  1. If I don't see Roo Brew being sold....
  2. He must've misunderstood my gibberish. I just meant I cant get into "The Bear Cave" which is the name of the forum their school uses. My reference to "what sort of field surface will be used on the new stadium" was just sarcasm. I was trying to think of reasons they might not allow outsiders into their forum.Apologies for the confusion. I hope MSU's band will be taking the trip to Akron.
  3. How don't it?
  4. Haha, zippy5. I think we have one confused bear on our hands.
  5. Facebook is an awesome tool for communicating to current members and students, but what about all the freshman who won't have a clue? Many of them may want to go but won't know about it until the last minute. I'm sure they could find out by word of mouth, but if the AK Rowdies really want to get serious(as they said they have) and if they want to capitalize on the growth in students, then some other sort of organized message would do that. As I said, send out university wide email messages.
  6. I just happened to notice that there was a soccer game the Friday before classes start against South Florida. Considering that Friday is the day most kids move into their dorms, what better way could there be to kick of the '09 fall semester? I'm sure it would give the new freshman a cool experience to remember. Not to mention, the games at 7:30, so most kids will be moved in already anyhow.I hope the AK-Rowdies can get the information out through zipmail or something. I don't know when they hold the AK-Rowdies sign ups, but if it's after that Friday, they should definetly send out a University wide email letting kids know about the game. IMO, it would be a huge mistake for them to pass up on such an opportunity, and I hope their new leadership is already planning something. Does anyone have any other ideas as to how they could get the word out before Friday, the 21st?
  7. Is there any way students can buy a scarf? Because we get into the games for free, it wouldn't make sense to buy season tickets.
  8. I know some guys who went to Randy's old high school(Lake Catholic) and it sounds like he's really excited about being apart of the program. We got lucky with him.
  9. Wow, it's really exciting thinking about what that area could become. Could you imagine being a student there? Across the street from the Akron Aeros and next to the new arena and all the bars downtown. That kind of student experience would be one unique to Akron, at least as far as Ohio is concerned. The quicker the university makes a move, the better. Who knows what could happen to that lot in the next few years. Urban campuses are always hurting for room to expand, and this is a chance if there ever was one. Another thought: The university could but up some adjacent lots to add a home for the new Bioinnovation Institute. After all, its been over a year since it's announcement and it's still homeless.
  10. That's ironic. I remember posting a topic a while back about this guy. I couldn't believe we though we even had a chance. People on here told me he might come if he runs into problems with academics or something. I guess they were right. He could only help.
  11. "Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to sufferThe slings and arrows of outrageous fortune"If you're going to quote a 16th century bisexual adulterer, you might as well do it right.
  12. It's really more than that. Our graduation rate will never be that great because of open enrollment. The same can be said of Toledo(and OSU until a few years ago). The state has forced multiple public universities to lower their admissions requirements in order to help bring in more lower class and minority students. For every one of these students who actually graduates I'd guarantee at least another drops out. It's depressing because it really hurts the reputation of schools that historically bring in good students, like Toledo and Akron. A good idea in theory, but they'd be better off sending the unprepared students to community colleges first like CA does it. But then again, who ever associated straight thinking with Ohio politics? Regardless, you can't take away the great facilities, programs, and spirit that schools like Akron and Toledo still have. Just kind of sucks to see your school ranked next to Cleveland State every year .
  13. I kind of see where zipsrifle is coming from. With all the money that's been dumped into this program, we should be able to at least put up a winning record.Don't get me wrong, I'm coming into the season with high hopes...I guess what I'm saying is..the less we see of Lee Adams this season, the better.
  14. Call me corny, but I kinda like that. If the Outback steakhouse blimp is in any way affiliated with Goodyear then that just adds to it. Ya know, the Athletic department doesn't tap into the whole Australian outback theme nearly enough.
  15. Are you implying a stadium expansion or that no one will care when we keep putting up 5-7 records every year?
  16. This seems to be a recurring issue...
  17. Shh!! They're a historic four corner university!
  18. I've actually asked one of the president' staff members that very question. There is approximately 10,000 students living in dorms or in the campus neighborhood. And that's probably not considering the studetns like myself who will be living in nearby neighborhoods. OU has a total student population of about 15,000. Even if you assume that every single one of those kids lives on campus, they only have 5,000 more than us. We should be able to match their student attendence numbers.Averaging 6,000 a game...not even close. 3,000...I sure as hell hope so. Somewhere in between is ideal. If the program can start winning bowl games every year..or atleast qualifying for them, then a 6,000 student average is probably within range. Akron has a good sized population of students in the campus and sorrounding neighborhood. Atleast comparable to most other campuses across the country.
  19. That's what I was referring too as well.
  20. I'll second that.
  21. I tried getting into "The Bear Cave" forum months ago. I guess they must've had one too many "what sort of field surface will be used on the new stadium" type arguments. Or maybe they're just not patient with trolls from other teams.
  22. Oh don't worry about them. They aren't going and neither is anyone else because the crime is so bad around campus. Oh, and also because the parking is so bad. And because tuition is too high. And because the city is ugly. And because the university is killing the area around campus. And because...well...you get the point.
  23. My high school had the rubber/sand infill installed my junior year. That stuff is awesome! Before that, we had that AstroTurf crap . Whoever thought that garbage was worth playing on was an idiot. . I got so many turf burns on that growing up. All that it was good for was long punt bounces .
