Dylan Meeks in the transfer portal. He was a higher rated recruit who never seemed to really find his way here, though he did start last year. Best of luck to him. https://247sports.com/college/akron/Season/2021-Football/TransferPortal/

Anyone see Iowa cut 4 sports?

So worst case scenario may be coming to fruition, at least for another year. We may get to 95-100 scholarships, but other schools may be at 100-110. Especially MAC schools where many aren't able to be drafted. Why not take another year to get your masters and one more shot at playing at the next level? Always behind the 8 ball it seems.

His biggest competition is likely Donovan Peoples-Jones (returner) and Khaderal Hodge (primarily ST specialist who Jojo actually beat out in LA last year). I believe he actually got a few reps with the 1st team yesterday. In other news - the MAC is already having discussions for the spring. Props to them as they seem to be leading the way on that rather than waiting around until the last minute like everybody did this time.

2020-2021 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward
LZIp replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Nothing happening in November means no chance to see us upset the Buckeyes. 2020 is the year that just keeps on giving. -
Also offers to UMASS, Toledo, and BC per his twitter. https://247sports.com/Player/Dillon-Porter-46101026/

i'll be very interested to see how the whole scholarship issue ends up playing out, and i'm not counting on a spring season. Its pretty clear there isn't going to be college sports until there is a vaccine. I don't believe these conferences will be able to prevent breakouts if they attempt to play a fall season. Spring season will be most "advantageous" for us I think if they don't move up the 85 scholarship limit. We in theory should be able to get transfers who can contribute immediately with next year's class and be at or closer to 85 (don't want to go in too heavy on upperclassman). If they start giving exemptions for the limit or get funky with the number for a year or two we are really in the same disadvantaged spot we are now. Also not a fan of the 25/year limit...I believe we have that thanks to the big schools cutting players. Probably helps us some how big the staff is on culture and accountability. Also gives us some more time for our extremely young team to get a little older.

where's he gonna go?? Nobody below us is playing and he sure isn't going FBS. IIRC we did bring in a scholarship punter last year (Kyle Romenick).
-
IIRC, we just cut 1/4 of our athletics budget, including 3 sports permanently. We did downgrade!

Here is his senior hudl highlights. 15.5k views. https://ww.hudl.com/video/3/5398077/5a14dca19677df09288dfcbb

Its one positive fellas. Multiple other programs have had 20+ and are still planning to play. Prayers to the player.

Clemson still has 9/19 open and slated as the date they will play their non-conference game (which is the date we are supposed to play them). However, no team is listed, where multiple other MAC schools are listed on other teams' schedules.

A lot of commotion over what is likely a walk on QB. Sheesh.
-
Definitely. On the assumption we have 17 in this class - give me 2 more OL, 1 RB, 2 CB, 1 OLB, 1 DL, and 1 QB. Maybe sacrifice one of the previous mentioned for another TE as we are thin there and the rugby player is probably a gamble. I'd wait for the season to play out to go in too strong on a QB. Need to see what we have in the players that aren't Kato before deciding if we need to bring in a transfer or roll with the underclassman currently behind him. As far as I know, we currently only have 11 OL on scholarship (7 of which are freshman or redshirt freshman), which seems incredibly low.

Nice film. Looks like we beat Kent St as well (of course). Thats 4 WR for this class we have now. Have to think that will be it.

This article reminded me of this post. https://slate.com/culture/2020/08/liberty-university-falwell-black-athletes-football-sports.amp?via=homepage_taps_top&__twitter_impression=true

FWIW, B&G, i think its closer to 16 than 20. I'm not sure any players listed that aren't high schoolers will be on scholly outside of Mumpfield, Kelley-Powell, and Jankowski. Kelley-Powell may also count as this year as well. I suppose we will find out for sure come December!

Per his twitter, Oran also had offers to New Mexico, Toledo, Liberty, and Kentucky.

Only if that video is year(s) old. That video was posted on July 12. Many of the players weren't even on campus yet, let alone in pads, not social distancing, practicing inside, etc, etc. If it is related to us, shows how much respect our players had for the prior coaching staff and why we had so much turnover last year getting rid of the players who aren't culture fits.
-
Coaching staff seemed pretty pumped to get Gathings. We were the first to give him a D-1 offer last year, but he also picked up offers from Kent and BG in that time, along with a handful of FCS schools. Looking at his tape, MTB came to mind for some reason.

Not that I have a real opinion of Miller yet, but I'd like to know what went wrong with Matthew Wilson. He seemed to turn the tide after the Scarborough disaster by patching some financial holes at least temporarily and brought people together. My guess is the board or the faculty was the issue.

Majority of the MAC is refusing to publicize, so I don't know. Many across the country have. No nerve struck - just pointing out the fact that many subsidize athletics (with students doing most of it) in exchange for our entertainment. There is no surplus anybody is benefiting from (at least in G5) by playing. If there was, our program wouldn't be thrown under the bus constantly right now.
