I wouldn't be surprised to hear the teachers' union start back on its attack of the costs of the football program as it did in 2020. The University did a decent job of explaining the costs of leaving the MAC and/or dropping to FCS then, but I could see the continued floundering of the program opening the door to this critique again.

....and another reason for dread. LOL.

Unless you prioritize other sports like a Gonzaga or Georgetown.

And I don't wholly disagree. I agree the level of talent has improved. My point was more that this level of misery doesn't have one source as its origin (coaching, injuries, bad luck, talent...). This level of incompetence requires failure on many levels.
-
Nope, not kidding. I could find dozens of posts about the improved talent. There are plenty of posts about how the Zips have the talent to win games.

Interesting article here on Trilly Donovan. In any event, I am not concerned as it is a scrimmage and who knows who played or what was being worked on etc. https://theathletic.com/4765841/2023/08/15/trilly-donovan-college-basketball-twitter/

Well.....sure, but it makes us appreciate them more!! 🤮

They've won one game this year and it was a gift from an FCS team. I don't think they have the talent some of you believe them to have. They are losing to average and bad teams in what some believe to be the worst conference in the FBS. Talent could occasionally overcome some of this misery. To be this bad, it can't just be coaching, talent or bad luck, it has to be a fatal combination of talent and coaching issues.

We may have the privilege of watching the two worst teams in FBS football in two weeks.
-
They are getting embarrassed by a very average to below average Mac team. Just awful.

For me, 25% excitement, 75% dread.

We could build an edifice larger than the Great Pyramid of Giza will all of the last straws we've had with Akron football over the decades!

The sun would have to be pretty low and bright to cast a 400 mile shadow! 🙃 -

Well, one, it was a joke and if that really requires an answer, maybe the Patriot League. -

I'm a little surprised that I can get a men's GA season pass for less than this. -
I know it is early but I am eager to get this season rolling! The Zips head off to Brookings, South Dakota to face the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State on November 6th in what is likely to be a tough opener. As you may recall, the Zips opened last season at the JAR against the Jackrabbits, pulling out an 81-80 overtime win. The Jackrabbits were selected by the Summit League’s head coaches, sports information directors and media to win the upcoming 2023-24 regular season title. 6’4” junior guard Zeke Mayo was selected as Summit League Preseason Player of the Year. Last year, Mayo led the team in points (18.2), rebounds (6.2) and assists (3.4). 6’8” redshirt senior forward Luke Appel was also selected to the Preseason All-Summit League First Team. Appel missed a large portion of last year due to injuries. In 2021-22 he was the Summit League Sixth Man of the Year. The team also has some serious size with 8 players 6’7” or taller including Wyoming Transfer Nate Barnhart. Warning to Zips fans- this is not Cedarville!

Thought I would get this thread up because, well, somebody has to do it! The Zips head to Bowling Green Saturday to face the 3-4 Falcons. The Falcons have wins over Georgia Tech, Buffalo and Eastern Illinois and losses to Michigan, OU, Miami and Liberty. Sophomore RB Terion Stewart (5’8” 225 lbs.) leads Falcons rushers at 70.6 ypg. Stewart played at Sandusky High School and was Northwest District Offensive Player of the Year. He ran for 91 yards against the Zips in 2021 but was not enrolled at BG last year missed the entire 2022 season due to academic and mental health issues. He is coming off of a 123 yard performance on 25 carries against Buffalo. Connor Bazelak, a senior QB from Kettering Alter is a transfer who played at Missouri and Indiana. He is completing 59% of his passes and is averaging 189 ypg passing.

Exactly, I don't care whether the kids come from downtown Akron or Timbuktu or whether they are fresh 18 year-old greenhorns or 30 year old portal players, just give me competent players on the field, especially at the most important positions like QB. If indeed our talent level at the other positions has improved as some suggest, an even average MAC level QB should be able to lead the team to wins.
-
I think playing the young kids may actually resulted them being more likely to stay rather than hit the transfer portal in the off season.

22 days to opening day. It can't get here fast enough, especially with the misery that is Zips football. Some things I am looking forward to seeing: 1) the offense often running through Enrique in the high post along with Enrique's improved shooting; 2) how the team uses its depth, especially at guard. I really think Shammah Scott can be a difference maker; 3) the development of Darrion Baker- this kid can be a beast inside which will free up Enrique when they are on the floor together.
-
I'd like to see the kids from the area that end up at other similar schools stick around to play at Akron but: 1) there aren't that many of them, 2) often, kids want to spread their wings and go away, and 3) why would a kid want to commit to a program as bad as the Zips' right now?
-
Good Lord, just a week ago nearly everyone was b!+ch!ng about how bad Irons was and now we're clamoring for him as the guy they could be winning games with. Welcome to Zips football.

Groundhog day. Here we are again kicking the can down the street to next season. Sigh. If Akron football was a business it would be shut down in under a month.

His Nebraska teams at least won 34% of their games.
