  1. This was right after they beat Columbus. The girls in the front are spelling S- U- X. Bold move.
  2. Day 1 observations:  Even though the team practiced in helmets but not pads, it was easy to see why the coaching staff was happy running back Warren Ball transferred to UA from Ohio State. At a rock-solid 6-foot-1 and 232 pounds, Ball looks like the prototypical running back — big and strong. In his case, the size belies something else — speed. Ball has deceptive second and third gears. Running back Van Edwards showed why he’s in the conversation to be part of the running back rotation when he crashed through the offensive line to daylight on a run that would have been a TD in most games. I think this situation will go a long way in deciding our season this year. If this can become a position of strength, every group offensively and defensively will benefit. Good to read that GT thinks its off to a good start. I liked the little that saw from Van last season. A few times I got the feeling that his teammates played with some swag when he entered.
  3. Three Games Starting Friday -- EA of PD (KD) "We're going to be a bit different this year, particularly off the bench." The difference is quickly noticeable as the Zips will be much more athletic. Newcomers Craig Eubanks (Missouri West Plains Junior College), Michael Hughes (Liberty, Mo.), Tavian Dunn-Martin (Huntington, W.Va.), Daniel Utomi (Houston, Texas) will join sophomore Jimond Ivey in an effort to replace departed sharp-shooting wings Jake Kretzer and Reggie McAdams, along with center Pat Forsythe. Ivey played sparingly last season while Utomi and Eubanks practiced as redshirts. Their athleticism and defensive ability will be key to making Akron better. "The more they can push for playing time, the better we're going to be,'' Dambrot said. "We'll play the young guys a lot (in the Bahamas) to get them ready.
  4. Peter Agba is transferring to Rochester College per @VerbalCommits
  5. I see two games, The Herd, and the Bulls. CBS did a great job last year. Looking forward to both broadcasts.
  6. The music festival is FREE to the public. Gates to the Lee R. Jackson Track & Field Complex (next to InfoCision Stadium) open at Noon. Live music will be played from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Soul Asylum is best known for its Grammy Award-winning hit-single "Runaway Train", as well as notable hits "Black Gold" and "Somebody to Shove." Prior to Soul Asylum, live music will be provided throughout the afternoon by Akron rock legends The Bizarros, country-group Shooter Sharp & the Shootouts, and singer-songwriter J.D. Either. Akron radio station 91.3 FM The Summit is the official promotional partner for the Touchdown Music Fest. "We are excited to bring a fun-filled game day to the Akron community on Labor Day weekend," said Zips' Director of Athletics Larry Williams. "Great music provided by three awesome local artists and Grammy Award-winner Soul Asylum is the perfect way to kick off the Zips' 2016 football season. We certainly want the Touchdown Music Fest to grow into an Akron tradition which will bring the community and The University of Akron even closer together." Good idea, I hope it goes well. I saw Soul Asylum w/ the Meat Puppets at the Hard Rock Casino in Northfield Park last year, they sounded good.
  7. Could be one of the reasons he was named to the Bronko Nagurski trophy watch list.
  8. Not with the work he has put in over the offseason.
  9. I went to try Bar Cento two Fridays ago for lunch. I still have no report, they don't open until 4:30. Since I had pizza on my mind, I decided to drive to Citizen Pie instead. If you are a fan of artisan pizza, this place is for you. Great job. Fantastic crust. I got to chat with the owner for a few, I could go on, but here is a nice write-up in the Plain Dealer instead. He mentioned to me that they have only run out of dough 3 times since opening, so I wouldn't worry about that. I would consider the fact that it is directly across the Beachland, so you might want to avoid late night shows. Be aware that it is very small inside. Only seats about 20. And the oven makes it pretty warm since it's a small place. Totally worth it though. Eater voted it one of the hottest new restaurants in Cleveland.
  10. I know a few (athletic) administrations ago, I was told JT was financially involved in the program. I was unable to attend this years spring game, but I took this photo of some Zip SB winners the previous year.
  11. Woodson named to Johnny Unitas Golden Arm watch list.
  12. I had this stout on tap last night, really enjoyed it. Maybe a little on the sweet side, but I'll get it again. A good post game victory drink.

  20. Coach visits with Jasen (from June 29th.)
  21. Besides removing all the Buffalo Wild Wings items and putting them in storage, the other updates included steam cleaning, painting the walls a darker blue, and adding new chairs, booths and UA sports memorabilia. The family found a new food vendor and developed a basic menu that later may be expanded. I'll give it a try.
