Wow, wasn't that one true?
-
Love this post If the U wants to pay me for doing it, i'll set up Ustream for them each game and they'd never have these problems. Then again, they love hiring incompetents so maybe they wouldn't want to break the trend.
-
Ah, denial. And an utter lack of humility or responsibility. Now, (tap, tap, tapping my chin)...how much credibility does this guy have? Well if what i've heard is true and that Dambrot really defended him and that he was suspended by Athletics and not KD. Then maybe this time he really wasn't at fault. Now I wont deny that he hasn't been trouble before.

"Blue and Gold", I talked to one of the organizers for the Turkey Day game and I found out the reason behind the change from Stark vs. Summit to just a Summit County All-Star game. The main reason was due to Stark County already having their own all star game. As you may know, in football the kids are only allowed to play in two all star games prior to their freshman year in college. The organizers (NLSD) didn't want to place so many kids in a situation where they would have to choose between the Stark County game and the Turkey Day game, as many would possibly be chosen to play in the Big 33, North-South game, etc.. as well. Also, a result of having the game being exclusively Summit County also allowed the game include twice as many local kids and give them some more exposure as well. All in all, a pretty good reason i think. Btw, they are definitely going to be having the game again next year.

How did I know RootforRoo would come to his defense? Because, R4R isn't one to jump on the lynch mob over someone stating something that is partially true. We live in a world where "racism" only exists coming from whites. The real wrong here (besides ITZ most likely being wrong on the reason Pitt hired Haywood) is the fact that what ITZ is saying actually happens in the sporting world and real world.
-
I have to say, ITZ's first comment was in no way racist. Politically incorrect yes, but racist no (either way it'd be culturist if anything). The fact is, in today's world, teams/organizations are forced to interview minority HC candidates just to cover their a$$es. It's wrong but it's definitely happening and you're lying to yourself if you believe otherwise. I dont know if that is what Pitt is doing, but i wouldn't be surprised if it was. *edit* looking back, for some reason I thought ITZ said that Haywood "got the interview" because of his skin tone, not "got hired because of it". I still dont think ITZ was being any bit racist but I will be first (or 7th) to say he's wrong.

Plain Dealer on the Zips
RootforRoo44 replied to scottditzen's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Here's some audio from Terry Pluto on the Soccer Zips. btw a mention of how "lousy" our American football team is. LINK -
Couldn't agree more...our bigs have looked lost for the last six years (besides Wood but he wasn't really a center). I think we need to stop this foolishness of pulling our centers out from downlow with the ridiculous schemes we run. It takes us out of position to rebound and a lot of times ends up in disaster when Zeke or Bardo switches up and has to cover their star guard who just blows by them right to the hoop.
-
being out rebounded 41-21. They have 17 offensive boards too. Ugh. I'm a better rebounder than half this team. No boxing out whatsoever. It's disgusting. TERRIBLE basketball...Minnesota has played HORRIBLE tonight and we still are getting killed....not good.
-
ouch, 20-7 run. We are done.
-
ya know, these are the times when i understand not why America doesn't like soccer but why the rest of the world likes soccer more than basketball/football/etc. The officiating in soccer can throw a game with one call but generally they are a lot better than what we have in basketball. The officials in college basketball are horrible day in and day out.
-
third foul on zeke, early in the 2nd half. Zeke: 2 points, 2 turnovers, 3 blocks, ZERO rebounds, 3 fouls. All in 14 minutes.
-
I'm more curious to what kind of drugs anyone with their hand in the air is on.
-
Zips up five at the half even though they are only 1-2 from the charity stripe and have taken 9 less shots than the Gophers (13-27, 11-36). Also been out-rebounded 22-12. Can't imagine what the score would be if we wouldn't have allowed THIRTEEN offensive rebounds in the first half. Though 5-11 from 3-point range is a good way to hang with a team like Minnesota.

Coach Porter Recognition

I can forgive someone not from around here. It's the Akron people that use it as a derogatory term that irks me. -
Thoughts From Around the MAC
RootforRoo44 replied to mes102's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
It's not their fault, you can't get the internet on frisbees or hacky sacks yet. Oh they'll find a way! -
yeah now only if CSU would play someone who's good.

Rowdies were amazing!!
RootforRoo44 replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Definitely. The 'Rowdies sounded great on tv. What if the 'Rowdies would come up with some chants to sing during the basketball game? I think you guys have a nation reputation now as America's soccer hooligans. Maybe carry that over into the JAR. Would that help get some more 'Rowdies out to support the b-ball Zippers? I don't know; those guys singing outdoors is one thing, but indoors might get a little flaming and we don't need that. Bingo...let's leave the singing to the fairies over at Can't State -
So you haven't met any of the people he bought Thanksgiving for, or any of the kids he donated bikes to, or any of the APS faculty or students who he gave new computers to, or any Zips basketball player who he gears up? That's fine. I've met some of all of those people, and they all appreciate what he still does for the city. The hate is strong in this city, but it is temporary. We're still in the break-up stage. But like any difficult relationship, those feelings cool off. And when one side stays devoted even after making a mistake, they eventually get back together. To be honest i have spoken to an APS teacher. Just texted someone I know who teaches on the east side. He said he appreciates the donation and he respects LeBron for doing it. Then again he also said it's all a publicity stunt and doesn't change his views on the guy. He did make it clear that there are others that couldn't love LeBron more though. So i guess you are right in a way, it impacted a few people. But that's about the only way a large group of people are going to start supporting him again anytime soon. He's going to have to personally impact each one of them by throwing money or free things at them. Otherwise, he's a terrible role model and a bad example of what Akron and the metro area should be about.

Why can't our short attention span American minds just love all sports? Hell, a few Winter Olympics ago i started really enjoying the game of Curling. I dont follow it religiously but when my team plays (USA) I will watch it and get just as into it as Baseball (my fav. sport). Essentially what i'm saying is: No use arguing, ALL SPORT is great in some way, you just have to open your mind and not be so hateful. That being said, figure skating sucks.
-
OK so this isn't really off topic because this IS a LeBron thread: I would say that a VAST majority of Akronites do not like LeBron anymore. I would even guess that about 50% hate him. I really have yet to meet anyone who is truly from this area that supports him. I'm sure there are some, and i can understand where they are coming from still supporting him, but most people do not like the guy.

Says who? And Dave from Michigan sounded better too!! It's never been AU and just because morons call it that doesn't make it right. Show some school pride and respect and call my university by it's proper name. Akron U sounds so small time and community college. UA is the way to say it. Sounds better than all the others! Or just Akron. There are many Universities that have the University of .... and they just go by the name. Florida, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, California, the list is long and endless. Florida U, Michigan U, Pittsburgh U, Wisconsin U, Cali U, ....all sound weak sauce.

Welcome the Nat'l Champs back
RootforRoo44 replied to jem101's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Not the team getting back, just the rally. They should be back around 8-830. I'm heading up now. btw, how lame is the U for not having anything official until students get back? Have one now AND when students get back. Why not a parade like everyone else does when they win things? Back in July, South Carolina even had a parade for their College World Series winning baseball team.
