Way-Too-Early MAC Predictions: 2023-2024
clarkwgriswold replied to LoyalZIP's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I don't think a guy like Groce ever anticipates a rebuild because they always confidence in their ability to recruit quality players and coach them up. If he leaves to another program it will be because of his success here and I'd prefer that to the type of consistent mediocrity that allows many coaches to overstay their welcome. -

The Crash Davis of the MAC gets another extension. Talk about a school bidding against itself. -
Way-Too-Early MAC Predictions: 2023-2024

Dambrot had something in his past that took him off of the radars of many schools that may have had interest. I suspect Groce's tenure at Illinois may have some impact on his attractiveness to other programs. We've been really lucky to have each of them. -

If likability was a determining factor in retaining coaches 87 year old Gerry Faust would still be the head coach of Zips football. -

I move that the line directly under @Captain Kangaroo's image should now read "Fearless Leader" rather than "Moderator." Can I get a second? -
2022-2023 Zips Women's Basketball

I think it is as individual as the candidates themselves. Tom Arth looked the part, had a nice resume, had been a success at a lower level and had an NFL background and was a disaster. Ianello had a great pedigree and was an abysmal failure. Some guys are great coordinators or assistants, many with many years at top notch programs, but don't have the mix of attributes to make them a great head coach and oftentimes their capacity as a head coach can't be determined until their fanny is in the hot seat. There's no magic formula. -

This is a forum- a place to exchange thoughts, ideas and views. If one is going to lose their enthusiasm because someone disagrees with them they're pretty damn weak minded. -

We'd all feel lost if we had a Zips head coaching hire and there wasn't some premature b!+ch!ng on some level! -
The Thornton kid went from being a JUCO to being Academic All-MAC. That's damn impressive.

2022-2023 Zips Women's Basketball

Columbia's Griffith is an east coaster, born and raised in King of Prussia, PA and she played at Columbia and was an assistant at Princeton. I suspect that it might be difficult to pry her from her alma mater unless there's a substantial pay raise involved. -
GoZips won't load

Mine is loading fine. Now if I could just dump that aggravating Kevin Hart ad that displays over links at the top of the page... -
I think the Zips should require them to grow 4 to 5 inches if they decide to come to Akron.

I'm pleased we're seeing so many post-season discussions. Hopefully, we can keep this up and avoid the off-season forum letdown.

My thought if that the middle aged guy who recruited you can bail and move without restriction (and actually financially benefit) the 20-year kid player should be able to immediately transfer and play. I'm not at all a fan of the transient nature of today's athletes, but I think it's only fair to give the kids the benefit that the coaches have.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt at this point. 16 or 17 year old kid playing a rival in a charged environment. Plus, a year of not being the guy tends to humble one a bit. Also, having seen the type of kids Groce has generally recruited to UA outside of that first season, I'm going to trust he's gotten to know this kid.
