  1. Down to 7. 50-43, 12:19. Grrrrrr.
  2. Crappy start to the half. Zips need to wake up. 42-32, 15:44.
  3. Hustled out of position, resulted in a three point play. Refs are killing the flow.
  4. Good start, iffy in the middle, nice finish to the half.
  5. I'd be content with never having to see another Riak three pointer.
  6. 19-8 Zips at 11:12 mark.
  7. 9-0 start for the Zips.
  8. Torrey Patton helped fill out a decimated roster for the Zips. He's now doing that for CSU. He was co-player of the year with Javon Graves his senior year in high school and they had a great battle in the state final. With the Zips, the kid always played hard and seemed to have a nose for the ball, but had limited ball handling and shooting skills. Looks like he went off to community college and improved his game. According to the CSU website, he's shooting 59% from the field, 47% from the free throw line and 58% from the three point line. I don't think that will continue. He always seemed like a decent kid so I wish him well.
  9. I get the feeling that this will be one of those games where the outcome is never much in doubt yet not one in which the Zips ever get a huge lead like against EMU. Comfortable, but never completely put them away. Zips 71-59.
  10. Hawkins is the Crash Davis of MAC basketball.
  11. Every 50 year old recruit in American knows the Bowden name.
  12. I can take credit (whether or not I said it).
  13. I hate weeknight football and 9 PM tip-offs!
  14. ...and with any luck it will get picked up by some obscure sports network so that it can tip off at 9 PM!
  15. Yes it was. Brian fart. I'm ahead of where I was yesterday when I kept thinking they were opening with Toledo!
  16. Two things that are jumping out to me so far: 1) Everybody is buying in for the whole game. The defense just never stops. 2) They stick to the plan. There are some very basic ways to attack that two- three zone and while they struggled for the first 5 minutes settling in against it they didn't get frustrated or try to force things.
  17. The Zips open the home MAC season Tuesday night with a visit by 8-6 Western Michigan. Western comes to the JAR fresh off of a MAC season opening 77-65 win in Kalamazoo. WMU was predicted to finish 5th in the west in the MAC preseason poll. 6’1” junior guard Michael Flowers was named to the West Division Preseason All-MAC Team and leads the team at 17 ppg. He is shooting over 40% from the three point line. 6’8” junior forward Brandon Johnson leads the team in rebounding at 8 rpg while scoring 15 ppg. Steve Hawkins is in his 19th year as head coach at WMU.
  18. 1 MAC road win last year. Already 1 this year. Nice start.
  19. Zips really shouldn't have anyone in the game of consequence this late. And with that, we get Marquell and company.
  20. Announcers dismayed by Akron vs. EMU's 3 point shooting percentages. That's the difference between uncontested and contested shots.
  21. You just never see that any more. Makes me crazy.
  22. Announcers harping on the Zips high 3 point percentage thus far. That doesn't explain scoring 20 points in a half. That score has as much to do with UA's defense as their shooting.
