  1. I like his attitude. Seems like he is putting himself in a position to succeed. "I just have faith in the Zips, plus I like the way the coaches treat me and I know it's a nice environment" Dixon, an athletic two-way player who sees time at both defensive back and wide receiver for Hagerty, said he wasn't concerned what position he plays in college, just that he's playing. "I think I can get on the field early because I am determined and I am a hard worker," "They like me just as a playmaker and they like my speed." "He (coach Bowden) made me feel very welcome and he said all of the right things to make me feel comfortable with the program," "I want to get bigger and stronger this year and continue my academics (3.2 gpa)."
  2. Well done. That's some talent!?!?! Frank Caliendo channels Morgan Freeman when reading LeBron James' letter discussing his return to Cleveland.
  3. I'm looking forward to our Tuesday game in November with BG. I'm pretty sure it will be another trap game™. Ellen gives a BG overview today, writing that they are looking for "respect." Sound familiar? (New BG head coach) Babers said don't be surprised if there are games where both teams eclipse 100 plays. He also said his defense will play the game at a high speed, forcing opposing offenses to operate just as quickly, getting them out of a comfort zone.
  4. If anyone thinks that LeBron doesn't like his neighbors, check this out.

  6. I would occasionally check here. (ESPN week 4 link) I would expect it to show up on ESPN3.

  8. I would guess, most posters are ignorant to this. I used to play in a small league, and they had a heck of a time procuring ice time. Plan B; offer this kid a scholarship NOW.
  9. I'm just curious, has anybody posting in this thread ever tried to buy an hour of ice time in this area (15 mile radius of Akron)?
  10. Could Pitt's offensive line be a weakness? Pitt’s offensive line was not at that level last season. In fact, the unit wasn’t even close. The Panthers averaged just 125.7 yards per game on the ground in 2013. The figure Rowell was more concerned about, though, was 43, the number of sacks given up last season, sixth worst in Division I-A.
  11. Veteran QBs abound in East Division ranks: MAC Football 2014 (pohl...I mean poll) by EA of the PD "Less than a week until the Mid-American Conference holds its annual football media day in Detroit. Here is an early primer of what to look for from the MAC's East Division, which this season should carry the flag for the conference, considering the majority of proven returning quarterbacks reside here." Kyle is currently in second to BG's Matt Johnson.
  12. I always wondered, can a game be called a "trap" game, if before the game you call it a "trap" game? Isn't a "trap" a surprise? I hate stupid clichés. As I was reading the article, I forgot how much I liked Storm Johnson when I watched him last year. I missed him being drafted by the Jaguars. I'm guessing he was kind of a product of that offensive line, but I still admired his running. When I saw him run, I thought he would be a good compliment in most backfields in the NFL. PS Here is what I still think of Marshall.
  13. One could argue that it was associated with the greatest moment in Zips football.
  14. Arizona Sun Devil, Texas Longhorn, Louisville Cardinal, Boise State Bronco, Northern Illinois Huskie...
  15. I missed this one earlier. Good business. LeBron James $30 million profit on Apple-Beats deal.
  16. The articles are piling up with their numbers and studies. Bloomberg story on LBJ bringing $500 Million to Cleveland. Other spending increases will come at restaurants, convention business and hotels, FitzGerald said. Anticipated benefits include a $34 million increase in annual spending by fans at games to $170 million a year plus 500 additional jobs supported by the Cavaliers, the county said. There will even be a boost to debt-service payments because revenue from an admissions tax is used to help support about $9 million a year for the $120 million in bonds that the county issued in 1992 to build what is now Quicken Loans Arena where the team plays, said Nathan Kelly, county deputy chief of staff for economic development. Forbes in January valued the Cavaliers at $515 million, 19th in the league. James makes the Cleveland Cavaliers a billion-dollar franchise, Peter Schwartz, managing director of venture capital at Boston-based Christie & Associates LLC, has said. Sports Illustrated story: LeBron James' return a financial boost to Cleveland, Northeast Ohio Plain Dealer article By Andrew J. Tobias : LBJ's Return is Worth Millions FitzGerald said his estimates are conservative. The FitzGerald administration as its baseline used an economic impact study -- the accuracy of which received mixed reviews from economists interviewed by the Northeast Ohio Media Group -- that the Cavs commissioned and released earlier this year. For what it's worth, The Plain Dealer, working with economists, in 2010 roughly estimated James played a key role in $200 million in annual downtown spending -- $48 million during the regular season, and $150 million in regional spending for a deep playoff run. PS I notice many comments below the linked PD article are similar to what GP1 writes.
  17. Where is Charlie Frye now? By Scott Patsko, Northeast Ohio Media Group From local kid and backup quarterback fans chanted for to an unprecedented trade that kick-started the Browns' best season since 1999, Charlie Frye certainly had a rollercoaster ride in Cleveland. But it turned out to be a short ride, lasting just two seasons and a game. Frye's best performance as Browns quarterback may have come in his first career start, a Week 13 loss to Jacksonville. Despite the 20-14 final score, Frye finished 13-of-20 for 226 yards, two touchdowns passes to Braylon Edwards and no interceptions. The 136.7 quarterback rating would remain the highest of his career. Frye was the first quarterback since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger to start Week 1 and be traded before Week 2. What he's doing now Frye is a physical education teacher and assistant football at Wekiva High School in Florida. Frye is on the staff of former Browns defensive end Kenard Lang.

  19. From the same writer:
  20. Nothing? What about the increased drugs and prostitution?
  21. With LBJ returning to the Cavs, Dan Gilbert and the rest of the club’s staff has to be giddy. Beyond whatever the contract amount winds up being, the Cavs and Cleveland are about to recoup his prior loss, and then some...When LeBron left Cleveland it has been estimated that the City of Cleveland had an economic loss of $50 million a year. Forbes writes how much $$$ LBJ could mean to the city. Saving GP1 time.
  22. James has agreed to a two-year, $42.1 million deal with the team with the goal of re-signing with the Cavs before the 2016-17 season when a new television contract is expected to create a large jump in value of the maximum. As part of the deal, James will have an option to become a free agent next summer but is fully committed to the Cavs long term, sources said Dwyane Wade says he is sad to see LeBron James leave the Miami Heat, and he supports him regardless. Wade released a statement Saturday calling James "my brother," and saying he knows James' decision to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers was not an easy one for the four-time NBA MVP.
  23. I like it PS Nice rendering too.
  24. Even Charles Barkley was impressed with the way James made the decision, via an essay on SI.com, that explained how he wanted to return home and bring a championship to the city of Cleveland. A native of Akron, Ohio, James spent the first seven years of his NBA career with the Cavs, taking them to the NBA Finals in 2007. Source. "...the letter was brilliant on his part, he might be the most loved athlete in the world" Classic video for the bandwagon haters. The labels on the ashes in the fridge are the best!
  25. Biggest day in Cleveland sports history in my life...odd. David Blatt, the luckiest coach in the world. Can't wait to listen to the LBJ haters backtrack. Loved the SI article, well written. Interesting he didn't give it to ESPN. Even Pittsburgh sports writers were rooting for Lebron to end up back home. Vegas now favors the Cavs to win the NBA title at 4:1 !?!? Love that he didn't let the Cavs or Heat know first. "James, his agent and advisors deeply considered how they wanted to release the message and decided they didn't want to make it about the Cavs or the Heat but about the people of Ohio. James wanted to tell them first, sources said." Dan Gilbert apologizes for letter written after LBJ took his talents to Miami. LBJ, bigger man than me. Manziel posted (I think he took it down, but they are airing it on ESPN) a photoshopped image of he and LBJ doing the money sign. Please LBJ, keep your distance from this tool.
