  1. Why do you have to talk that way about other programs? Is it because Akron is the worst team in the worst conference in D1 so it makes you feel better? It's a fact that iCoach is driving away players in maas (he even drove away the "Rudy" award winner) - the fact that they won't see the field is not the issue, the issue is why are all these kids leaving. For every kid that leaves, there is probably at least one other kid that wants to leave but can't since they are on scholarship. The kids that left are thinking they can either stay with a program they hate and possibly see their grades suffer, or transfer to a quality school and still play the game they love. Remember, the main reason for going to college is to learn, not play football. The focus should be on education first, not athletics. So when your attitude about the athletics effect your performance in the classsroom, it is time to move on. For over 99% of these players, this will be the last football they play. Wow...don't get your panties all in a bunch there, killer. The fact is, these kids are transferring to lower divisions. Whatever your feelings about the MAC, if they were so good they could still go to Youngstown State, Delaware, Montana, etc. My guess is either THEY realized, the coaches realized or a combination of their and the coaches realization was this= you are not good enough to play FBS football..even in the MAC!!! Believe it or not, some kids choose a school not because they play D1 football but because of other factors - outrageous I know - but it happens. For you to say these kids aren't good enough to play FBS football just shows your ignorance - but we knew that by reading the first line of your reply. I wish more kids would consider more than just football when deciding where to go. They probably have parents like you telling them - "Hey, Akron is D1 football - you have to go there instead of that other school that you like so much". Some kids just want to play football in college and have a better chance contributing for a longer period of time at a level lower even though they are capable of playing at a higher level. Furthermore, the majority of a teams roster is made up of players that will not see significant playing time - you still need these players to contribute in practice. Seems like the kids aren't buying into what iCoach is trying to sell them. I guarantee you Akron will again not have enough players for a traditional spring scrimmage and we will see another offense vs defense scrimmage. I will be curious to see how many will be on the spring roster. I said that is my GUESS that they came to that realization. I am just looking at what I see. Not speaking in definites here. I'm not about to get in a pissing match with you about this. Kids leave colleges every year for many different reasons. Fair enough. But, as an example, Tate Forcier left Michigan and is going to...Miami (and not the one in the MAC). And, guess what= he looked like an FBS QB last year. So he is probably in the division he belongs. 2 of the players mentioned are going to schools that play, arguably, a much lower level of football than Akron does. Great...if they are more comfortable there...more power to them. Do they get scholarships to play there? Hmm...I am not 100% certain, but I am pretty sure Pioneer schools do not offer scholarships. If this is better for them, their families, etc...great. Sorry, but I am not about to bust on Ianallo and the coaching staff just yet. As someone mentioned in this thread or another, there were many that lambasted Auburn for grabbing Chizik a couple years ago. And, "closer to home", we had Miami (OH) with Haywood at 1-11 go on to win the MAC. He, of course, then went on to do some bad things...but that really doesn't matter does it? Or, maybe it does. Ianello might win 7 games at Auburn just because he can recruit talent there. Doesn't make him a good coach or may be it does. How many quotes can be contained in a single post? It's like a literary Turducken. Whats the record?
  2. With the b.ball team winning the MAC again it it puts a little more pressure on the football side to produce something pretty quickly. Add the soccer champeenship and right now f.ball is getting left in the dust. Hopefully the rising tide does lift all boats.
  3. I don't follow the b.ball team very closely anymore. Haven't been a big Dambrot fan in the past. But, with that said, looking at where that team was a month or so ago I doubt many would have expected them to do what they did last night. Somehow the coach and the team kept the season from getting away from them and gave themselves a chance. WOW!
  4. This isn't far enough to the end of the year, Can't should be the last game of the season. Rivalry games should always be that last game...ALWAYS. This isn't Ohio State vs. Michigan. In case you haven't noticed, we're struggling to draw fans for ANY game. The further you push this game towards the end of the season, the more likely you are to have a poor crowd for a matchup that would otherwise provide our only chance for a significant draw for as long as we remain a non-contending team. So what better than put our rival as the last home game?...that should draw more than usual to a game that no one would have went to. Also, attendance could be solved by removing the idiots in charge over at Athletics and actually winning a few games here and there. Agree, Can't should be the last game. Other homers should be in the evening.
  5. It used to be that in our society, when a person was caught doing something wrong and it impacted those within his organization, the person did the dignified thing and resigned from their position. Today, you hire a lawyer and play the public relations game even when you are wrong. The truth is, Reno probably couldn't buy much with his check or could go out and get a job a Home Depot making about the same amount of money. There is a bid difference between that and the millions Tressel is making. Reno did the dignified thing. Tressel is playing the same scumbag game he has been playing for ten+ years now. There is a huge difference between what Reno did and what Tressel did. Reno didn't carry on a lie to save a football season or worse yet, his own ass like Tressel did. Reno also didn't have a potential National Championship season on the line...it's a bit easier to walk away from Akron's situation. Reno also never owned up to his wrongdoing, resigning instead. I guess it depends on perception...and on a forum full of anti-OSU sentiment, I know I'm not winning there lol. Let me get this straight. You are saying it is OK to lie to the president of tOSU, your direct supervisor (the AD) AND the NCAA if you have a potential national championship season ahead of you? On what planet is this OK? It has nothing to do with tOSU. At any other school, in any other job, these actions would get an employee fired. Only at tOSU could this go on. The SEC has nothing on tOSU. Reno took more risk. He gave up a low paying job for no money. What would Tressel give up?....He already has millions. Resigning from tOSU wouldn't hurt Tressel. To quote or paraphrase: 'If you ain't lyin' you ain't tryin'...
  6. it was on TV and in the papers. It was in connection with a drug invest. on 2 active players.

  8. Whether or not this guy is any good remains to be seen(benefit of the doubt). It is becoming clearer that Ianello is not attracting high quality assistants and that it appears they really do not want to work for him. Not only do the changes show up on the field, they kill recruiting. Kids want to know who their coaches are going to be and whether they are any good. Just makes the rebuilding that much harder.
  9. Last year wasn't a "write off", it was almost a complete disaster of epic proportions if they don't beat Buffalo the last game. The Zips had something like 16 or 17 returning starters. There was no starting from scratch. They should have done better. Agree. But, unfortunately it doesn't matter.
  10. Already brought up earlier in this thread. But it doesn't have to be original. Could NOT resist. But there is a bright side to this. I think, if he can keep his head on straight, he is the starting QB on day 1. After all, what is the alternative? NOW, if this guy succeeds, just think, maybe we beat Ohio State and he throws 6 TD passes, the media will have an absolute field day, as in: LONE RANGER SLAYS OSU WITH SIX SILVER BULLETS And it puts us on the map. That is a good thing. I take it you have actually seen him play on more than one occasion? I am putting all my retirement money on Akron to cover. Thanks dude.
  11. Already brought up earlier in this thread. But it doesn't have to be original.
  12. The Lone Ranger?
  13. BCS schools dont have to take chances on risky kids. Mac schools do. So he could be David Harvey or?
  14. Since it is doubtful that anybody here knows much about recruiting and has likely seen very few if any of these guys play on a regular basis nobody will know for at least 2 years whether these guys are any good. Of course by that time we will know if Ianello can coach. Relax.
  15. Lotsa people today think they know more than they actually do. I suppose if everyone was as smart at this as they think they are they wouldn't be doing what they are doing. Lets see how they PLAY.
  16. They better figure out a way to keep the real paying customers...the season ticket holders. At this level they will always have to do gimmicks to get a decent number of butts in the seats over an EXTENDED period of time. The big money comes from 'sacrifice' games and student fees.
  17. If this guy is that good, seems a little strange that these BCS schools would have backed off completely. Wasn't like he was selling his rings or jackets or whatever...
  18. It does appear the 'new stadium'(lol) effect has worn off rather quickly!
  19. It will never happen but if the OSU's,Alabamas etc get 'penalized' for scheduling cupcakes. They would stop. If the 'wins' against the Akrons,Can't State's etc did not 'count' as far as the BS er BCS is concerned the big boys would have to stop playing them. If you are in a BCS conference lets say you get to play 1 game a year with a non-BCS team. Everything else has to be with BCS schools. More than 1 and you get eliminated from possible BCS bowl appearance. It raises the level of competition among BCS schools. You could play a tougher schedule, maybe lose a game or 2 and still get into the BCS bowl picture. Or assign conferences to play each other on a rotating basis. The Big 10 and Big 12 have to play each other this year, the Big Ten and PAC 12 have to play each other another year.. How do you decide what teams from each conference play each other? They can figure it out. The current system is so screwed up until there is a playoff who knows?
  20. I'd go back to Dennison but the question didn't allow for that. By default jd.
  21. Actually according to legend Dickerson was going to A+M initially. Changed his mind after they bought him the car. A+M recruiter pissed him off apparently. Guess A+M couldn't really ask for the car back could they. SMU (SOUTHERN MILLIONAIRES UNIVERSITY) just gave him more money than A+M. Even th governor of Texas was involved in that mess.
  22. Pryor stopped driving around in cars owned by local car dealers in Cbus? Well at least they didn't buy him a new car like A+M did with Dickerson back whenever?!
  23. Ya,everyone would like Navy/Army on the football side. Why would they come to a crap coference like the MAC for that? They can go to better bowl games on their own.
  24. Umass is not going to 'step down' in basketball to come to the MAC. In 5 years they might be in the MAC championship game in fball.
