  1. Nice coaching JD
  2. As far as arm tackling is concerned, players are now coached to attempt arm tackles to try and strip the ball from the opponent. Although I have seen it accomplished, I have also seen it more often than not become a bust. And I have vieewed this in high school, college and pro games. I am of the persuasion that I would rather see a runner wrapped up for a 2-3 yd. gain rather than get 6-8 yds. because a defender was trying to strip the ball. But that is my opinion, and I am not a coach. Just a fan.
  3. Damn. I'm gone 10 minutes and we score 2 more goals.Way to go Zips!
  4. CYO championships
  5. TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. That's because JD can't make up his mind about anything.
  7. Looks like we still a kicker.
  8. Great defensive stop!
  9. True, but turnovers are still killing us.
  10. thanks Sarge!
  11. Not getting the game on u-verse.
  12. Sorry, ZTZ, you are beating a dead horse and your whining is falling on deaf ears.Truth is that Matt Rodgers was NOT coming around. Play after play he looked like a lost sheep. The college game is way too fast for him at least at this point. I for one had great hope for Rodgers. He was definitely my choice to be starting QB over Jacquemain. Matt just was not up to the task.Eventually even the terribly dimwitted UA coaches became aware of Matt's inability to pick up the reads.Late in the first half they had Nicely warming up on the sidelines. The fans where I sit were even thenspeculating that Nicely was going to play in the second half. And that was before Matt got hurt,All this leads to question just what kind of judgement abilities does JD posses? To me, it goes backto the first Jacquemain suspension two years ago. Since we now know it was for the same issues,(theft from teammates and a drug addiction), one has to wonder why CJ was not dismissed from the team then. This is a college football team. A team comprised of young men. This is not Mother Teresa's rehabcenter. The coaching staff and ultimately the university's lapse of judgement lead to this fiasco. The burden falls on Brookhart. It is the responsibility of the university to replace Brookhart ASAP.In my opinion, the fans clamoring two weeks ago for Brookhart's dismissal were right on target.I agree. I think we have a lame duck head coach that can't or doesn't evaluate talent well and can't make a decision. I am not only referring to the qb position but to our place kickers as well.Like you I saw Nicely warming up late in the 2nd quarter. What impressed at that point was not only was he warming up his throwing arm, he was working on his footwork as well. Although we might win a couple of games the rest of the season, it is nice to know that we have a qb for the future now.
  13. I know you've had it for a while, but maybe you should turn your Zipsnation name over to Tom (you're not Tom are you? )No. I'm not Tom. He hasn't been around long enough.
  14. Let's see. If First Energy were to pony up $10m, same amt. as Infocison, this means that they will have no say in anything. Tell Gary Taylor that. Jake, your info is as skewed as your head. BTW, drive downtown any weekday or evening. The area is becoming more active with students. Why? because of the new housing and the classes that are held in the vicinity. Downtown Akron is just as much a part of the university as the university is a part of downtown Akron. As a side note, the ideal location for a new arena is where the Beacon Journal is currently housed. We all know that they won't be around much longer.
  15. I have loved the idea of an arena in downtown for many years. My only question at this time, is how is the Don going to sell it to the citizens of Akron. He is already being strung in effigy everyday for administering the lay-offs,. Can you imagine the negative feedback from some when he lays this on the table? Regardless, I still am in favor of it and if FE is going to be the major sponsor(donor), that might ease the pain to some. Let's just it done.
  16. Zips over OU.Also, I just found the sheet I had scribbled my prognostications on for the season.I have or had us defeating Morgan St., OU, Can't St., Temple & EMUWe are or going to take it on the chin by PSU,CMU & NIUToss up games are or were Indy, Buff, Syra, & BG.Basically, record wise we are where I thought might be, however, the manner and style of play have been far below any of our expectations.DW & I will be in lot #14 Saturday with chili. Stop by.
  17. It would seem that it was more than a small recruiting violation. I still wish the best.
  18. ZW: I agree with everything you said, except, no coach needs to or must tell the public or fans what they are doing or thinking. However, JD needs to pick 2 running backs and go with them. I am beginning to think that a) JD hates making decisions and 2) he likes to have decisions made by a committee. Eiher way, not a good way to run a D1 football program.
  19. If and I stress if things get worse(how can they), I still would not fire JD until the end of the season. Who are you going to bring in? Will it change the program? All I can hoe for now, if for the Zips to get their heads out of the butts and start playing football.
  20. I don't know how you can say JD and the coaching staff are not the problem or at least a part of the problem? Who recruited these players? Who is making the offensive and defensive calls? Who designs the game plans? Answer the coaches! Yes, our players have to perform, but if they couldn't perform, why did we recruit and sign them. I have heard the say old mantra for the last three years, " The Zips had the best or one of the best recruiting classes in the MAC." If that is the case, then either the players are under performing or the coaches are not doing their jobs. I would speculate that it is a combination of both. We were all giddy with excitement in the spring eith expectations that JD was not going to use or use sparingly the 3-3-5. Well, nothing has changed. He is still using that gimmick defense and other than Morgan St., we have not stopped anyone. Why are we using a stable of RB's. Pick 2 and go with them. Same thing with qb prior to Jaq being removed from the team, we were using 2 qb's. Can't JD or someone on his staff make a decision? Or, have they watched too many Clev. Browns tapes? To save JD's job, the teamMUST go 6-2. Anything less and JD and staff are gone.Yet I still am and will be a true Zips fan.
  21. CK: You're right. I could watched the first half, then I listened on the 2nd half. I won't cover all of the stats, because they are all disgraceful, but the 1 that really jups out at me is, 1 for 12 in 3rd down situations. And I thought this was to be the year of the offensive line? Well not only the OL, but the whole team and staff is horrible.JD is just now deciding that major changes need to be made? Where has he been through out the season?Enough ranting for me.
  22. Running backs coach & recruiting coordinator.
  23. My friend there are no "minor recruiting violations"I agree. And on top of that it brings unnecessary attention to our program.
