  1. I have to wonder why there weren't some serious hours being put in right after this first happened? Numerous other schools have lost their HC after ours and have already found a replacement.
  2. That account better be taken with a grain of salt, imo. All of their "news" seems to be reported almost right after the same thing is posted on this site. As for the Chargers WR coach, I remember a media person brought his name up at the beginning of the process. I don't recall who, however.
  3. Interesting take considering this happens literally every year. See this year with NDSU's coach going to K State and last year with Scott Frost going to Nebraska, among numerous other examples. I hope that isn't holding Larry up. Regardless, you don't have to let the public know that you are interviewing someone/are taking an interview.
  4. Of course hiring the right guy is most important, I hope my post wasn't interpreted in any other way.
  5. Not unexpected, but still sucks. We need to end the coaching search ASAP and stop the bleeding.
  6. bunch of damn floppers
  7. Post from the UT-C message board: "I heard Arth and Akron have come to terms." Who knows how reputable the poster is, however.
  8. Nice talking point. My initial thought is why are we so sure that Mount and JCU always have vastly superior talent to their opponents? Mount, while they do have a great reputation, is in the middle of nowhere. JCU is in Cleveland, but there is plenty of competition here with various universities. Capital and Otterbein are in Columbus. JCU has a solid reputation as well (London Fletcher and various guys on NFL staffs/Front offices), but the program definitely improved significantly when Arth was there. They were a .500 team before he became HC and were one right after he left (though this year was better). Lance Liepold, Buffalo's coach, previously from UW-Whitewater, was the equivalent of the Kehres coaches at Mount Union. I think he's shown that it *can* be the coaching, as that hire seems to be working out alright for Buffalo. Maybe I am wrong, but we seem to be in a fickle spot. I don't think we can't afford top coordinators at big time programs any more (Yurich at OK St, Getsy at Miss St) with our financial situation and the ridiculous inflation of P5 assistant coaches, unless they want to take a pay cut. Buffalo having the success they are makes me feel better about a dominant coach at the D3 level. Arth's lack of success at the FCS level is something that should be questioned, but if its explainable then its explainable. I've read he just got his OC from John Carroll back on staff, who just finished a season 4-0 as interim OC at EKU (another FCS school), so I would think his offense will look better no matter if its with us or UT-C. He also fired a few other coaches who weren't getting the job done, something I'm not sure TB ever did. His stop at the FCS level before coming to FBS could have been the perfect place to get his feet wet with taking it up a notch and recruiting. Hopefully the learning curve has flattened out for him if he is indeed the guy. He seems to have the respect of a lot of people. I'll support whoever, assuming the hire doesn't come out of left field somewhere, like the RB coach at Texas Tech or something (looking at you BG). I just hope Larry W does proper due diligence and at least interviews a few different candidates.
  9. Let's go Zips!
  10. TB took our program to the highest level it's ever been by just about any measure you want to look at. Sh!t, its the end of the season and Northwestern played in the B1G championship and is ranked! Saying any chump could've done it is ridiculous, because nobody else has. TB did a great job getting our program back to its peak, we just need a new guy that can take us up a level, because unfortunately the peak is pretty depressing. There is quite a bit of talent on the roster (assuming the new coach can keep it). The recipe is right to take the program up a notch and do it quick.
  11. I haven't heard the exact dollar amount, but Joe Dunn said the same thing about a settlement with an agreement to come back in the future on the link I shared yesterday in the candidates thread.
  12. FSU's OC, Walt Bell, took close to a $100k pay cut to be the head coach at UMASS. I think if he really wanted to he would come and we could offer a package that makes it worth it.
  13. Let's do some very simple math. Say average attendance increases a whopping 3k in the new coach's first season here due to a new excitement with the program. The cheapest ticket to get in is $15. Let's say the average ticket price is $20. $20 * 3,000 * 6 = $360k. That isn't including concession revenue either. Bowden's buyout is $300k, IIRC. His buyout will be paid for in the first year (not even including the donors who have apparently helped fund the buyout). You're also assuming the new coach will be paid equal or more than TB. That won't be the case if someone like Arth comes in. Bottom line - you're being hyperbolic.
  14. Reddit thoughts on the Arth rumors: https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/a36jwn/sources_former_john_carroll_football_head_coach/

  16. Can you share the link to the UTC message board? Arth doesn't appear to be a slam dunk on paper, and I would like a better understanding of the drop off (if there is an explanation). In my reading, it may be in part due to him not having his JCU OC, which he just got back. Arth was on the verge of making JCU a Mount Union level program, and nobody has had an issue with the thought of Kehres. He's been a QB in the NFL. He's shown to be able to recruit, at least at the FCS level. There can be a learning curve moving up. Arth at the least has shown improvement. I haven't seen any slam dunk on paper. The board's favorite (I suspect because he played and was successful here) isn't that great either. No prior HC experience and the offense regressed under him, and that offense doesn't appear on paper to be a fun one to watch. I'm willing to listen, research, and give anyone a chance as long as they have some qualifications, because we aren't going to get some surefire guy like OSU. I hope the rest of the board and fan base is willing to do the same.
  17. Come on Cap'n...whats that got to do with LW?
  18. That author isn't very good at directions.
  19. Bro, nobody was really discussing anyone 20 hours ago.
  20. Have you seen his record at JCU?
  21. i don't think he is suggesting adding additional scholarships.
  22. Mississippi State's offense (who returned a ton of talent from last season) looks like this for 2018: 70th in the nation for total offense, 175 yds passing/game, 226 rushing yards/game, 29.1ppg. The QB rushed for 1,000 yards, leading RB rushed for 700 yards, leading WR had 385 yards. 2017 (prior to Moorhead/Getsy): 43rd in total offense, 167 passing/game , 252 rush/game, 32ppg.
  23. Anyone else dropping the $6 to watch the game tonight? I'm undecided. Interesting fact - IPFW actually lost to probably the only other team with a Kangaroo mascot in their last game on December 1st (UMKC). Here's to hoping we can make it two in a row,
  24. I guess I should have clarified better. Before him, the previous coach won at least 9 games in their last 2 seasons, where Arth won 3 games and then 6 games. Going from 3 to 6 is obviously a good sign, but I wonder where there was such a drop off in his first year taking over. Many members of the board will like this - when first hired at UT-C, he had only 2 months to put together a recruiting class. It ended up being one of the top in the FCS and the highest rated in the Southern conference.
  25. Thanks for sharing, Zach. I've been jonesing for some news. I just realized I've met Tom Arth at a Pro Football HOF event that was actually honoring Brad Dickerson, CFO of Under Armour at the time (and UA business school grad). Arth also played for legendary Coach Kyle at St. Ignatius. Obviously winning the OAC at JCU over Mount Union is a great accomplishment. I don't know enough about UT-Chatanooga, but looking at records, there has been a noticeable drop off in his two seasons there.
