Pohl has serious red zone issues because he throws the ball too soft. He has one option in the red zone, and every one knows what it is: the fade. Pohl has not proven that he can run the ball, either. TW has always thrown the ball better. Last year he was plagued by poor decisions, but he has shown definite improvement. It would also be an injustice not to point out the significantly better chemistry between Woodson and the receivers. Pohl seems like a great kid, who worked hard for the Zips, but he wasn't taking the team where it needed to go. Add the 2 concussions and it was time to move on from Pohl.

Their defense is not great. I agree we have to make so e attempt to control tempo but still think it will be a high scoring game. I would think after Jerome's and Davis' big days on Saturday, they will be trying to shut them down but I am not sure they can shut them down. We have to be successful enough passing to open up the run game. This game can be won. Come on Zips, show up and do it. ?

In my opinion, they needed a little humbling, and I agree: No passes. They need to show up on their first down next week.

204 in the first half. I know EMU's offense is much better than their D, but we came out and gave up 14 against Ohio before we adjusted. We can't afford to come out flat against the pass next week.

Agree about Lane - he is really improving. Nice to see Woodson be able to throw less than perfect passes and for Lane and others to make solid plays. Davis made some very nice catches and hat's off to Wolf for taking what could have turned into an interception away from the defender and making it a catch. We should see the Lane mismatch more often as we finish off the MAC schedule. eventually, this will open up opportunities for the other receivers, too. I am very concerned about the defense. They gave up 413 yards from EMU. They seem unable to stop short passes and the rush does seem absent, as of late. Mindless penalties are really unacceptable from upper classmen at this point in the season. Time for the Offense, Defense, and Special Teams to all show up during the same game.

Woodson's play today has been stellar. He throws passes that the other 2 QBs can not make.
-
Yet another undisciplined penalty...negating a 3rd down. I can't believe we are still seeing these. Another touchdown the defense gave up due to selfish penalties.
-
Defense is not adjusting to the EMU pass offense. Flea flicker fooled us.

Savannah State UL EMU UMass Miami Buffalo Can't I think both CMU and BG are winnable, but we have to play awesome to win either game. CMU would obviously, be a more realistic chance at a win. Early in the season TB said that the games in November were the games that determined our post-season opportunities. We have to play great football to get to 7, but it is very do-able.

I think EMU is a dangerous game for us. They are vastly improved and can score. I don't think it is a trap game for us, though, with a 2-3 record. I think the Zips will go out ready to play and win a game that we are supposed to win. I picked us 34-10, but I am aware that if we are not as successful running the ball as we should/need to be, it will be a close game.

You are barking up the right tree. I also see Deandre Scott with 2 interceptions. Zips 34 EMU 10

"Knowing that Bowden had Woodson as the #3 QB on the depth chart at the start because he has not been able to recruit a QB he 'likes' in 4 years should make everyone wonder." Sorry, there is absolutely nothing legitimate in the above statement. Take a look at the major programs struggling to identify their starting QB this year - OSU and Auburn, just to name 2. Call it Kool-Aid drinking if you want, but in reality it is just common sense. Woodson was a good recruit and Chapman was a 4 star recruit. Not too shabby on paper. It's way too early to write off either one. Call them potshots, but I personally don't see anything credible in the original statement. Sounds like a bitte3r tguy who thinks he knows more than he does.

Agreed. A lot of the selfish penalties have come from our transfers. They don't have the same commitment to team as do the guys who ha e slugged through harder times, like Cody Grice, JB1, and others. We won the stat game in every category, except points. It's tough to feel good about a lost, but you can feel better knowing you won the stats game. The endzone will come. The Ohio defense was very good. Even if we loose to BG, it is still very conceivable that we will go 8-4 and win a bowl birth and I think most of us would feel really good about that.

This exactly right. We continue to get hammered by penalties. Great defensive adjustments after the first two TDs. It is easier to make those adjustments when you have rich, experienced talent. The offense is getting better. I thought Woodson continued to show improvement. The accuracy and timing will continue to improve the more reps Tommy has. His decision-making was good, Ohio was just prepared for him. I also wished we had made more of an effort to run the ball to open up the pass a little more, but I am guessing play calling was focused on what they had seen on film from OU and where they thought there were opportunities. I believe Woodson has the ability to be every bit as good as Vick in another year or so. I hope we stick with him. Pohl would nit have done any better as we know there is basically one passing play with Pohl, the fade, because he doesn't throw with enough velocity fir other types of plays. The receiving corps still needs to get better, however. Punting was unimpressive. Kicking was excellent. Kicking in 4th and 9 was a no-brainer. We played a good game against a better team.

No personal attacks, just poi ting out that you arrogantly berate a good coach and you obviously know nothing of football or recruiting.
-
Nice interception to turn the momentum around. Come on offense, let's hit the end zone!
-
Hurt his hand at the end of the first half when he dove for the ball that slipped out of his hand.
-
What utter nonsense. Woodson deserved to be #3 after a lackluster performance last year and showing up fir spring ball 30 lbs overweight. It had little to do with whether TB liked him or not. Tommy's athleticism was never in question, his decision-making was in question. If the last 2 games were any indications, it appears that Tommy has worked hard to be where he needs to be to start as QB.Lee, how many 1A QB's have you recruited? Any idea how hard it is to get Hugh quality QB to come to Akron where the line has been lackluster, the record poor, and fan attendance pitiful? Tommy was a great get from a top notch program in the WPIAL. Chapman was a very good get and may also prove to be valuable as he matures. It is so ridiculous to listen to someone who knows NOTHING about the recruiting process berate a top notch coach.

A win against the bobkittens would put us in the category of winning the games we should win and get the monkey off of the back of this program. I liked that we opened up an early lead against LA and hope that we can do the same this week. We need the lead going into halftime.
-
My biggest concern: the weather. We need to learn how to win in the rain.
-
Depth chart for this week has him at #2 so I think he could play.
-
Woodson us a much improved player. TB pointed out that had he not lost the 30l s, he probably wouldnt have had the performance he did in the LA heat and humidity. He also mentioned that where Tommy needed growth was in the way he responded to situations. Perhaps the attention being diverted to Chapman helped Tommy along in that area. I couldn't be happier for Tommy. I always loved the way he fired the ball. I also think it's way too soon to give up on Chapman. We still need the competition and a viable back up going forward. He seemed to almost panic when in play and he might well grow in that with the spotlight off of him. Both seem like young men growing in their craft and I think it could be exciting to watch them develop. Can you imagine if Tommy's play and continue down this path how good he could be as a senior? I hope this helps us recruit receivers, too.

Agree...watched him against Tennessee and he had no trouble, at all. -

I think having more long ball threats that can flat out run the coverage will also make a difference. You line up both Young and Lane and I think it will take exceptional talent to cover them. Re: ABJ, did George Thomas even go to LA? I always liked Marla's articles better, anyway. I wish she would write about the Zips, again. She seems to be primarily covering the Browns and OSU.
