@PB1719, Jatavis Brown. Where is he?

SJSU instead hired Mike MacIntyre who also went 1-11 his first year... But then he followed with that up with a respectable 5-7 campaign and finished his 3 year tenure with a 12-1 record culminating with a bowl win and a BCS ranking of 24. <<sigh>>

I'm hoping to see L.T. Smith emerge as a big playmaker this year.

Some recommendations: Stone Imperial Russian Stout Stone Expresso Imperial Russian Stout (Try both) Uinta Dubhe Imperial Black IPA Sierra Nevada Narwhal Imperial Stout Fat Heads Gudenhoppy Pils Southern Tier Live Sierra Nevada Hoptimum Imperial IPA All of these were delicious and I would definitely buy again. I was in Columbus for some training in May and I visited some local breweries... Columbus Brewing was a pretty dumpy place, but had an outstanding beer, Sohio Stout. They need to bottle and distribute the stuff. Put me in mind of the OBC's Steel Valley Stout. Elevator Brewing is housed in a magnificent old building on High Street, but the beer I had there was anything but. Dirty Dick's Nut Brown was not good. Sour. Reminded me of that bomb that Anchor made, Breckles Brown. North High Brewing was a neat little place in an old corner post office. No food, but a killer stout on tap. The guys at North High gave me directions to walk east through a not very nice neighborhood to try out Seventh Son Brewery. I risked my life to get there. They were closed. I hate Columbus. A few weeks ago I visited Millersburg Brewing. I had the sampler of all their beers including a couple of porters. My favorite was the wheat, if that tells you anything. Not worth the trip. From Millersburg, I decided to drive to Wooster to check out the brewpub there that goes by JAFB. I had the coffee porter which was ok, but was REALLY coffee heavy and I had the Wayne County Stout that was just plain awful. They named the place right. Just another effin brewery. Not worth the trip either. The coolest thing there was the automatic glass washer. I am really looking forward to going to Hoppin Frog sometime this summer. Anyone been there yet?

I am with Jason. I am ready for some football. This is a fun thread to go back and read again. I have certainly become much more bullish on the Zips than I was back in January. The 13 schollys (which was a bogus number) had me scared to death. Nothing much matters until we see the results on the field, but on paper the staff has done a masterful job adding to the roster. I have to give props to ZTZ on this thread. He called me out on being a chicken little and he was right. Who'd a thunk it would be ZTZ leading the way out of Trepidation Forest? Now...Excuse me...I have some dinner waiting...

4 forced fumbles, but gets beat on every play, huh? Mr. Capi doesn't look like much of a run-stuffer, but he sure was getting pressure off the edge. I understand you are primarily a basketball fan, but your little dig at our defensive line really pisses me off and a true Zips fan wouldn't go there.

I like the view from the hill he uses for his Twitter avatar. Kid seems genuinely excited to be a Zip.

In this case, blood is thinner than water.

Sure does.

Everyone knows undersized cornerbacks never amount to anything.

Hoppin' Frog tasting room is open! And you can see what's on tap at taplister. Pretty sweet.

George Thomas' story Future's getting brighter. Naysayers find a place to hide because the Zip football renaissance is in the pipeline! :gun: I hope dreal still frequents the board because my machine guns are for him. Let's all hope we can hold on to as much of this current staff as possible for as long as possible. Way to go A.J. Milwee!

Short article from SB Nation. Link Timeline of his recruitment. Link

This is fantastic news. A top-notch commit like this might draw in some others, no? I think I can feel momentum building.

Will the next person who hears ANYBODY excusing Alex Abreu's behavior, point 'em out & get 'em out of here. YOU DON'T GO TO CAN'T STATE, YOU GO TO AKRON!!!!

It's not as if the staff is putting all their eggs in the transfer/juco basket. They are recruiting as well as possible. The staff is high on Zach Guiser coming in. He was described as a 4.3 student who is a gym rat. That is the kind of player they want to recruit. Smart with a great work ethic. We have a staff now tasked with filling a lot of holes and I think they are doing a great job. The last coach ran so many people off that they couldn't even run a proper practice, never mind have any depth to effectively compete in an actual game. It is not hyperbole to say that Rob Ianello almost killed off Zips football. Bowden & staff came in and took on a very bleak situation and it took a lot of guts to do that. Coach Bowden said at the dinner that he knows how bad the fans want to win, but he also said to understand that our desire pales in comparison to the staff's desire. If other schools come calling for Coach Bowden's services, it is because he turned around a program that was on life support. I would be extremely sad to see him leave for greener pastures, but... If that happened, it would be the first time in the history of our program that someone wanted to poach our coach.

I could not agree more. Bringing in DW13 was a fantastic decision and I hope that someday people will look back and say that Dalton was the beginning of the turnaround for the Zips. The hand-wringing about bringing in transfers is a real laugh. Competition is a good thing. Everyone doesn't get a trophy for outstranding participation in D-1 football.
-
Coach Bowden is addressing lack of depth. He said so last night. The Zips are woefully thin at some positions and the staff is desperately trying to bolster the lineup with some guys that have played at the D-1 level. That is called smart. Much better to try and address your weaknesses with this approach than to cross your fingers and hope that we don't lose key players to injury. If the holes aren't filled, the Zips are in huge trouble. How can you survive if you lose Kyle Pohl? Pughsley? Grice? Presley? Caponi? You can't. Coach Bowden is smart. The only "blue-chipper" that may put an existing player's playing time in jeopardy is C.J. Mizell. Whether or not C.J. even makes it to campus has yet to be seen, never mind how he will fit in and perform. Jamel Turner was a blue chip guy coming out of H.S. and he hasn't stolen much playing time from anyone to date.

Very nice! I want one! -
Nice talk in the clubhouse this evening. Coach Bowden spoke along with Coaches Amato, Buckley and Woodford. Learned that there are some nice additions in the works. Keep your fingers crossed that everything pans out. I was already excited for the '13 season, but I left even more so. Go Zips!

I have my fingers crossed for Zeke. As I watched him during his time as a Zip, he definitely put some big grins on my face. I wish nothing but the very finest for him and I hope he gets a big payday. All the naysayers can go to Hell.
