  1. I agree Finley was playing under some pretty awful conditions and was given little help by his receivers. I just have to joke about it or I'd get really depressed by this team.
  2. Exactly. Seems like a great kid. I do wish him well.
  3. I thought the 12 man defense was an interesting wrinkle. Unfortunately, the officials were not fond of it.
  4. At 19 of 52 passing I would suggest that Finley is not even a single threat QB.
  5. They'll balance it out by 10 on offense before they're done.
  6. Nice to see Mike pick up with Marshall where he left off with the Zips!
  7. I think the new offensive philosophy was brought into focus by an injured Evan Wilson on the bench in a boot during the Ohio Wesleyan. On more than one occasion I saw him up on his feet urging the team with his arm motions to get moving up the court after a defensive rebound!
  8. I don't think they're playing faster than their abilities. I think they're just still adapting to a ton of new faces and a new offense. In simple terms, growing pains.
  9. The Akron Basketball Classic comes to the JAR November November 22nd through the 24th. Nebraska-Omaha, Alabama State and Lamar are the other teams in the tournament. The Zips play Lamar on the 22nd (6:00 p.m.), Nebraska-Omaha on the 23rd (4:00 p.m.) and Alabama State on the 24th (3:00 p.m.). Here's some info on the Lamar Cardinals- https://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/lamar/article/lamar-men-s-basketball-team-starts-new-season-19893923.php Info on the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks- https://unomahanews.com/2024/11/06/uno-mens-basketball-season-preview-new-faces-same-spirit/ Info on the Alabama State Hornets- https://www.rockmnation.com/missouri-tigers-basketball/2024/10/8/24236000/non-con-preview-alabama-state-hornets-missouri-tigers-basketball
  10. That's the best team the Zips will play in the regular season. Take their lumps, get back to it and move on.
  11. Zips are getting 14.5 points on DraftKings!
  12. It took them over 3 days to report on Guthrie moving on. They'll probably wait to just cut and paste the obit.
  13. Gerry was not a great college head coach. He was a great guy in general. He was 43–53–3 at Akron. Sadly, that's pretty good in comparison to recent Akron football.
  14. The donors are stalwarts like Wentz and Kaulig. Absent the AD making a deliberate attempt to run them off they were always going to be there. In fact, they could likely run an AD off quicker than an AD could run them off. We started Guthrie's tenure with good basketball, soccer, track and field, swimming and diving, rifle...and awful football, maybe the highest profile sport. None of that changed.
  15. Agreed. I think: 1) this may be our strongest opponent of the season; and 2) he may be the key to the season.
  16. PCCC is the only team in the nation to not lead a game this season.
  17. No Enrique on the Mad Ants roster yesterday in Cleveland against the Charge.
  18. I think Gray will be okay. He didn't turn the ball over a lot at Cornell. I suspect he's just been pressing. I predict he'll be a fan favorite by the end of the year.
  19. No idea on Harris, but he was the one "injured" guy on the bench without a brace of some sort. Groce indicated in the post-game that he would be monitored to see if eh could play Tuesday. It had the sound of day to day.
  20. I suspect Joe may want to stay more now.
  21. At the end of the day, I judge Guthrie on where the athletic program is compared to where it was when he came in. I see no progress.
  22. Ohio.com article on Guthrie's departure- https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2024/11/09/akron-zips-athletic-director-charles-guthrie-part-ways-ncaa/76162234007/
  23. I was okay with about every logo for the last 20 years: the kangaroo with Akron Zips across it, the A with the kangaroo head, the Z and the new A. The only one I disliked was the awful script Akron.
  24. 6'4" senior point guard Augustus Marciulionis leads the Gaels at 18.5 ppg. playing a whopping 38 minutes per game so far. He's also averaging 7.5 apg. He's the son of NBA Hall of Famer and former Golden State Warrior Sarunas Marciulionis. 6'8" sophomore forward Paulius Mauraskas is also averaging 18'5 ppg while leading the team in rebounding at 12.5 rpg.
  25. I understand the branding/logo issues are frustrating but I'd be fine with them going full Penn State for a reasonable football program.
