Agreed. Easy to dislike someone who is a coach of your rival who is having success you’ve always wanted, but we’ve found that’s all it was. Coach Groce has been 110% class in every way since he’s been here.

The core will have 2 more years after this. The sophomore designation is accounting for the extra year with Covid for the likes of Freeman, Tribble, Ali, and Dawson. X and Wynn would be seniors next year.

I’ve been down on Clarke all season, and I think there is still some silly stuff to clean up, but have to give him credit for hitting some BIG shots last night. I hope he carries the improvement to the tourney and into next season. We need it.

Reading the KSucks message board this lazy Sunday while I wait for the selection show. Comments are all over the place, but they mention us, as Akron fans, throwing ice cubes at players and blowing whistles during play. Has anyone ever heard of this? Another item re the video even though the suspension didn't really make a difference considering the final outcome - I do wonder how it got out there. The first place I noticed it was the Zips_United twitter account, but don't know if he grabbed it elsewhere or what. Regardless, all of this just adds to the rivalry and I love it.

Not much else to say about last night and this season. Incredibly proud of this team. Staff and players both did an amazing job handling adversity. It feels like not only the basketball program, but the University itself got the monkey off its back last night. Its been too long, but the future is bright at Akron! Buffalo, Toledo, and Kent to go dancing. Incredible on its own, but this is John Groce...we aren't done yet!! And whenever this journey does end...we get the same team back next year with an offseason to develop and more scholarship players coming to boot!

Another good point for sure. Whether its Dawson, Tribble, or even Clarke out there in his place - either alternative is a better defender, which should help with the penetration issues we've had in the other meetings.

Some random thoughts before I try to be a little productive before heading downtown... Trimble no longer being on the team is going to take away Kent from being able to park Carry on him. I have to imagine he was easy to guard camping at the 3 pt line, which gave Carry more energy on offense. No mas. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I don't recall Tribble being the primary defender on Carry in the first 2 meetings. I hope that changes tonight. Even so, my recollection is that Kent ran a lot of pick and rolls to get mismatches..like Aziz on Carry. Aziz's minutes going down with Wynn playing more at the 5 when needed should help with that. We need Freeman to stay out of foul trouble. Plain and simple. I'd also feed him as much as possible. I don't think he missed last night. Need probably an above average game from either X or Ali on top of that. On paper Ohio would have scared me more than Kent, but Kent has had our number this season...which probably has me a little more worried than I should be. Still, tough to beat anyone 3 times in a season. Go Zips!

Won't happen, though I think any of the top 5 could knock somebody off. We do need to somehow work together as a conference to get this done though. That would be huge for the conference.
