  1. one thing that I have to mention about this great group of seniors....5 of the 6 last December.....were named to the academic all MAC teams. Of the 5, two had 3.69 GPAS, one had 3.73 in a very tough major (mechanical engrg) and one had 3.83 (and English is not this very smart young man's first language) and the great Tyler Sanda had a 3.93 GPA in biology. These young men are truly student athletes....that bring great pride to the University of Akron.
  2. A tremendous group of seniors. The two four year starters (Victor and Adam) have had incredible careers....with many more wins in their future. http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/releases/20160814fj3oy6 "The first few days of training with the heat have been a little bit more inconsistent than we want, but the trainings have been intense," Akron head coach Jared Embick commented. "Monday is for perspective of where are we at based on an opponent in Oakland, who won its conference, and will be a good measuring stick. What we're looking for as coaches is to see where we have to go and how we have to improve heading into the opener."
  3. http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/roster all 12 new players are listed now on the roster. I misspelled the zips new portuguese midfielder's first name yesterday. Manuel Cordeiro is listed as a redshirt junior.

  6. In my previous post, I tried to name the players. I want to give a tremendous amount of credit to Coach Embick, Leo and the entire staff. They have done a tremendous job recruiting this year and in past years. I am really looking forward to seeing this team take the field. The Akron zip soccer program has a great coaching staff and the team continues to be a super positive part of the University of Akron. Keep up the great work....Jared, Leo, etal.

  11. It looks like zip forward recruit Jonathan Lewis(#7) got his 2nd start in the two exhibition games for the under 20 mens national team I have not seen a box score yet to see how many minutes that Lewis played. The under 20 team defeated New York Red bulls II. I have only been able to find that Sebastian Elney of Maryland scored one goal. Very impressed that Jonathan Lewis started both games and I look forward to seeing him this fall on cub Cadet field.
  12. article from the under 20 mens national team website it looks like #7 ....and zip recruit Jonathan Lewis started and played 64 minutes I think that the under 20 training is done on Aug. 8 so Jonathan should be able to join the zips in time for the first practice with the coaches http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2016/08/05/19/43/160805-u20mnt-blanks-new-york-cosmos-2-0-in-training-camp-friendly

  14. http://americansoccernow.com/articles/young-yanks-gather-in-new-jersey-for-training-camp article about the under 2o team training zip recruit Jonathan Lewis received a favorable mention Ramos was satisfied with the team’s effort: “It was a very good game. We played well.” He also added that several of the players who were with the team for the first time adjusted well—citing specifically Gutjahr and Kendall SC’s Jonathan Lewis as particular standouts.

  18. from zips.com about the ranking http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/releases/20160803g296l0 "I'm happy to be recognized as one of the favorites heading into the season," Zips' head coach Jared Embick commented. "I hope this creates excitement around our team in the community and with our students and fans. The expectations with this ranking will only push us to be better as we have one goal and that is to be No. 1 at the end of the season."

  20. http://www.onceametro.com/2016/8/2/12324648/running-with-the-herd-nyrbii-bonomo-suspension-najem-advances-usl Adam Najem advances to PDL finals Though the New York Red Bulls U23s will not be in the PDL Championship game this year, the club will have one representative in the form of academy grad, Adam Najem. Instead of playing for the U23s this summer, Najem chose to remain closer to his school, Akron, and joined the Michigan Bucks for the summer. Najem has played 11 of the team's 14 regular games this summer and leads the team in assists with 9. He has also played in all three playoff games where he has contributed a goal and an assist.
  21. Brad Ruhaak with an assist in the semi final game tonight. Adam and Brad's team led 1-0 at halftime.
