Pohl has been the starter for two seasons and has been in the program for over 4 seasons now. I have zero issue with the coaches seeing if we have better. I don't see a revolving door at all. It also goes both ways. You can look a few hours south and see that a QB (freshman) in his first season went 11-1, and a QB making his first 3 starts beat Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon to win a national championship. You have to trust the coaching staff, and I don't really see why we shouldn't.

You mean Northeastern. They looked pretty good last night. Size will be a huge issue vs Kentucky though.

Hopefully MTB not being on the two deep is like the Kincade situation. Moreso not there because of other talent, rather than himself. I doubt it's that way, however.

Even if their football team does well this season, they are still spending some time being indepdendent. I can't think of a team who has accepted an invite in the offseason and was in the new member conference the next fall. Takes time to adjust things for the new conference. Same for UMASS. If they have games scheduled, they are going to have to cancel those ($$)/play them out until contract expires. Surely they wouldn't risk going into a season with no games scheduled.

I know someone on here said he got a raise a few days ago, but is this new? http://campuswatch.buffalonews.com/2015/03/25/ub-reaches-agreement-in-principle-on-new-contract-with-bobby-hurley/ If so, good for the MAC and Buffalo.

Thanks. What you are saying is mostly in line with what I have read. Though, its more or less semantics, but Elton says its closer to 1 million per school. I also did some research on James Madison and came across some interesting tidbits. Subsidies increase an average of 1.2 million when reclassifying from FCS to FBS. James Madison also expects that I move to FBS would result in an increase of 2 million/year in donations. I cannot find anything regarding the whole athletics budget for JMU. Using my math, 400 difference in the tv contract, 1.2 million in subsidies, and 2 million increase in donations, this puts their athletic budget at 20.3 million. That isn't considering the University's additional commitment to athletics that would come with a move to FBS. However, debating minor math is besides the point. The point is that they are a lot closer than many on here are making them out to be, and certainly capable of hitting some minimum threshold if one were to be set. I think its a good fit in the sense of competitivness, making more money (better draws, local rivalries), and savings on costs (travel) for the whole conference compared to someone like UMASS or JMU. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/index.ssf/2014/08/new_mac-espn_deal_features_foo.html http://businessofcollegesports.com/2013/10/21/should-james-madison-university-move-to-fbs/

What would their athletic budget be if they were getting MAC tv money from ESPN/Time Warner?

From an unbiased perspective, I'm in favor of adding YSU.

Time will tell.

That's depressing.

POLL: How satisfied are you with the 2015 FB Class?
LZIp replied to K92's topic in Akron Zips Football
That's insane. He's class of 2015 so he's a late signee. Has to be a story behind it. Smells fishy. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/highschool/soccer/broward-girls/fl-mcfadden-signs-miami-ohio-0321-20150320-story.html -
This is timely given the context of the discussion. Jeff Goodman @GoodmanESPN 14m14 minutes ago Bradley has fired Geno Ford, he told ESPN. What next for Ford? At least he got paid, but not really given that he had to pay 1.2 million back to Can't St. In 4 seasons, he made 2.8 million. Would have made 1.2 million at Can't St. With the 1.2 million owed, the career decision only netted 400k and is now unemployed.

Thanks for sharing. Informative article. I was only thinking he had 2 years of eligibility, glad I was wrong! Probably doesn't mean anything, but I was surprised Pohl is current 1st on the depth chart. Wouldn't have that feeling when considering all of the info we have. I'd assume its just a formality.

Does this somehow relate to the Zips or am I missing something?

under "Zips formerly in the NFL" it appears Domenik Hixon is now running a deep sea fishing charter. I'm jealous! http://www.superbowlfishing.com/p/fleet.html

#TeamOhio just won another national championship this year.

It may be narrow minded and there are obviously exceptions, but stats prove it is largely true. I can't find the article and it is a different sport, but I remember reading that a large majority of programs that make a bowl game also do the next season/did the prior season. I think its a safe bet that its also the case for college basketball in regards to the NCAA tournament. You said it yourself. If Hurley doesn't take the job, its because there are other options. Because DePaul isn't that attractive of an option (if you're concerned with factors other than money and your goal is to be a top college coach).

Paying any money to host a women's NIT game doesn't seem like a smart financial decision to me.

The Importance of Giving Ohio.com Hits

Balsy- I just use adblock, but disable it for websites that I value. -
Do you view Rutgers or Fordham as attractive jobs? You can bring up conference and location all you want, but a shitty program is a shitty program. There's a very low chance you are going to take a bad program in a good conference and win. Therefore not a smart move. I'd rather make a career decision more on absolutes than what-ifs. Leaving Ohio for Illinois is a smart move. Leaving Buffalo for Depaul isn't, in my eyes.

this just poppped up on my twitter: Jeff Goodman @GoodmanESPN 3m3 minutes ago DePaul also considering Buffalo coach Bobby Hurley, source told ESPN.

30 years ago maybe. Program has one winning season the past decade.

I don't know if Williams was even as good as some are making him out to be. Williams was smart, was a leader, and had extensive familiarity with the system. That's about where it ends. He had obvious physical limitations such as mobility and arm strength, and even with as bad as our defense was, we still only won one game (zero against FBS competition). You don't need defense to win in the MAC. Hence the term "MACtion". With that said, I feel all of our QBs that have played since then have been more talented than him, but just not the leadership or smarts.

I think thats the only way he should leave with the exception of some elite "mid-majors". The DePaul's and Bradley's of the world aren't really worth leaving for and taking the risk. IMO.
