I heard something about Gonzaga contacting us about playing them in Seattle next season and then for the following season they would come here to play us at the Q. Anyone else hear anything about this?

Special teams is JD's baby this year and the spring game left me underwhelmed. If they really plan to use the roll out punt, we will be losing field position with every kick. You have a kicker moving right or left, depending on the kicking leg, which interferes with proper set up and contact. It looks more like a qb kick. Instead of 1 deep back, they have three with the kicker rolling and kicking. That is poor fundamentals for a punter. The snap is enough worry for the punters. I could envision a whiff trying to punt this way. The biggest problem I see with the kicking is the inability to block at the line of scrimmage. There was too much penetration during the scrimmage. Coverage last year was also a big problem. I believe and I'm hoping that the "roll out" punting was just used because of the low ceiling in the field house and not an actual plan to use during the season.

I like how it only says "former Pittsburgh transfer". BS!
-
Well put! I think they would have to be out of their mind to go for a QB with the #3 pick.

It will be interesting to see what rocketfootball has to say about this one.

Great article on what the MAC needs to do.
blueandgold replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
You have to remember the fact that there is nothing else to do in many of those areas and the schools don't have much else to offer fans except basketball. -
That would be great! I think that he would move to the top of the list to start if that is the case!
-
I agree. I think he would make a fine addition. I believe he will become a wonderful coach one day.

No one wants to here about tOSU here.
-
And if we run an option offense the QB's will be getting hit a lot during the season. They better be toughened up now and get used to it.
-
We would have to use McDaniel at the FB spot. He's the only one with decent size. In 08 Johnson could be put there (only if we run the wishbone) because I believe he is about 230 lbs and he is a strong inside runner.

The Browns would be making a mistake taking Quinn at #3. Everytime I saw him play against a good team he looked like crap! They have much bigger needs to fill with the #3 pick than a QB anyway. Charlie isn't the next coming of Joe Montana, but at the same time who knows what he can really do. Remember Troy Smith won the Heisman this past season. How did he look in the National Championship game when his O line decided not to block? Reminded me a lot of Charlie running for his life with the Browns! Memo to Browns: Draft Peterson at #3 and draft at least 3 OL in the first 6 rounds of the draft.

I think that we need to figure out who is the best RB for an option attack style offense. I keep reading about that being a major part of the offense this year. Have any of our RB's been in an option offense? If so, I would think they would have a good shot at becoming the starting RB at some point this season.

Oh my god, will you shut the hell up. I have tried to stay out of this because tOSU fans arguing w/ tOSU haters is like fighting over politics. There isn't a damn thing you can say that will make the other side feel any different. With that said, we get it. We understand that tOSU is better than Akron. However we come here to enjoy our team. Here, the Zips could beat the '72 Dolphins. Why? Because we are Akron fans. Is it being realistic? Probably not, but that is not the point. Here we have a place where we can dream of such things happening. We don't need assclowns like you leaving 10 trillion posts about how Jim Tressel's wife can cook better than JD's wife, because her husband coaches at tOSU. Again, we get it. They have more money, exposure, talent, jackass fans. Congrats. If you want to go give tOSU a big sloppy BJ, then take it somewhere else. Here you talk Zips. Respect the zips faithful and their love for the team, city, school. I'm a fan of other schools. I'm a big Texas Longhorns fan. I'm not on here talking about how if Akron were to play them, they would get their asses kicked. No. Akron would win that game. Why? Because i'm a goddamned Zips fan and I believe they could do anything. Thats why. Beautiful!

Swiech is Makes PG Fab Five two years in a row
blueandgold replied to nbs95's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
"Swiech has not fully recovered from a stress fracture in his left foot that occurred late in his junior season. But, playing at about 85 percent, he excelled this winter, averaging 24.6 points, 12.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots per game"I'd say that's pretty darn impressive for only playing at about 85%. I can't wait to see him in a Zips uniform playing at 100%! -
This big event is coming up in about 3 weeks. Lets hope our marketing department can do something and get The University of Akron some big time exposure. There will be many of the top basketball players in the country here. Let's get the University of Akron in the heads of these players and their families! I know KD will be doing his best for the program. I believe there will be many games played at the JAR again this year.

Checked out the store last night. Everything is super cheap both in price and quality. Seems like they have more of every other Ohio MAC school than they have for UofA. I saw lots of jackets/coats for Can't, Ohio U and BG. None for Akron. Even saw several shirts for CSU. I have never seen CSU clothes anywhere. I only saw a few different t-shirts and a sweatshirt with Akron logos. I noticed there were a lot of areas with no clothes. I asked why and was told they are getting a bunch more clothes in this weekend. I don't think they meant Akron stuff, just more clothes in general.

another good player for next year....
blueandgold replied to timmyboy's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
In the Beacon Journal today there is an article about the 20th annual Greater Akron Boys Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game. Andrew Moss scored 19 points in the game. The article also mentions him being a preferred walk-on for us. -
Nice. That's exactly what we need. Too bad we have to wait until the 08 season, but I believe we have a couple others on the team who can do that this season.
-
Preferred walk-ons are really nothing more than role players to fill out your roster. Every now and then you find a diamond in the rough, but not often.

another good player for next year....

I believe Copley went 20-0 this season and lost in the second round of the state playoffs. I never saw him play personally, but if a team goes undefeated throughout the season you gotta be doing something right. -
Exactly!

There are two questions here. Who WILL be the starting RB and who SHOULD be the starting RB.I believe the answer is the same, however I think it will change as the season goes along. The answer is Dennis Kennedy. He will be the starter and should be at the beginning of the season because he did a fine job last season until he got injured and he really fell off. I believe Williams, Allen and even Brinson are better though. One of them will take over the starting spot at some point in the season unless we end up doing the RB by committee crap.
-
True, but we all saw what type of offense we put out on the field for the OU and WMU games. It was pretty darn pathetic.
-
Thankfully most here didn't see him and his outbursts at the Ohio game. He was vocally negative toward the offense, quarterback and team. He was crying to family in the stands about anything and everything. Very sad to see. Family did the same. So what does this mean? He is still part of the team I hope.
