I saw Zenel today. Big.

Ok. Went to watch the scrimmage with Zipgrad01. I hope I don't steal all his thunder by posting before him and that he will weigh in with his thoughts as well as any other board guys that may have been there. First of all, JB53, JM5, NC58, MM90, CH34, JP76 & JC7 did not play. I know I am probably missing a couple more notables, but these I remember. Kyle Pohl played 2 or 3 series. His arm looked good. Scrambled a little but picked up a first down on one occasion. I have to believe if he stays healthy we are in great shape @ QB. MTB1 looks like the real deal. He made some nice grabs and showed some moves after the catch. I am hoping for big things here. The first time seeing Mizell on the field was a jolt. We shall see what he can do when game time rolls around, but he passed the eyeball test with flying colors. On one occasion, poor Stephen Ericksen got absolutely steam rolled on a Mizell blitz. Keep your fingers crossed here Zips fans!!! Major stud potential!!! Defensive Line play continues to impress. Capi & James have great athleticism coming off the edge. Great quickness at the snap and great pursuit behind the line of scrimmage. These two also got quite a bit of work playing DT in the "speed package" with Presley & Horner at the ends. I had the opportunity to speak with George Thomas. What a nice & informed gentleman. It was a real pleasure to meet him. I am extremely excited to see the 2013 Zips take the field against UCF. My hunch is that the gap between the two teams has narrowed considerably since last year. So says me, Homer'92.

I would rather travel for an ATM game to Wisconsin, Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson, South Carolina, LSU, Mississippi, or Florida. Just Sayin'. But if we schedule Ohio State, I guess I would go to Columbus and party with Zipgrad01...I don't know...Twist my arm...

I was appalled when I first saw craft beer in cans, but I have changed my mind. Cans are wonderful.

I realize ATM games are scheduled for the pay day, but I hope for attractive locations for those of us who would like to travel to enjoy the game day experience. Columbus is not an attractive location. I vote no.

Picked up a 4-pack of this seasonal and boy is it good. If you like Imperial Stout, this one is right up there with Ten Fidy, Old Rasputin, Yeti & Stone. Get some before it all disappears!

Not being from Akron, I have no ill feelings toward Greater Cleveland. As a student, I had a lot of friends from the western suburbs & had lot of fun times with them there. The anti-Cleveland rants have always puzzled me.

GT's Scrimmage Report Funny he doesn't mention Tom Wistrcill's fine catch on the sideline. Seriously though...I left feeling pretty good about the defense and worrying a little about the offense. Best part of the scrimmage was a couple more slobberknocker hits from Jatavis Brown. Kid's got a nose for the ball. I cannot wait to see him punish someone in a game situation.

I attended the evening practice tonight. Hard to tell a whole lot from this practice but a few things stood out. Pohl & Hirschman both looked good throwing the ball. Hirschman was a little inconsistent, though. I witnessed MTB1 make a pretty nice grab on the far sideline as he was being interfered with. The other freshman WR, Wolf was not on the field. The BYU transfer, Phillips was there and practiced but was not in pads so no contact. I don't know when or if CJ Mizell is coming but I will tell you we have 2 good LBs in camp right now. Jatavis Brown & Justin March are looking good and will lay a lick on you. DeonTae Moore & Jerome Lane both looked very agile in drills. Hopefully, they will get their grades where they need to be. Looks like we have some depth at DL. Presley, Caponi, Grice, Horner, Capi, Hollis, McCrea & James mixed it up in the 2 deep. Isaiah Williams is still on the offensive side of the ball and actually looked pretty darn good at left tackle with the 1s. The new punter can boom 'em, but looks inconsistent. Glad I went, but now I have full blown football fever.

The pre-season poll is out. The Zips reported for camp today. I think the time has come...

I am a person who loves the football uniforms of my youth. I liked jerseys that didn't tuck in. I liked sleeves. I liked it when teams wore fishnet practice jerseys on game day. These are the unis I long for. Those days are gone forever. Now everybody wears skin tight jerseys that are basically a stretch tube with holes for your head and arms to stick through. I am just not into the looks of today's uniform at all. That being said, I think the Zips should do whatever they need to do to the uniforms to create buzz for prospective recruits. Everyone who says that we don't want to attract the kind of athlete that would be influenced by something as insignificant as a flashy uniform is forgetting all the silly things that influenced them when they were 17.

Oh, shut up.

+1 I was thinking about it last night and concluded my anti-Rittman bias was definitely showing. I am going to try and keep an open mind until I can see Dennis first hand when the Falcons play the Indians this fall.

This is a bit puzzling. I am all for UA bringing in talent from Wayne County, but I must be missing something here. I hope I am wrong.
