  1. Anderson showed some potential but he had 6 catches in 11 games for 40 yards on a team that won two games. Not a big loss. I wish we could put Gathings mouth the in transfer portal and retain his talent.
  2. I think a primary factor in deciding whether to allow a kid's immediate transfer is the position of the school from which the kid is transferring. Certainly, this is the primary party being potentially injured by the transfer. Here, Butler seems to be a proponent of allowing the transfer.
  3. Two things that jumped out at me from the article- 1) "...certainly we tried to go through the process in a very respectful and professional manner." Time to give that up and turn on the heat. 2) "He is traveling with us to Vegas," Groce said. "... I love the kid." I think that show you the type of family relationships Groce builds with the kids on the team and I think that's fantastic.
  4. I guess the only good news is that the NCAA currently has a limited shelf life. The P5s, especially in football, are already starting to consider a breakaway. Once that occurs, the dominoes will start falling. Guthrie and Miller need to step up here and turn up the heat.
  5. I'd need to have a lot of tequila already in me to pay $70 for that privilege!
  6. The Tequila and Tipoff event must not be receiving much of a response as I have now received 4 emails about it. I suspect people don't want to pay $70 to get 4 samples of tequila and finger food on a Tuesday night in December.
  7. Article on Ali's appeal, his mental health issues and graduation timeline (spring)- https://sports.yahoo.com/akron-zips-coach-john-groce-105501928.html
  8. Buckey is on the ball. To say that was a typical crowd in the 60's is revisionist history. Certainly, the crowds were better but that has to be an Acme Zip game crowd, not a typical crowd.
  9. Youth night on a weeknight in November goes a long way towards being a community asset.
  10. Agreed, but at the same time the athletics programs have to demonstrate some level of financial responsibility rather than be a huge financial drain on an academic institution. Right now, for return on investment, the football program is the worst investment on the campus. I don't expect the program to make money or even break even, but in its current state it's bringing little or nothing to the campus or community other than for the most loyal diehard fans who make it a regular part of their lives. With cockamamie ideas from leadership like neutral site games and seat tarping as proposed solutions, I can't see it getting better.
  11. I know if I lived in Florida I would yearn to go see a MAC team on a weekday night over a weekend game for Miami, Florida State, Florida, Jacksonville State, Central Florida.....
  12. I wonder about how good the young recruits actually are when I see so many questionable starters and the young kids never seeing the field.
  13. OSU paid YSU $800,000 to play this season. I assume the Zips will make a similar amount plus a large payout from Kentucky for the buyout. I suspect UA may reconsider if someone's willing to cut them a check for a million or so. I don't like them getting peeled and being the sacrificial lambs, but hell they're getting peeled by MAC teams for free. Of the litany of things that are wrong with this program the schedule is one of the lesser of my concerns.
  14. Guthrie's football experience is showing: Clark College- no football San Francisco State- no football since 1994 Wisconsin Green Bay- no football University of Akron- well....
  15. According to box score the attendance was 6152. Umm......uh huh.
  16. Solid adjustments.
  17. 14 to 3 Akron at half to a final of 25-14 OU. Thank goodness this **** show has come to an end.
  18. I'm hoping for a more credible less belligerent non-professional wrestler voice to take up the cause!
  19. I'd heard he had 8 hours to finish which would be completed this semester, but I heard it from the my cousin's friend whose sister's boyfriend has a mechanic that fixes the mowers for a guy that cuts John Groce's neighbor's lawn. I suspect your info is a little less attenuated.
  20. The NCAA had better be awfully careful when making a call on the extent of someone's mental health issues, especially no that the kids are actually getting NIL benefits. The mental health stuff opens all kinds of issues from discrimination to ADA with now the overlay of actually impacting a present right to make a living.
  21. The tournament results were certainly disappointing but not all is lost. Here are the Zips early season tournament results since 2018: 2018- Caymans- 1-2 2019- DC Hoops Fest- 1-1 2020- None 2021- Gulf Coast Showcase- 1-2 2022- Caymans- 1-2 2023- Caymans- 1-2 We'd all love to see them win these tournaments but I think the better view, based upon the past, is to look at them as prep for the rest of the season.
  22. They need to put more money into that Infocision sounds system. It not takes a quarter and a half for me to have ringing ears and a headache from the unnecessarily loud music. With the right equipment, they could get that done as I am walking through the gate. I guess Founders Day and high school football games deserve improvements. Here's hoping the money goes to something that actually helps the program as well as the other SUCCESSFUL sports.
  23. Is there a game this week?
  24. Beyond the merits of Ali's case, he announced his transfer on May 4th. 202 and two days have elapsed since then. That's a ridiculous delay. The NCAA is becoming more of a joke every day. All the while they look the other way and accept half assed compromise settlements and self imposed penalties for blatant cheaters like Bill Self.
  25. I suspect it's like any other transfer where he can come in mid-season if eligible. To become eligible as a grad transfer: 1) You must graduate from your current college/university. 2) Have at least one year of eligibility on your five-year clock. 3) You must be going to a graduate school that has your sport. He better have already been approved for UA grad school!
