Can't get in his face Banks

Haven't looked at the stats, but seems like we are shooting pretty abysmal from the FT line tonight. Looking like it will cost us at this point.

UMASS has some nice guards.

doodoo end to the first half. doodoo start to the second.

Next year is a new year. We saw what CMU was able to do this season after going 1-11 the year before. A lot of the younger players are going to get bigger and stronger. Coaching staff and players should learn from their mistakes. Recruiting class is good for Akron standards (especially considering the circumstances).33% roster turnover on scholarship players. Let's try not to be too negative about next season until there is a reason to be.

Game 10: Zips -v- EMU - Nov.12, 6:00 p.m.

EMU also had another player get kicked out earlier in the game from spitting in a Pitt player's face. Pretty embarrassing if you ask me. They did compete well, however. -
Games 11 and 12- DC Holiday Hoops Fest Tournament

Listening to yesterday's game was fun! Cannot believe we came through in the clutch. I didn't really know what to expect coming into the season. We won't ultimately know until conference play, but I think Zips basketball might be 'back'. -

Ball State knocks off Georgia Tech. -
Those numbers are very fluid, I wouldn't pay too close attention until a week or so after the 2nd signing period. However, if those numbers did stand, it would be the highest ranked class since 09 (per the presser). Its actually more impressive now considering there are more FBS teams. Not bad considering 0-12.

Fixing the Zips - 2020 Recruiting Edition
LZIp replied to LZIp's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
For fun - what we've done so far compared to my wants: QB: (1) 1 freshman (-1 transfer) RB: (4) 2 freshman, 2 transfers. (+1 freshman, +1 transfer) WR: (1) 1 Hicks (counting him as a transfer) (-2 freshman, +1 transfer) TE: (2) - 1 freshman, 1 transfer. (no difference) OL: (3) - 3 freshman (-2 transfers) DL: (3) - 2 freshman, 1 transfer (no difference) LB: (3) - 2 freshman, 1 transfer (not going to attempt to guess if they will play inside/outside, -1 freshman, +1 transfer) DB: (3) - 1 freshman 2 transfers (not going to attempt to guess where they will play, -2 freshman, -1 transfer) -
I haven't watched the presser yet, but looking at our commits/signings, it looks like we had 4 players who were committed who haven't signed - all JUCO players: DB Eric Scott (appears he flipped to and signed with Southern Miss) DL Jaquan Green (unsigned) S Kenny White (unsigned) WR George Qualls (unsigned) We signed 20, including Julian Hicks (apparently wasn't on scholly last year), per Gozips.com. 10 are early enrollees, which I think would help getting up to speed and contributing. So there are 5 spots to fill. Off the cuff, I lean towards 2 WRs, 1 DB, and 2 "best available" out there that might fall through the cracks.

I'm with you both that i'd like to see a transfer (or two) on the OL. However, with the signing of 4 true freshman, that doesn't seem likely at this point. Let's hope the starters returning from last year are at least marginally improved. I also believe there were 2-3 freshman in last year's class (in addition to Gray), that are hopefully ready to contribute next season.

Cole Gest is a surprise. Looks to be a grad transfer from Indiana.

reading into that, I have to imagine his chances of ending up in a Zips uniform have taken a big hit.

Games 11 and 12- DC Holiday Hoops Fest Tournament
LZIp replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Unsure how good Vandy is supposed to be, but Liberty beat them last night. I agree, this tournament should give us a good gauge on how good we will be come conference play. -
No commits for the Zips, no more players entered the portal, and no players who entered the portal have committed anywhere yet. I did see Devanier Floyd got an offer from Tiffin.
-
Unsure is on scholly or not, but this is Warren Ball's little brother.

Did anyone predict Robbie Kelley as a Heisman contender? https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/e89iti/akron_backup_qb_robbie_kelley_is_currently_in_8th/

very much needed IMO. Only one scholarship RB on the roster right now, and they are unproven.
-
Kyshad Mack in the portal. He couldn't get on the field this year and we were his only offer so....have to imagine his time in FBS is over. https://247sports.com/college/akron/Season/2020-Football/TransferPortal/

Seriously. One photo of a coach yelling without context?! That's an incredibly soft comment and a reach. I immediately thought of Saban throwing a tantrum in the Iron Bowl Saturday as a counter example. I recall Hicks getting kicked out of a game, can't remember which one, and Arth going straight to him and sternly talking about the incident and why it can't happen. There was no screaming in a situation that would have 100% warranted it.I have met the man, though not in a football environment, but I have also observed him throughout the year, and based on what I can see, Arth's demeanor does not strike me as a blow hard at all. I will say 94zipgrad's comment about being him "too much" did catch my eye though. He's proven that when he says something, we should listen. Is that feeling a result of Bowden not having control? Or is Arth being a control freak and having days scripted and expecting kids go to class, have good grades, etc not common at other places? My guess would be the former. Arth has disciplined players at the expense of the team throughout the year and the team had the highest ever cumulative GPA in his first semester. We all want results on the field - and thats what he's paid to get - but molding young men to be successful citizens post football is pretty damn important too.

We had plenty of discussions about this during Bowden's last season. It just doesn't happen in CFB, but we do now have at least a partial case study in our very own conference Frank Solich's contract expires on 1/3/2020. https://www.thepostathens.com/article/2019/11/ohio-bobcats-football-frank-solich-contract-extension-renewal-amendment Even with them being the standard in MAC East the past decade or so, they are currently ranked 11th in the conference in recruiting, less than 1 point from last place. https://247sports.com/Season/2020-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/?Conference=MAC Whether he ends up getting extended or not, will be interesting to see what effect what looks to be a down year in recruiting does to OU down the road.
