TennZip replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Merry Christmas to the best college soccer fans...Akron zips soccer fans tweet that showed up on bigsoccer.com from a.totera Source also confirms to me NCAA standout Richie Laryea also being pursued by Mexican side Tigres #Cmnt Wow smile Canada our young players -
http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer/college-national-top-100/men Richie at #4; Adam at #9 and Victor at #20 and to think that the MAC coaches did not even list one of these young men in their top 22... Your Akron zip soccer family....knows how good you are , Victor ....and we are also very impressed by your fantastic GPA. Congratulations to Richie, Adam and Victor

I saw this morning that the Clemson coach was selected as the national coach of the year. That got me to wonder if Jared Embick had been selected as one of the 8 regional coaches of the year. I found out that he had not been selected as one of the 8 regional coaches of the year I suspected that Akron was considered either Great Lakes or Midwest....but I did not understand how a coach from a school in Elon, NC....could win the midwest coach of the year or how a coach from Georgetown could win the great lakes award NCAA Division I Region Name School East George Kiefer South Florida Far West Jeremy Gunn Stanford Great Lakes Brian Wiese Georgetown Midwest Chris Little Elon Northeast Charlie Inverso Rider South Mike Noonan Clemson Southeast Scott Calabrese Florida International West Peter Fewing Seattle I had to go to the players all region teams to determine that Akron is in the great lakes region ....along with Creighton and Georgetown http://www.nscaa.com/2015-nscaa-ncaa-division-i-men-s-all-great-lakes-region you will see 2 akron players on the first team all region, 4 creighton players and 4 georgetown players ( I also find it implausible that Andrew Souders and Victor Souto did not make the top 33 in the region....but I am getting off track) So, the Georgetown coach was selected over Jared Embick and the Creighton coach as the region coach of the year http://www.nscaa.com/rankings/4159/NCAADivisionI/men/PreseasonPoll I then went to the preseason poll to see how Akron compared to Clemson (national coach of the year) and Georgetown (region coach of the year). Georgetown finished 2014 at #5 in the country. They were preseason #3 this year and they finished #8 this year. The regional awards were announced on Nov. 30 so the voters did not yet know that Akron would defeat Creighton on Dec. 5. Akron was not in the top 25 at the end of last year. Akron was preseason #25 and ended this year at #3. Clemson ended 2014 at #11 and was pre-season #11 this year. Of course, they ended at #2. Obviously, Coach Embick , the Georgetown coach and Creighton coach Elmer Bolowich are all great coaches and someone is going to get overlooked with the 3 of them being in the same region. I was greatly impressed by the great coaching job done by coach Embick and his staff this year. Awards or not, Akron has a great, hard working, innovative coach No disrespect to the clemson coach or the Georgetown coach...but I just wanted to say Great job, Coach Embick.

Travis Clark usually has very good sources. With Richie's speed and skill, it is not surprising that MLS is quite interested. If both Adam and Richie decide to go the pro route, I wish them well and thank them for a combined 5 years of hard work and highlights on the Cub Cadet field. That being said, I would be ecstatic to have 1 or both of them return to the zips sideline. Both players have improved greatly during their time on campus. The improvement of the entire team from August to December was fantastic. Early in the year, none of us could have imagined that a back line of Andrew, Danilo, Brad and Nate would hold Jordan Morris and Stanford scoreless for 110 minutes in the college cup semifinals. Goncalo and Victor were also obviously huge factors in the defensive improvement. The coaches found the right personnel and the excellent strategies. I still think that Akron soccer will be in great shape if either Adam or Richie returns next fall. Coach Embick has two top 40 recruits coming in (a midfielder and a forward) and some of you have spoken highly of the young Canadian recruit from Sigma. Coach Embick and his staff have been tireless over the past few years in finding good international talent so I know that they will deliver some additional talent (hopefully, a speedy outside DB and a quick as a cat goalie...We zip fans can be greedy ). I think that Coach Embick's aggressive style should be very attractive to potential recruits. If I were a talented outside back, midfielder, or forward and saw a tape of the Akron-Rutgers game, Akron would be #1 on my college list. Coach Embick has shown clearly that Akron will be a force to be reckoned with on the national scene and that soccer players will improve their games at Akron. Soccer is a hard game and it is extremely hard to get to the final four....but I firmly believe that the wait will be shorter than we think. I feel very fortunate to be able to follow a top notch college program like Akron soccer.

http://www.nscaa.com/rankings/5056/NCAADivisionI/men/Poll13 they need to revoke the vote of the 1 coach that voted Clemson #1 zips are #3 in the final vote by the coaches

University of Missouri-Kansas City was the host university. Beautiful facility....most of the seats are covered but it sure was empty. Next year's tournament is at Houston's MLS stadium. Probably looking at similar situation next year.

http://www.ohio.com/editorial/meet-the-expectations-for-ua-soccer-1.642398 since I live in TN, I normally only look at the Beacon sport pages on line so I missed this op ed column. A friend e-mailed this to me a few days after it was published. This was published on the Sunday that the zips played Rutgers. I wanted to wait until the season was over to post. I really liked the nuances that the writer picked up...with positive comments about players like Andrew Souders and Victor Souto for not ever being out of position...and for regaining possession and playing defense. The players and the coaches should be very proud of their outstanding achievements this year.

well said, Mark. Jake was phenomenal in his last game. Senior Sean Sepe came in and played well. Best wishes to the seniors and thank you for all that they have accomplished for the soccer zips. This team was not even in the top 25 after the first week of the season. This team exceeded my expectations. Tremendous improvement during the season. The players and coaches have a tremendous amount to be proud of. Best wishes to Oliver Slawson ....He will be greatly missed. The soccer zips have a bright future with Jared Embick as our coach. Great season, Zips.

Another Gem by Marla Ridenour
TennZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
this soccer team has certainly been a tremendous bright spot for the university thanks for sharing this article -
good points....I have criticized them for no coverage and Terry Pluto did write an absolutely sensational article about them that was great coverage and publicity I am so excited about this team...that I probably did have a knee jerk reaction to a little negativity. I will give credit to the Plain Dealer for paying to send someone to the land of oz. Hopefully, 2 more wins will increase Mr. Alexander's investment
-
that is almost 800 miles to KC, KS in a bus....wow.... lots and lots of credit to all of the rowdies making the trip
-
the plain dealer has not covered Akron soccer all year....and suddenly this guy is an expert? saying that the zips don't handle physical play well and that Jake needs to avoid mental lapses? GRRR !!!! How about writing something positive like 1) Jared Embick and his coaching staff has done a great job ; 2) This team has improved so much during the season due to their great work ethic and tremendous desire ; 3) 13 players on the MAC all academic team ...sorry, Mr. Elton Alexander....I think that Marla Ridenour is writing circles around you http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/index.ssf/2015/12/akron_should_expect_physical_p.html#incart_river_index

Did anyone attend the sendoff event Wednesday at 1? (sometimes living 635 miles from Akron ....is not good ) I hope it was well attended. Which players spoke at the event? Go, Zips !!! 2nd Star !!!....Looking forward to seeing everyone in Kansas City and seeing this group of outstanding young men and their excellent coaching staff fulfill their destiny.

I have tried to listen to this twice....firefox has crashed twice around the 5 minute mark...so I have not been able to listen to the full 8 minute and 45 second interview...The first 5 minutes are good. I am very glad to hear that the team is in good health and that Sam Gainford is greatly improved..

Adam Najem Focused on National Title
TennZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I did not want to create another topic for another good article by Marla Ridenour. She does a nice writeup for Thursday's paper on Richie. I am very glad the other school fell through. That other school is very, very good this year. Richie has really made tremendous improvement this year and he is fun to watch....and is very hard for other teams to matchup with. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/university-of-akron-soccer-richie-laryea-uses-fiery-emotions-to-spur-zips-but-sometimes-sees-yellow-1.646340 -

I agree....she is a very solid writer....and I greatly appreciate the coverage in the Beacon Journal. -
I thought I had seen a stat that Stanford was 7-0-2 when Jordan Morris was not with the team. I went to their schedule and printed a box score for the Santa Barbara game....shows Jordan Morris in the starting lineup...but only taking one shot in the game http://www.gostanford.com//ViewContent.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30600&CONTENT_ID=1387035

http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index.php/articles/885-2015-college-cup-the-final-four-tale-of-the-tape 39 goals scored for Stanford...15 allowed 56 goals for Akron..29 allowed

Article by Marla Ridenour at Ohio.com Adam Najem isn’t the type of person to be affected by the slight. The junior midfielder from Clifton, N.J., has been the Zips’ best player since he arrived in 2013. In his career, he’s scored 28 goals and contributed 24 assists and UA has compiled a 48-13-5 record and reached the NCAA Tournament all three seasons. Yet Najem wasn’t selected Mid-American Conference player of the year in 2015....
