I think that it is pretty evident by reading the list that winning football games puts people in the seats. Look where Miami sits in the list then look at where Central Michigan is at. Remember how many "fans" Miami had during the Roethlisberger seasons? If you can consistantly win, they will come!

GP1. That makes too much sense. It would never happen. You would think someone at the top would bring in a "real" marketing executive from the outside as in from a business not from another university.
-
Let me start the process for the Marketing Dept. First: Target the students. Have special things for them. Special pregame activities, giveaways, anything! 2: Target the alumni. What would persuade an alumini to attend games and/or buy season tickets when the general public can attend for the same prices most of the time. Those are the first two steps. There are enough students and alumni to fill all of our venues. Now get moving on it!

All great points. I guess I should have said that both coaches coached with schools that are now part of the MAC. Anyway, it's too bad that the MAC hasn't grown into a bigger player in major college football. There have been so many great coaches at the current member schools over the years. If only they could've stayed and not gone to the big-name schools. Wishful thinking I guess.

It's funny how both coaches previously coached in the MAC. Remember, Tressel was an assistant here before going to YSU. Now that I think about it, I believe Tressel was here right before we joined the MAC, but still.

Possible Cornerback transfer
blueandgold replied to KentZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
He talks about his size as if he is big, but I would consider him about average in that catagory. His speed is nice though. -
Turns out the Rose Bowl was more interesting after all!

I agree that Biggs was also significant. He was next on my list, but not my top 5. I think that injuries to Kennedy and the other RB's was the problem in that area more than Biggs being so much better. As far as Harvey, I think he will be tremendous, but he is not at that point yet. Give him one more season and he should surpass Hixon as one of the best.

We've all talked about how disappointing our season was this year. There were high hopes since we were bringing back so many starters. I think we overlooked who we were losing though. We lost 3 key starters that turned out to be more significant than we realized. Hixon who we all know was huge both as a receiver and returner, but the other two were Rohr (a tackling machine) and Swiger (a clutch kicker you could count on). These are 3 of the biggest reasons we didn't match or exceed last years performance. Does anyone else agree with me? Mostly I've heard everyone talk about the other 2 keys to our bad season: No discipline and bad tackling. Together these are the top five reasons for the disappointment IMO.

Plus there are many buildings that must be razed before anything else can happen. Then you have to do all the surveying and so on. March 08 is the earliest they could begin construction. -
I know. It ticked me off! There were a couple other schools, but mostly Buchtel.

Also the reverse of what skip-zip said is true. What I mean is there were lots of Akron area high school football players that played at Pitt. I believe most of that occured during the Owens era. He couldn't keep the good players here!

I went to the game last night. I have to say it's been awhile since I've been to a game and I was very disappointed. The atmosphere was horrible. It kind of reminded me of a party hosted by someone who doesn't know how to throw a party! We have a team that is supposed to be one of the best we've had in quite awhile. I remember the games during the late 80's (which is the last time we were good), the JAR was rocking and it was a fun time. Frankly the only reason I came to the game last night was because everything was $1 and I figured that the place would be packed, loud and remind me of the good times of the past. Not even close! Someone needs to wake this administration up!!!

I'm wondering what parking will be like? I didn't notice anything in there about that. In the last concept drawing it looks like the only areas are the new sports facility and the little O Nat parking lot. Hopefully there is a better plan than that. -
Recruit Makes a Rash Decision
blueandgold replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Nice article. It always helps to have someone from the recruits high school already playing. Hopefully Corner will have some pull in getting the McKinley RB here! -
Let's hope we can get all of these players on the field. I hate when I get pumped up about our recruits and then many of them (usually the highest rated ones) don't qualify.
-
Good point Buckzip. Let's keep rolling in the recruits!!
-
All QB's would love to be able to bring their high school Center with them to college. That would be a huge signing for us and would definitley raise Matt Rodgers confidence. Let's hope he is on the phone talking him into coming to the Zips right now! We need all the help we can get on the OL!
-
Has anyone heard if BG will be moving back to the MAC West when Temple joins? I know they moved to the MAC East when both Marshall and Central Florida left the East to balance out the divisions. Obviously Temple must be coming to the MAC East.

I don't think he was offered the job. That kind of thing usually makes it out through the media.
-
Now I like him even less!
-
Let's hope that Brian Kelly gets Freshman All MAC QB Dan LeFevour to transfer to Cincy with him. I don't want to see him for the next 3 seasons. Watching him this year was more than I needed.
-
"does anyone know our kicking situation next year? the only spot where i see us being really in bad shape is ol. i don't think it matters who the qb is if we can't run the ball next year. hopefully jd can get a few quality ol;even if we have to go the jc route for one or two ol." Our best kicker was a freshman this year. I forget his name, but he got hurt before the season even started. He is from Mentor HS. Igor I believe. I'm guessing he was redshirted.

It would be nice to land him. Even at DE he could excel. Remember Jason Taylor was not the proto-typical DE, but look what he did for us and continues to do in both DE and OLB position at Miami.
