  1. Walk on before anyone comes on here and acts like the world is falling. Looks like we may be replacing him with a former NIU quarterback.
  2. i think 5 year initial contracts are pretty standard. Doing the math in this article, we gave Bowden a 5 year deal initially. https://www.foxsports.com/other/story/akron-football-coach-terry-bowden-receives-contract-extension-112113 Jim Mcelwain was given a 5 year deal. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/2019/12/05/central-michigan-coach-jim-mcelwain-no-one-has-contacted-him/2614839001/ Sean Lewis was given a 5 year deal. http://www.kentwired.com/sports/article_e0c5dc3e-e90c-11e7-a597-97420013e357.html
  3. Nice go see us get back to getting commits from guys with offers from other FBS schools. Beat out Kent is this case.
  4. I'd rather have 75 players given full value scholarships than 85 players at 90%, which we operated at and will be operating at this year unfortunately. Why would anyone come here if they could get a full ride somewhere else?
  5. Just saw on the news that Walsh is going to offer free first semester room for incoming freshmen and transfer students. I think we'd be smart to offer that..maybe to a lesser extent, like transfers only. I imagine there is quite a bit of occupancy in the dorms considering they were built for a 30k college. Heck I'd even do it up until dorms are at full occupancy again (if ever). Any minimal additional costs like electricity would be more than offset by at least a few years of tuition. Getting enrollment up is priority #1. Let's get a little creative.
  6. Reminder: Groce finished tied for last in the MAC his first year, didn’t do much better his second year, and was picked to finish 5th of 6th in the East this year although they were thankfully able to break through. Rebuilding takes patience and I really struggle to value anyone’s opinion who is writing him off after a season.
  7. We lost a few in recent days - one to Ball State and a few to Kent State. If the Universality's financial troubles were constantly on blast, the financial commitment to the football program was regularly under public scrutiny, and the school is cutting athletic programs, would you want your kid going here to play if there were other options? The program has enough systemic challenges it has to deal with on it's own. Piling on only makes it more difficult for the student-athletes and coaches currently here busting their asses to have success.
  8. Why is football the "problem" but not other sports? None of them profit. Why stop at football..why don't we cut them all? Two-thousand something average attendance for a MAC Championship basketball program sucks as well.
  9. Quite hilarious to me that people bitch about "wasting money" on what I can only imagine relates to firing a head coach before his contract is up, yet call for "holding them accountable", which I can only imagine means firing - which would result in paying more people who don't work here. Talk about compounding the issue. If the soccer folk want to make their way onto this page and attack the football program - Arth is the 9th lowest paid coach in FBS. We just gave Jared Embick a fat raise to make him one of the top 5 paid soccer coaches in the country. NCAA soccer is dying and nowhere near the draw FBS football is. Where are we wasting money? https://www.boydsbets.com/highest-paid-college-football-coaches/ https://www.beaconjournal.com/sports/20190208/ua-mens-soccer-coach-jared-embick-to-receive-raise-after-declining-louisville-offer
  10. Just went back and listened to it. He sounded like an uneducated idiot. Our coach is paid middle of the conference - and the middle of the pack is much closer to the bottom than the top. The stadium and field house were built over a decade ago...not crap anybody can do about it now.
  11. Hey...cut him some slack. 1 out of 5 ain't bad! ?
  12. Football has been something like 10 under the limit for at least last year and this year due to NCAA limitations.
  13. Just relaying what was reported. Possibly (probably) a typo. https://gozips.com/news/2020/5/14/general-redesigning-the-univeristy-of-akron-athletics-update.aspx
  14. Per the University, we are now at 17 sports. I don't really understand why we kept 1 more than we need to if I am being honest considering the situation.
  15. If I had to pick 3 and it gets us there from cost cutting standpoint, its hard to complain too much with the choices. Get to keep track, swimming, football, soccer, and basketball. Nice job. Of course its sad for all the student athletes and coaches who lose the opportunity. Hopefully we will at least honor the scholarships of the athletes as we otherwise would. One thing I do have to complain about is we just completed the near campus tennis facility a few years ago. That seems to be pretty much a waste now. Tennis program did spend quite a bit on travel and international recruiting, though.
  16. We should have never added baseball back and lacrosse, considering out financial position. Maybe its on Williams (I don't know), but my view from the outside was that was primarily driven by Wilson.

  18. ^^ I see the self serving academia nerds are trying to ruin sports just like they ruined us getting Tressel as president, accelerating this embarrassing mess we are in.

  20. I wonder how they'll go about scheduling. Hopefully us playing the likes of Buffalo, Kent, and OWho every year is preserved. 20 game schedule means you'd theoretically played 10 teams twice, so there would be one team you wouldn't play annually. Wouldn't make too big of a difference - but it would be nice to see some strategy behind the scheduling for NCAA tourney resume. Ex - projected/prior year top team doesn't play the projected/prior year worst team.
  21. What about Clemson and NMSU? Seems odd UMASS would be cancelled but not Miami. Maybe the MAC is looking at a conference only schedule this year?
  22. I fail to see how this link shows that my statement is factually incorrect.
