hard to learn as much as he can right now. By his own admittance, he is still learning. I agree with your overall statement though, I'll take a good defense and a manager of the game, but do I have to? Can't I have a good defense and a Getsy or Frye at QB? When you have a good defense, and a GREAT punter like we do, it's not so difficult to punt the ball. BUT we need an offense that can score a touchdown in the red zone. I think we need to tweak our offensive game to fit the guys that we have playing for us right now. It's fun to be a Zips fan right now, we have potential to put an awesome product on the field come December.
  12. Yep, I missed that mention. Thanks. I like how Balsy quoted the word "win." One thing though, Whipple's decision, not Frohnapfel's. Good way to get fired.
  13. I was out of town last weekend. I read through this thread when I returned. I can't believe nobody mentioned how Miami "won." The RedHawks, who hadn't won a game since Oct. 27, 2012, battled back from a 41-14 deficit in the first half to squeeze by the Minutemen. The game ended in incredible fashion as well, as UMass made a very questionable decision. The Minutemen had the ball at the Miami 32 in the final seconds and completed a pass down to the six yard line. Instead of spiking the ball and attempting a field goal, the Minutemen decided to go for the touchdown, but Shadrach Abrokwah was tackled at the two-yard line as the clock expired. Click here to be amazed. Why even have a kicker on your team??? It was the coaches decision to go for the TD. I highly doubt it comes to this, but PLEASE remember this when we play them. Umass, Miami, Ken+, EMU...how can we not have a winning record this year? Can we replace one of those games with a Marshall redo? Can't wait to see who wins the pillow fight in Portage county this weekend where Umass is a one point underdog to the mighty hippies. ------------------------------------ We better pound these clowns.
  14. Another MAC player is making a splash as an undrafted rookie. Branden Oliver steals the show Branden Oliver shows he belongs After his second touchdown Sunday against the number one run defense in the league, Oliver was approached by another player who came into the league as an undrafted free agent.“You belong in this league,” Antonio Gates said to the him. “Whoever told you that you didn’t belong in the league was sadly mistaken. You deserve to be in this league.”That was actually every team on draft day and for the two weeks that followed, until the Chargers signed the former University at Buffalo standout.
  15. I can't speak on the EMU game because I wasn't there, but I was at the Pitt game, and the staff handled it perfectly. PS It wasn't the play calling.
  16. KP16 has gone from #110 (in the country) to #91 in QB efficiency rating in the last two games. So he is improving, but there is a lot of room. We will go as far as he takes us. The staff should be doing everything in their power to help his progression. When the Zips are predictably passing, we are not that good. This team needs to run the ball more to be an effective passing team.
  17. They were indeed different. A lot of relatives that read, and post disappear after the player(s) graduate.
  18. Do you realize there are only two other teams in the entire country worse than the Zips in red zone scoring? One is EMU, the other is Kansas. Before the Pitt game, we were dead last.
  19. "Minus quarterback scrambles by Pohl and Woodson, plus two short-yardage dives from nose guard Cody Grice, Akron only attempted five running plays in the first half last week." Limit their possessions. Run the ball more than 5 times in the first half AJ.
  20. Here it is. I still like my call....and CK with the lot 9 dorm call.
  21. There are more than 2800 request on there!...NOT one from Akron. Click on other MAC schools for comparison. Can't we even try?...oh yeah I forgot "no one wants to play us." I'm really tired of reading the excuses on ZN why we can't schedule. I grow tired of the excuses.
  22. Funny, I had the Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier at the Beer Market right after the big win last Saturday in Pittsburgh. I told the barmaid that she either pulled the wrong handle or they put the wrong keg in it's spot. I told her it was just HB. She poured one to compare, she was right, I was forced to drink both. I guess I'm just an ignorant american Oktoberfest beer drinker. Even though she didn't seem to mind, I feel I owe her an apology. She also stated I wasn't the first to question the color. For anyone else that didn't know, see the below explanation just incase you go here. "There is a huge difference between the German Oktoberfest producers and the American ones. Until scientists linked hard water to brewing techniques and figured out ways to adapt the pH in local water, dear old Munchen was not very good at making pale beers. Traditionally Munich beers are darker and maltier, so the traditional Oktoberfest as it was historically is an Amber-brown lager much like we know in the United States today. In the late 20th century, Munich brewers began to make a paler, crisper beer, possibly as a result of the heat at the festival being too much to drink a heavier, sugary beer. In America, our beers remain darker."
  23. That's funny, there was a #XX that used to play for the Zips during the Lee Owens days that had a similar issue. I swore I was going to go to his graduation just to make sure. I'll keep my eye out for ol number thirty-seven. One of our starting QB's strengths is single coverage on the outside, he has a nice touch down the sidelines.
  24. Thanks for your opinion. I wish this was an away game. Pitt QB last week had a rough time with balls thrown over 10 yards. I have to guess as an offensive coordinator, that really limits your play calling, advantage coach Amato. I really like when Pohl chucks it down the sidelines when he gets one on one coverage. Helps our run game out. Hopefully the rain moves out before game time.
