Is it alright to have an opinion at this point? I am sure there will be some more facts discovered.

Buzz pulls no punches. As it should be. This has to be one of the most disturbing disgusting stories in sports history. All those who were chastised for "rushing to judgment" in previous posts are owed an apology.

Synthetic turf conversion now reaching area high schools
K92 replied to ZippyRulz's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Ashland installed artificial turf a few years back. I'm not sure how many schools in their conference have made.the switch. -
I had 2 bottles of local IPA's this weekend. I had Fat Head's Head Hunter and Brew Kettle White Rajah. Although I am no hop head. I really liked White Rajah. Head Hunter was a bit extreme for me. (I know, I'm a wimp) Head Hunter is the only thing FH has put into 12 oz. bottles so far. I vote they do Bean Me Up next. I got an email from FH on Friday that they had 3 Floyds Apocalypse Cow and Arctic Panzer Wolf bombers available, so I was going to buy one of each to cellar until tailgate season to share with some of the lot 9 hop heads. No such luck. There were sold out within 2 hours of the email bomb.

Group A takes off the "hate blinders". Group B pull their heads out of Brutus' ass. I'd say the odds are pretty even.

If every conference champ made the playoffs, would we see expansion in reverse with second tier teams in power conferences looking to join mid-major leagues for a better shot at the post season?

INteresting fact about professional soccer
K92 replied to Spin's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Sometimes attendance numbers can be a little misleading as well. NASCAR claims to have 17 of the top 20 best attended sporting events for 2011. (Couldn't find the list) Spouted numbers look strong, but NASCAR is a shell of its former self. -
Ed doesn't look like a de-committer. He looks like a fierce Zips warrior.
-
I'm hoping he plays both ways.

You could be right, Skip. The selection process may just turn out to be a complete farce and totally political. TCU was a top 4 ranked team in '09 & '10 under the BCS process at that time. That may not happen again going forward.
-
TCU probably would have made it in 2009 & 2010.

A little more info on Mr. Stockett: According to this article, he decided not to play baseball this year, for the first time since age 5. Also says he has pro-set skills but is playing in McKeesport's option offense. (Video must have been 2 minute drill?) linky

There is one thing I like about this verbal straight off the bat...2 other schools wanted him. Things are looking up!

Alexander Gives First-ever Mention to ZN.o
K92 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
A case can be made for "rooting" for Toledo, BG, Miami, Ohio, EMU, CMU, EMU, BSU, NIU, & Buffalo. If it makes you feel good to pull for a team in your state or a team from your conference, that's cool. To each, his own. Personally, I pull for the Zips. On the other hand, I do not see any way possible to ever want to see Can't do well. I realize there are local ball players on the Can't team. Big Deal. They chose our rival. They chose our rival whose fans refer to us as the Zits. Or Crackron. They wear t-shirts that say "Screw the Roo". They look down their collective noses at us and think we are a glorified community college. To me, rivalry is a precious and valued thing. Rivalry is good for any school's program, especially if both schools are performing at a high level. I realize the best thing that could happen for Zips football, my favorite sport, would be for Akron and Can't to be battling for the MAC East every year. If a potential trip to Detroit was on the line when the Zips and Flashes played, that would be extremely beneficial for both of us. Even though that is a very desirable outcome, I still don't want to see Can't State football do well. Can't do it. (No pun intended) If any Can't fans were wishing our soccer team well, they were not very sincere or they weren't very invested in the rivalry. Those fans must not have felt the pain of the recent (pre-Ianello) football woes. Those fans must not be die-hard Flash fans. Besides, who really wants well wishes from a rival fan base? It doesn't make the thrill of victory any sweeter or ease the agony of defeat. How many Can't fans were rooting for the Zips against Ohio back in March? How many of them were behind the Zips in the NCAA against ND? Hopefully not many because they shouldn't. -
As a kid, I remember reading an article with Bob Golic when he came to the Browns. He was asked about the transition from LB to Nose Tackle and he said he liked it because it was a lot like wrestling. It was all about leverage. That interview always stuck with me all these years, so I am excited about a successful H.S. wrestler coming to play on our D-line.

Bitter member of the venomous minority. That's pretty funny. -
Mine is a serious question.

Hopefully this signing will open the floodgates.

The soccer versus baseball popularity pissing contest doesn't surprise me at all. 2 out of 3 Zips fans rooting for Can't does.

When will some WR file the first personal injury lawsuit against a QB who threw him that high pass across the middle into zone coverage in full stride that resulted in a crushing blow from a headhunting DB? Shit's gettin' ridiculous.

Saw this on zerohedge, of all places. Some of the comments made me giggle.

I do not golf, but I am very glad I attended. I visited in the morning with friends, bought a couple of Zips jerseys and then hung out until everybody returned for dinner. Luckily, for me, Coach Amato doesn't golf either, so I got a chance to talk with him at length in the clubhouse. There were quite a few interesting surprises while talking to him. I would say, in general, that this coaching staff has come to a very different conclusion in evaluating the existing talent in this team. I realize there are new philosophies on both sides of the ball and some of the players may not fit in as well in these new schemes, but I think there are going to be some fairly huge changes in what personnel we see on the field this fall. Talking with Coach Amato is very easy. He is very direct and straightforward. I feel very fortunate to have spent the time with him and would encourage any of you to approach him if you have the opportunity. After dinner Coach Bowden addressed the crowd with a nice little speech. After he was done, Joe Dunn started reading off ticket numbers for the raffle and Terry was sitting at his table all alone so I decided to go talk with him while I had the chance. I introduced myself and told him that I wanted to let him know just how much I appreciated that he made the decision to come to Akron. I am not really sure why, but when I said that I kinda got a lump in my throat. I think he could tell how much I love my Zips and told me in a personal manner what he has been saying since he got here. He said he and the staff are going to do everything they can. He wanted me to do everything I can. He said when camp opens, the doors are open. He wanted to see me at practice and he wanted me to bring a friend. He said he thought it is very important for the Zips to win a game or two early in the season that they aren't supposed to. He said that will get people's attention. We probably only chatted for 3 or 4 minutes but he said a lot in a short period of time. I was already a Bowden Backer before Monday but he really personalized it for me that day. The man definitely has some charisma and I think I have a crush on him. Great day.
