at UConn - Saturday November 2
TennZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
How far away do you live from Big East semifinals site? Akron vs. Georgetown would be a good game to watch in person . Of course, both teams need to get wins at home on Nov. 9th. -
DePaul men's soccer twitter says that they will be playing in the Big East tournament
-
agree completely with you they must get a win in the quarterfinals while today's game was being played, Akron was 26 in RPI after the tie, Akron is showing at 29 in RPI (RPI as of 4:25) DePaul is 93 in RPI Marquette is 113 Georgetown is currently 12 Zips must get a home win.......on Saturday November 9 losses to IU_indy (currently 146 in RPI) and Temple (currently 111 in RPI)...are really hurting the zips

akron will host DePaul next Saturday (using MD Zip analysis) DePaul 5 Butler 3 Creighton 5 Marquette 2 both Marquette and DePaul finish with 8 points MD Zip analysis If DePaul wins (they have Butler) and Marquette and Xavier lose, DePaul gets the 8 seed because their best result is a win over Creighton. Xavier loses 1-0 to Providence St. John's gets 2 seed with 2-0 win over Georgetown

This article says that the last Akron vs. UConn matchup .....was in 2005 https://uconnhuskies.com/news/2024/11/1/mens-soccer-huskies-host-no-13-akron-on-senior-day.aspx -

https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=21&articleId=53982&articleTitle=best-of-mens-college-soccer-week-ten Player to Watch: Emil Jaaskelainen, Akron He is far from a secret, but what Jaaskelainen is doing this season deserves an isolated look. The graduate senior leads the country with 20 goals, six more than anyone else. Add the seven assists, and Jaaskelainen leads with 47 points, 14 more than the closest competitor. The British forward has been the best striker in college soccer while also peaking at the perfect time, with 17 of those goals coming in the last nine matches for the Big East regular season champions. Identified as a preseason transfer to watch, adding the two-time NEC Player of the Year from Long Island has clearly been a success for the Akron Zips. It must be the tips he learned from his father, Jussi Jaaskelainen, an English Premier League goalkeeping legend who played more than 800 matches.

Zips were number 24 in coaches poll last week they rocket this week up to number 13 https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/

https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-national-rankings/men Akron up to #15 in top drawer soccer rankings Ohio State is #1 and High Point is #2 Western Michigan has no losses......(6 ties) and they are below Akron in the rankings

Below are the current records of the 7 Big East Teams that the Zips have played Butler 4-9-3 Xavier 4-7-5 DePaul 5-7-3 Marquette 6-6-4 Creighton 8-5-3 Villanova 1-9-5 Georgetown 8-3-5

really nice run up the field by Ashton Kamdem on this goal beautiful unselfish pass by Dyson Clapier.... I think that Dyson leads the zips in assists with 8.... so glad that Dyson and Malik returned to school

the most important thing.....is no yellow cards for dissent. This group currently has a ton of momentum. I would have the guys start but I would probably get them some rest in the first half. Also pull them in the 2nd half if there is a 2 goal difference in the score. Finishing 8-0-0 in the regular season....should definitely impress the NCAA soccer committee.

as of 11:15 pm, the zips were #24 in RPI...so Akron dropped a little bit from Wed. night RPI of #21 Marquette is currently #113 in RPI.....so they did not help the Zips strength of schedule UConn must not have played a tough non conference schedule UConn is currently #76 in RPI

Seton Hall defeated Xavier 1-0 Xavier would need a miracle to get into the tourney current standings Akron 21 2. Georgetown 16 3T. Providence 14 3T. St. Johns 14 5. UConn 11 6T. Creighton 10 6T. Seton Hall 10 8th. Marquette 8 current also rans DePaul and Xavier have 5 points...... Butler at 3 and Villanova at 1...have been eliminated all 6 games next saturday start at 2 eastern Georgetown at st. Johns Xavier at Providence Villanova at Seton Hall DePaul at Butler Creighton at Marquette Akron at UConn if Creighton and Marquette, Marquette would finish as the 8 seed and play at Akron on November 9 I would expect Seton Hall to beat Villanova If Marquette were to beat Creighton next Saturday (and Seton Hall wins or ties), Creighton would drop to 8 seed and come to Akron on the 9th I will let someone smarter than me.....figure out what happens if Marquette, DePaul and Xavier tie for 8th with 8 points I hope that Georgetown wins or ties next Saturday....I would like them to be the 2 or 3 seed and be on the opposite side of the draw from the zips
-
really nice work by Malik to get free....to make a great pass for the assist on Emil's goal. Malik has really worked hard and has improved a great deal during his time at Akron.

Saturday afternoon games Providence 1 Villanova 0 Providence moves up to 14 points with a 4-1-2 record Providence finishes their year on Nov. 2 with a home game against Xavier Villanova drops to 0-6-1...and is eliminated from being one of the final 8 UConn and St. Johns played to a 1-1 tie UConn now has 11 points...with a record of 3-2-2 St. John's now has 14 points with a record of 4-1-2 St. Johns can now only possibly reach 17 points.....so they can not beat Akron (already 18 points) for the #1 seed in the conference tournament Georgetown mauled DePaul 4-0 DePaul has 5 points with a record of 1-4-2...their Big East tournament hopes are on life support DePaul's last game is at Butler Georgetown moves into sole possession of first place in the East Division with a 5-1-1 record (16 points) if they win their last regular season game (not an easy game....Saturday Nov. 2nd at St. Johns), they would finish with 19 points Georgetown is the only team....that has a very, very long shot of being the top seed in the conference tournament (Georgetown would need to win its last game and have Akron lose its last 2 games). That is not going to happen...as the Zips will win tonight against Marquette. Akron has 18 points after playing only 6 games. A win tonight at Marquette would give Akron 21 points and would give them the top seed in the conference tournament. in the 4 pm conference game, Creighton currently leads Butler 3-1 ...19 minutes left in the game A win would push Creighton to 10 points with a 3-3-1 record Creighton plays at Marquette next Saturday A Creighton win today and next week...would probably bump them up to a 6 seed in the conference tourney

game was at Marquette - 2013 round of 32 - NCAA tournament game real temp was somewhere in the neighborhood of -5 to -10.... I was at the game.... wind chill was probably closer to -25 to -35 field was almost frozen solid Jake Fenlason was great at stopping shots...but did not have a strong leg against the wind, his goal kicks did not reach midfield Marquette had a 6'8 centerback......they used that guy for long kicks due to the leg of the 6'8 centerback....the ball was mostly played with Akron defending their goal Akron freshman midfielder(sometimes known as VS8) let the ref know all game that Marquette was getting the advantage on calls... game was 0-0 after regulation.... in OT, Reinaldo Brenes was taken down in the box....No PK was called VS8 let the ref know(as the action was continuing) that was BS Marquette won 1-0 on golden goal.... after the game, the rather feisty zip midfielder gave the ref an earful.....with some physical contact. feisty midfielder was rewarded with a multi-game suspension at the beginning of 2014 season and a 2 game suspension from NCAA tourney games in 2014.... and yes, I thought that a PK should have been called when Reinaldo went down in the box did I mention that it was COLD !!!!
