  1. Clemson still has 9/19 open and slated as the date they will play their non-conference game (which is the date we are supposed to play them). However, no team is listed, where multiple other MAC schools are listed on other teams' schedules.
  2. A lot of commotion over what is likely a walk on QB. Sheesh.
  3. Definitely. On the assumption we have 17 in this class - give me 2 more OL, 1 RB, 2 CB, 1 OLB, 1 DL, and 1 QB. Maybe sacrifice one of the previous mentioned for another TE as we are thin there and the rugby player is probably a gamble. I'd wait for the season to play out to go in too strong on a QB. Need to see what we have in the players that aren't Kato before deciding if we need to bring in a transfer or roll with the underclassman currently behind him. As far as I know, we currently only have 11 OL on scholarship (7 of which are freshman or redshirt freshman), which seems incredibly low.
  4. Nice film. Looks like we beat Kent St as well (of course). Thats 4 WR for this class we have now. Have to think that will be it.
  5. This article reminded me of this post. https://slate.com/culture/2020/08/liberty-university-falwell-black-athletes-football-sports.amp?via=homepage_taps_top&__twitter_impression=true
  6. FWIW, B&G, i think its closer to 16 than 20. I'm not sure any players listed that aren't high schoolers will be on scholly outside of Mumpfield, Kelley-Powell, and Jankowski. Kelley-Powell may also count as this year as well. I suppose we will find out for sure come December!
  7. Per his twitter, Oran also had offers to New Mexico, Toledo, Liberty, and Kentucky.
  8. Only if that video is year(s) old. That video was posted on July 12. Many of the players weren't even on campus yet, let alone in pads, not social distancing, practicing inside, etc, etc. If it is related to us, shows how much respect our players had for the prior coaching staff and why we had so much turnover last year getting rid of the players who aren't culture fits.
  9. Coaching staff seemed pretty pumped to get Gathings. We were the first to give him a D-1 offer last year, but he also picked up offers from Kent and BG in that time, along with a handful of FCS schools. Looking at his tape, MTB came to mind for some reason.
  10. Not that I have a real opinion of Miller yet, but I'd like to know what went wrong with Matthew Wilson. He seemed to turn the tide after the Scarborough disaster by patching some financial holes at least temporarily and brought people together. My guess is the board or the faculty was the issue.
  11. Majority of the MAC is refusing to publicize, so I don't know. Many across the country have. No nerve struck - just pointing out the fact that many subsidize athletics (with students doing most of it) in exchange for our entertainment. There is no surplus anybody is benefiting from (at least in G5) by playing. If there was, our program wouldn't be thrown under the bus constantly right now.
  12. Many players have contracted the virus. I don't believe any have "suffered" more than they would with the common flu. Lets be clear here. Akron football and many other football programs operate at a loss. The majority of the program funding comes from regulars students who pay tuition. I don't have a problem with it because I love athletics, but have no money (profit) to gain by playing football.. Even the Big 10 schools are going to lose a crap ton of money by playing. Wisconsin is projecting a 60-70mm loss if only conference games are played. College football gives many students a chance to get an education for free when they otherwise wouldn't and even become pro and change their family fortunes for generations to come. Enough with the "sacrificing athletes for money" bs. Many like to try to speak for the players when in reality they have no idea what they want. If given the choice to keep your scholly and enhance chances to go pro and play the game you love vs minor chance of contracting a virus with an incredibly minimal chance of causing death for somebody in that age range, I know what I'd pick.
  13. Without a doubt. When is it going to stop!?
  14. And the number of schools fielding soccer programs is continually decreasing. The sport is literally dying at the collegiate level.
  15. https://www.beaconjournal.com/news/20200723/university-of-akron-to-form-athletics-task-force-to-review-costs I think the findings will be that the costs aren't that extravagent (outside of Embick's salary) compared to the rest of the MAC/G-5 conferences, in fact, likely lower than the median.* *Outside of the football stadium which nobody can do anything about, was needed and made financial sense at the time it was built, and is significantly cheaper than what it would cost to build today.
  16. Buffalo isn't scheduled to play in OH until 9/26. I hope we don't cancel everything just so the Canadians don't feel left out.
  17. I don't disagree. Your statement was in regards to the players putting themselves at risk.
  18. Has any single college athlete who has tested positive died? The risk to a healthy college-aged athlete seems incredibly minimal. For every Trevor Lawrence there are 10+ players looking for the chance to prove they are cut out for professional football and change their and their families lives for generations.
  19. Worth taking a look at. We aren't even as bad as some others in our conference let alone the rest of the nation. We just get the publicity because the football team and university's recent failures. https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances
  20. AFAIK we lost our best OL to graduation and the 2nd best to Auburn and haven't brought any upper classmen transfers in. Coaches must be really banking on the others who contributed last year getting better and their red-shirt freshman OL.
  21. https://www.elevenwarriors.com/college-football/2020/07/115150/mac-commissioner-disappointed-about-lost-non-conference-games-but-expects-strong-relationship-with-big-ten-to-continue
  22. They might be contractually obligated to pay. What argument do they have not to play/pay when they are going to go ahead and still play their conference games as of now? P5 is the one breaching the contracts. Even though they might have to pay, they are still likely coming out ahead financially by canceling the games. Don't have to deal with game day costs and they likely aren't missing out on ticket revenue. The more I think about it, I'm pretty confident G5's will at least get a substantial fraction of their payout in whatever channel they have to go through. A P5 being proactive and paying may think they are doing it for good PR or whatever, but realistically they are just avoiding a bunch of legal fees + eventually paying out by doing so.
  23. Rich Hall, who I was high on as freshman from performance in the spring game, is certainly becoming well traveled. Akron year 1 -> Indy CC year 2 -> NMSU beginning of year 3 -> ??
